Love this sink!,
This review is from: Blanco 511-652 Diamond Super Single Bowl Kitchen Sink, Anthracite Finish (Tools & Home Improvement)
After a miserable experience with Americast sinks, I was careful to do my homework before selecting a replacement. The Blanco brand overall has received a lot of good feedback from people on review/chat boards, and the Silgranit in particular has been well received.I'll add my voice to the Silgranit supporters - this is one fantastic sink! The color is wonderful - looks great and so easy to keep clean. I've been using the Blanco cleaner and it works well, but they say in their documentation that you can use any nonabrasive cleaner with good results, and use Bar Keepers Friend for stubborn stains. Very easy to install. The sink weighs about 45 pounds, so it's not a chore to lift into place. I mounted it as a drop in, but you can also mount it as an undermount. Really like that the rim is flat so when mounted as a drop in you can use the back rim to hold items (like a brush/scrubber holder) without it falling off. It comes with 10 clips should you want to do an undermount so there's nothing additional that needs to be purchased. It comes with one center hole drilled, but you can easily add more. There are a total of six additional hole punchouts - the back is scored so you can punch out the hole using a hammer. Blanco provides detailed directions on how to do so, even specifying the type and size of the hammer you should use. One hole was fine for my install, but this is a great feature for those who need something other than the standard hole layout - you can get a custom layout without paying an extra dime (or having to wait weeks for a special order). The sink is very well packed at the factory with foam all over. Survived the UPS truck without a scratch. Blanco customer service is responsive. I emailed them with a question concerning the use of plumbers putty and they got back to me within an hour. They do not recommend using plumbers putty since the oils in it can leach into the granite and stain. You probably wouldn't notice it on the anthracite color but, to be on the safe side, I used marble-safe putty. That can be hard to find since the big box hardware stores typically don't carry it, but you can usually find it at a plumbing supply house. Other options are clear silicon (which is what Blanco recommends) that you can find anywhere. Silicon can work great but it's a real bear to get rid of should you want to change out a faucet or drainpipe down the road. If you can find it, marble safe putty is the better option. I was a bit worried that I would miss having two basins, but one big basin is so much more useful. You can soak cookie sheets, large pans, etc. with ease. Great to have all that room!

I'll never regret buying this big, deep, black beauty. I can get the grungies almost all the way into it-- filled with hot soapy water for cleaning. You know, the awful greasy filter over the stove and those nasties from under the refrigerator. They start to smell after awhile, but now I can clean them easily in this big deep and wide baby!! And being black, it never shows dirt or stains! So long to all the scratches and marks on my old stainless steel sinks.

Unmatched finish and quality,

This sink is everything you expect. It's gigantic, almost 10" deep, and except for being slightly wider than a standard 33" opening the installation was simple. I replaced an existing sink and had no issues, the whole process took only a few hours (remember, I am NOT a plumber and had never done this before). Having previously purchased a black Thermocast sink from Home Depot I was hesitant to get another in a similar color. However, where the HD sink was easily stained, scratched, and constructed of [basically] fiberglass, this Blanco sink feels exactly like granite. The "Anthracite" color is a little towards the gray end of the color palette, but I have it next to a deep black double oven so that may be misleading. I believe anyone looking for a black sink would be more than satisfied with this sink.I have had the sink in for a month now and I cannot stress how resistant it is to staining and scratching. My house has hard water so I do use the Blanco Cleaner about once a week and it has kept the finish looking brand new. I also purchased a Blanco drain at the same time, talk about a perfect match! The flange fit perfectly into the indent in the sink, they were clearly made for each other (and did NOT require plumber's putty... with no leaks!).

I love this sink. For years I've used double sinks and hated not being able to clean really big things without getting water all over the floor and me. Every day I say "thank you" for this great big beauty.I was a little concerned at first to get a black sink because we have very hard water which turns everything white. But no need to worry. This sink is the easiest to clean I've ever had, never shows scuff marks, and the hard water doesn't seem to affect it. It's an all "pro" sink with no "cons."

Got this as part of a total kitchen remodel 6 months ago and it is still one of our favorite parts of the kitchen! Huge, big enough to easily soak cookie sheets and broiler pans; and very easy to keep clean.

First time ever with a single bowl sink and I wouldn't trade it for anything. The color is not a glossy, plastic black, but a rich, solid, easy to clean black. Installation was a challenge but not because of the sink, we had to deal with old ceramic tile. Everything came together with a lovely Delta Savile faucet also purchased through Amazon. The sink has been in use for about a week and I have NO negative comments to make. Read all the reviews to learn about the cleaning (shouldn't use the Blanco cleaner on an Anthracite Black finish). Didn't buy the basket strainer from Amazon, got one from Home Depot for $60. ouch! But it fits perfect and is of great quality. I find myself walking to the sink just to admire it!

This is beyound my biggest wishes. The sink is roomy enough for my big cookie trays or even my 2 year old grandson. I can't wait to get into full baking mode with this sink as the clean up will be a snap. The sink was a tight fit but the contractor made it fit and it looks great.Blanco 511-652 Diamond Super Single Bowl Kitchen Sink, Anthracite Finish

We bought this as part of a total kitchen remodel. Our first one arrived damaged - the corner was cracked, obviously due to mishandeling by UPS (the box was crushed in the same location). When we couldn't get UPS to pick it up for return after trying for several month, the seller just sent us another one at no charge. It sure was nerve-wracking to punch the extra holes into the sink to accomidate the side spray and the insta-hot faucet, but in the end it worked out just fine. The sink is very heavy, so installation was tough and took us 3-4 hours total, and lots of yelling. But we are very happy with our sink. We've had it for 2 years now and had no problems. No stains since it's black. It doesn't scratch. We will occasionally get a little hard water deposit, but that cleans up with barkeepers friend and a scotchbrite pad (and other reviews recommend Lime-Away for really bad deposits). It's so big our baby bathtub fits all the way down in it. It's nicely designed with a good slope so that all the water runs out and it dries completely overnight. We have it mounted drop-in over mountain green granite tiles (the 24x24 countertop system from The Tile Shop - cost $1000 instead of $7000 for slab and looks almost the same) and the anthracite color looks great with it. The sink color and finish is matte, and looks basically the same as the grates on the top of our stove. We are extremely happy with the sink, and love how we don't get stains or scratches, like all our previous white and stainless sinks. As a side note, for the sink that got broken, the crack spred down the corner halfway to the bottom. We filled and sealed the crack with epoxy, and mounted it drop-in on a $39 butcherblock countertop from Ikea, in a $25 kitchen cabinet frame, also from Ikea, and put it in our basement to use as a dog bathing sink/utility sink. The crack doesn't leak. It's visible, but doesn't look real bad (the dogs don't mind). We have cocker spaniels with long hair, who need bathing once a week, and the size is great for them; the sink is nice and deep so water doesn't go everywhere, and it's big enough that it can accomidate both a dog and the dog "bathing system" (a utility pump with a hose). The matte finish insures that the dogs don't slip in their "tub" and it's hard enough that their toenails don't scratch it; except for the repaired crack in the corner the sink looks brand new after 2 years of hard abuse. The sink also works great for other mundane utility sink uses like washing paint brushes (water-based paint hasn't stained the sink). Frankly, we're really happy that the first sink broke, and it's so great that we would easily pay the money for this as a utility sink. |
