About the Author
Jose Blanco, born in Santa Clara, Cuba, moved to Miami, Florida at the age of 6. By his adolescence, Blanco was living in the northeast; he eventually settled in the Bronx section of New York City. During this time, Blanco learned "Street Spanish", the slang-Spanish dialect used by over 80% of Spanish-speaking people in the United States. Blanco, graduate of LaSalle Military Academy in Oakdale, New York, began translating for the private sector in 1978; in every position Blanco has held, he has been the lead consultant in Latino affairs and Spanish-to-English translations. In 1994, Blanco relocated to North Carolina where he became a police officer. Since that time, Blanco created a business dedicated to educating law enforcement officers in the use of Street Spanish. His business, Blanco Consulting, has since expanded to offer programs for Telecommunicators and EMS/Fire Rescue personnel in addition to translating for DEA, the IRS, ATF, the U.S. State Department, the U.S. Secret Service, NCSHP, and over 50 police departments state-wide. Officer Blanco is considered a Latino Affairs expert and is a respected member of the Governor's Commission for Hispanic/Latino Affairs in North Carolina. Among his other accreditations, Blanco's testimony has been upheld by the Federal Courts.
