Beautiful and inspiring,
This review is from: Blame It on Vanity (Hardcover)
Blame it on Vanity is a very beautifully written autobiography which is filled with so much
enlightenment. In the book you will feel a sense of knowledge and guidance through each chapter. It is God teaching through Denise having her share her experience with everyone. If you have been inspired or influenced by Denise such as myself and many others. You really should take a look at this book. Denise writes about hollywood and how to stay away from the devils playground. You can clearly see that Jesus is her inspiration with the beautiful graphics and scripture from the bible there is no other words to describe this work than divine. With Denise going through good times and her bad times she still remembers to call on Jesus. In her times of going through many surgeries and nearly dying 18 years ago. Denise doesn't blame it on hollywood, the devil or any one else. Denise says (Blame It On Vanity). This Novel has inspired me to give my entire life to Jesus and repent and I know it will inspire all who read it. Thank you Jesus and Denise for this wonderful gift of knowledge, wisdom and sincere. Sincerely: Angel Jardine

Beautiful Woman, Inside & Out,
This review is from: Blame It on Vanity (Hardcover)
I'll start off this review by saying Denise Matthews is the epitome of beauty in my opinion. And I don't just mean her flesh, I mean her heart. You can tell by the way she writes in her book and in the way she speaks in interviews. It saddens me when I hear people saying she hasn't aged well or that she's crazy. I always wonder if they are seeing the same Denise Matthews as I.
Anyway, "Blame it on Vanity" is a good insight into Denise Matthews' past life as 'Vanity' and present life as her true self. The description of her family's past and her childhood will help readers understand where Matthews was coming from and what led her to her tumultuous stint in Hollywood. I think readers will find this to be the most captivating part of the memoir. Unfortunately, the part people were most interested in, her actual experiences in Hollywood, isn't as detailed. In a way, this is good. Some things aren't meant to be shared. But I do feel like more could have been revealed. I'm not saying all the intimate details with Prince or any of her other relationships. I'm saying more information could have been given about what was going on in her mind. However, I still think people will be fairly satisfied with the outcome. Of course, the book is concluded with sharing her knowledge of Jesus. A nonbeliever may feel uncomfortable with this but it definitely shouldn't turn anyone away, unless you are very close-minded about others' beliefs. As much as I enjoyed the book, it fell short in numerous ways. First off, the text throughout the whole book is in cursive. Even the most experienced reader will have problems with this. For future readers, be warned. In my opinion, it should have been written in a simpler font with only certain pages in cursive. Secondly, there seems to have been minimal editing in the revising process. There are many run on sentences, many errors in punctuation, and a lot of spelling mistakes. The punctuation and spelling didn't bother me as much as the sentence structure. A lot of it could have been poetic, but the mistakes were too obvious for it to pass as poetry. Also, although I like flowery language, sometimes it was a bit too flowery. Sometimes I didn't even understand what was being said. I think, with some of the description toned down, the images Matthews was trying to portray could have been much stronger. I enjoyed the fact that she tried to illustrate her experiences, I just wish she would have done a better job. The artwork, I'm sorry to say, was not very good. I was expecting some fantastic art. Instead I got lackluster photoshop work. The photos used from her past and present were beautiful, but the art surrounding them and the text used was not. I also would have liked to see better descriptions of when and where some of the photographs were taken. For people looking to read this book for scandalous descriptions of lovers and drug use, this is not for you. For people who want to be graced with the joy and love of Denise Matthews, you will enjoy the book, despite its flaws. I hope in the future she will be able to fix these to ensure a better reading experience. She definitely has a lot to tell. I think many people can learn from her if the book is done right. It was between a 3 1/2 and a 4 for me. You can feel the joy and love in every word she writes. Forgive me for the long review! :)

THE STORY OF A WALKING MIRACLE!!!!!,
This review is from: Blame It on Vanity (Hardcover)
I have to first start of by saying this is one of the most beautiful books I have ever seen. Physically it is a work of art. Its a hard back, coffee table type book that is full of colors and pictures and drawings. There are no plain pages in this book. The paper itself is black and the writing (type) is all different colors; red, yellow, pink, blue, green, etc. There are lots of pictures in the book from Ms. Matthews as a young child all the way through womanhood. She was just as beautiful as a child as she was when we knew her as "Vanity".
The book takes you on the journey of her entire life. She opens up about her childhood and upbringing and her time as Vanity and her life after Vanity with the Lord Jesus. I have to say her writing is profound. There's no fluff in it. The book will take you through so many emotions. There were times were i cried, and times when I laughed and times when I had to stop and ask the Lord for forgivness for things I've done in my life. The Lord surely used Denise in writing this book. There are even poems in the book that she wrote which are so theraputic. I would rate this book a 10 out of 10. Definitely one of the best books I've read. I have to say that for those who doubt the power of God or who don't believe in miracles, this is a must read for you! For those who wonder if God is real or who may have fallen away from the faith and need to repent, this is a must read for you! In case anyone is wondering, the book can be purchased from her website: [...] I dont think its sold in stores (yet) but I'm hoping it will be because it is powerful. Be blessed!

So Candid,

This review is from: Blame It on Vanity (Hardcover)
WoW! This book is truly an inspiration. It is a sure rags to riches testimony. I enjoyed from beginning to end! Candidly we go through Denise's triumphs and tribulations. I can relate to her story on so many levels!! It is still hard for me to digest how Denise didn't accept or understand her beauty inside and out. Such a beautiful soul and angel for us as far as I'm concerned! This has been my resource during difficult times with my mother, just seeing that someone else's situation can always be worse kept me grounded! I appreciate her honesty and am so thrilled to have had the experience of reading

Well Done!!,
This review is from: Blame It on Vanity (Hardcover)
I really enjoyed reading 'Blame On Vanity'. The book was well written, artistically created and I enjoyed all the pictures and artwork that she shared. The history of her family tree was compelling. I can't believe what she had to live thru as a child...abuse, abandonment and neglect. I grew up listening to Prince and Vanity 6. I remember thinking how beautiful and lucky she is not knowing the turmoil she was masking. Thank you for sharing so much of yourself and praise God for all that you have overcome. May God continue to bless you and all that you do.
