Absolutely amazing...,

This review is from: Blame It on Me (Audio CD)
I cannot tell you how many times I've listened to this album, and I cannot even begin to tell you how absolutely in love with it I am! A friend of mine taped "murder" and "rest of yesterday" for me on a mix tape...and immediately after listening to that, I ran out and bought the CD. Alana's voice sends chills up my spine every single time I put on the CD (which I haven't been able to listen to because I lent it to a friend--Hint! Never lend this album to your friends! You don't know when or if you'll ever get it back!). "Blame it on Me", "Love and Pride", "Lullaby" and "One Day" are absolutely beautiful songs. My favourite songs from this album change every single time I listen to it. Every time I hear it, I find something new that I love about it. I think, by far, I'm most impressed that Alana wrote pretty much everything herself--lyrics and music. I always like to hear that the artists I like write their own music. I've been trying to find guitar chords for Alana's songs for AGES and I can't find any anywhere. Please do yourself a favour and get this album--it'll be one of the best albums you've ever listened to, from beginning to end. That sort of album is hard to come across these days. Lisa

"MURDER" IS A GEM!,
This review is from: Blame It on Me (Audio CD)
Alana Davis quietly leaped onto the scence in 1997 with a polished,radio-ready version of Ani DiFranco's "32 Flavors".If it wasn't for Alana's husky, worthy voice, the cute curly haired twenty-something guitarist/singer would be just another casulty of Lilith Fair-inspired dreck BUT Alana's more textured rendition was full of ambition and yearning made it work. Think of her as a younger, funkier, more up-to-date Joni Mitchell if you will(altough Ms. Davis' work doesn't come an inch to Mitchell's long list of classics, but work with me!). "Blame It On Me" isn't half-bad. But the real gem on this disc is "Murder". Alana Davis has the talent to go the extra mile and in 2001,

Refreshing lyrics with funky beats, make Davis's CD a hit!,

I was genuinely surprised with how much I enjoyed Alana Davis's CD. She has a strong, passionate voice and the lyrics to back it up. Although, I am a HUGE Ani DiFranco fan, I prefer Davis's version of 32-Flavors. That song deserves the funky beat she gave it! After I finished listening to 32-Flavors, 32 times....I got to listen to the entire CD. I have found many other songs that I enjoy as much as, or better than 32-Flavers; such as, "Lullaby," "Blame it on Me," and, my favorite, "Free." All great songs with funky, but soothing beats, and expressive, thoughful lyrics. It is refreshing to hear genuine talent in the recent wave of female musicians.

The combination of Davis' smokey, mature voice, her modern lyrics sung in a classic groove, and her elemental rythms (easy funk/folk/R&B)makes her very hard to pidgeon hole. She manages to be fresh and familiar at the same time. Oddly, however, by blending modern themes with established rythms and arrangements, she becomes very current. Admittedly, this album is not for everyone--she's no angry female rocker--but I personally can't wait for the next one.

I first purchased this cd back in 1998 and in the beginning I do not think that I fully appreciated this cd upon first listen. Last year, I started to listen to this cd and I was overwhelmed with so many feelings. I really really enjoy this cd immensely. Alana has the most amazing voice plus she writes her own music and plays her own instrument! That is such a rarity! =) BLAME IT ON ME is one of those rare cd's where each song is great and does not have to be skipped. I can keep this cd on and let is just play from beginning to end. Her songs are not the most prolific or philosophical but that is why this cd is so special. You really do not have to THINK too hard to try and figure out where she is going with the song. 32 Flavors and Lullaby are stand out tracks. The entire cd is great so PLEASE rush out and get it! If you enjoy Alana as much as I do, please check out DIDO's NO ANGEL, AMEL LARRIEUX's INFINTE POSSIBILITES, SARAH MCLACHLAN's THE FREEDOM SESSIONS, OLIVE's EXTRA VIRGIN and EVERYTHING BUT THE GIRL's cd entitled WALKING WOUNDED. I promise you won't be disappointed with these cd's!

Alana Davis' "Blame it on Me" is a very decent CD! A CD with depth and range. She just has so much talent. I first saw her on a PBS special about three years ago. I was immediately impressed by her style, her voice and ease. I then saw her again on I believe Conan O'Brien. Was someone trying to tell me something? Finally while driving to Manhatten with a friend who listens mostly to R&B and jazz, he pulls her cd out and puts it in the car cd player. Needless to say I was surprised. It then took me 2 more years to buy it (dummy I am). This is what procrastination gets you. I can listen to it again and again with out tiring. The songs have passion and soul. "32 Flavors" is so uplifting. I also really enjoy "Rest of Yesterday" The Cd is uplifting and encouraging. I have a favorite song every time I play the CD. Where is the second alblum! Alanus is awesome.

about this CD. I'm the type of person that picks a CD and listens to it constantly for 2-3 months. I've been listening to this CD constantly for the last 2 1/2 years...not tired of it yet! Can't wait for the 2nd album. Don't hesitate to buy this one...you'll never regret it. (Even see this CD in a used CD shop? No one gives it up for resale...says a lot about the quality of the artist)

I love *every* single song on this CD... It's constantly in my CD player. I've had it for 2 years but I still play it constantly. When I first heard "32 Flavors" I had to buy the CD...I was a little afraid I wouldn't like the other songs on the CD (since I own *so* many that I just like one song on it) but this CD is unique... it's just gosh darn fabulous! I can't wait for the 2nd CD!

Every track on this cd communicates emotion and feeling. Alana's voice is sensual and luscious. I absolutely emerse myself in this cd every time I hear it. In the two years since I bought it, I've never grown tired of it and nothing I've bought since competes with it. I can't wait for album #2. Alana, don't keep me waiting!!!!!

I find the radio airwaves saturated with pop girly singers who have great voices but that is where the talent ends. Alana stands out. Her voice is raw and powerful yet smooth as hot fudge sliding down an ice cream cone. Her songs are emotional and throughly entertaining. I just wish she would get more radio air play...Ohh the humanity!!
