4.0 out of 5 stars Very nice, but it's partly plastic.
I did a minor kitchen remodel (new sink, countertops & backsplash) and ordered this basket strainer since my new sink was Blanco and I wanted it to match really well. It looks great and I'm happy with it so far (it's been almost two months since installation), but I just wanted to point out that only the visible part of the strainer is metal, the rest of the body is...

This Basket Strainer looks like Chrome not Stainless Steel. So if you are trying to match a brushed nickel or stainless steel look, this may be way too bright.

This review is from: Blanco BBS-SS-B 3-1/2-Inch Basket Strainer, Stainless Steel Finish (Tools & Home Improvement)
This Basket Strainer looks like Chrome not Stainless Steel. So if you are trying to match a brushed nickel or stainless steel look, this may be way too bright.

Lessons learned: The sewer line opening at the wall seems to be a problem many times when you add granite and new deeper sinks. Deeper sinks and lower disposal drain holes can lower the overall height of the pipes and make the pipes lower than the drain opening at the wall. Water would have to drain uphill.

That problem was resolved. I got the Blanco sink that is 1 inch less deep than the new deep sinks and a disposal that has a 1 inch higher drain opening. That gave me 2 more inches of height to the pipes under the sink matching up to the pipe in the wall.

I got a Kitchenaid disposal because it has the highest drain opening (FYI Kitchenaid has the worst customer service I ever experienced). The KitchenAid disposal with the highest opening is the cheapest one (around $100), but it has a very good rating.

I made sure the Blanco(very good customer service) sink was 8.5 inches verses 9.5 inches on the disposal side which gave me one more inch. So I don't have to redo the sewer line at a major expensive.

But the Kitchenaid disposal has a stainless steel like flange and the Delta (best! customer service) faucet I got was brushed nickel so I didn't want a third look of bright shiny chrome. I looked all over for a basket strainer that would match. The biggest problem is that all strainers were too small. Yes, they do vary! Don't get me wrong; they fit in the opening but can leave a gap around the edge in a blanco sink. I thought, "Great, now I have to get a tooth pick and clean it out occasionally. Nice place for germs to harbor!" This blanco strainer oddly doesn't fit the blanco sink opening either. Same gap problem, although it was less than others I tested. After buying 5 strainers and testing them I finally got smart and brought a ruler to HD and Lowes. Finally I found it (a Kohler stainer) at HD. The perfect fit and perfect look, but expensive. $49 at HD, which was cheaper than the internet --$88 to $110 for the same thing. Fortunately I had a $10 off coupon from Lowes and asked HD if they would honor it. HD said they honor all competitors coupons, so I got it for $39. The Kohler might be considered overkill. It is the heaviest, most solid strainer you will ever touch in your lifetime. The only problem with the Kohler is the logo on top; wish the name was bigger. Say as big as the "China" imprint on the underside :-). All is good. I installed it yesterday. Warning don't use plumbers putty of Blanco sinks; use silicone. Read the plumbers putty container or call Blanco. Added May 28th: Plumbing, sink, countertop all in and working great. THEN I had a leak in the wall (nothing to do with the remodel). The copper waste arm which takes the drain water to the drain pipe in the wall corroded after 30 years. Because of the water damage the plumbing, a cabinet and floor came out for repair.

Floors are being replaced with porcelain, no more wood. I have a great insurance company! So here is a warning: If you have an old house and the kitchen is ripped up, check your WASTE ARM ; It cost very little to replace when the kitchen is gutted and thousands if you have it leak after you are done.

Good Luck

PS. Amazon, thanks for your GREAT, easy return policy!!!!

It's not clear from the picture, but this is an entire sink unit with a strainer that does not fit the standard

Blanco sink. You have to remove the collar and the attached plumbing to install it, not what I had in mind.

Very nice piece of hardware and well worth getting with the Blanco sinks. My old Blanco was installed with a generic strainer that was not satisfactory at all and the ones available at local hardware stores didn't look to be any better so I ordered this one and am thrilled with it.

We actually had three strainers of different brands on hand, and for whatever reason this is the only one that would seal with no leaks. The strainer is very shallow though, which is the only complaint I would have.
