Absolutely amazing...,

This review is from: Blame It on Me (Audio CD)
I cannot tell you how many times I've listened to this album, and I cannot even begin to tell you how absolutely in love with it I am! A friend of mine taped "murder" and "rest of yesterday" for me on a mix tape...and immediately after listening to that, I ran out and bought the CD. Alana's voice sends chills up my spine every single time I put on the CD (which I haven't been able to listen to because I lent it to a friend--Hint! Never lend this album to your friends! You don't know when or if you'll ever get it back!). "Blame it on Me", "Love and Pride", "Lullaby" and "One Day" are absolutely beautiful songs. My favourite songs from this album change every single time I listen to it. Every time I hear it, I find something new that I love about it. I think, by far, I'm most impressed that Alana wrote pretty much everything herself--lyrics and music. I always like to hear that the artists I like write their own music. I've been trying to find guitar chords for Alana's songs for AGES and I can't find any anywhere. Please do yourself a favour and get this album--it'll be one of the best albums you've ever listened to, from beginning to end. That sort of album is hard to come across these days. Lisa

"MURDER" IS A GEM!,
This review is from: Blame It on Me (Audio CD)
Alana Davis quietly leaped onto the scence in 1997 with a polished,radio-ready version of Ani DiFranco's "32 Flavors".If it wasn't for Alana's husky, worthy voice, the cute curly haired twenty-something guitarist/singer would be just another casulty of Lilith Fair-inspired dreck BUT Alana's more textured rendition was full of ambition and yearning made it work. Think of her as a younger, funkier, more up-to-date Joni Mitchell if you will(altough Ms. Davis' work doesn't come an inch to Mitchell's long list of classics, but work with me!). "Blame It On Me" isn't half-bad. But the real gem on this disc is "Murder". Alana Davis has the talent to go the extra mile and in 2001,

Refreshing lyrics with funky beats, make Davis's CD a hit!,

I was genuinely surprised with how much I enjoyed Alana Davis's CD. She has a strong, passionate voice and the lyrics to back it up. Although, I am a HUGE Ani DiFranco fan, I prefer Davis's version of 32-Flavors. That song deserves the funky beat she gave it! After I finished listening to 32-Flavors, 32 times....I got to listen to the entire CD. I have found many other songs that I enjoy as much as, or better than 32-Flavers; such as, "Lullaby," "Blame it on Me," and, my favorite, "Free." All great songs with funky, but soothing beats, and expressive, thoughful lyrics. It is refreshing to hear genuine talent in the recent wave of female musicians.
