5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible (& a tip for downloading), April 6, 2009

First the tip: for better or worse, it may be easiest to download this track if you already have the Amazon MP3 downloader installed on your system.

As far as the track itself is concerned: transcendent. One of the greatest living rock guitarist providing the harmonic landscape for Immi's sublime vocals -- smooth, laid back and introspective. The live performance makes room for Beck's innovative solos, and the theater's acoustics provide a nice echo effect for Immi's voice.

A real treasure. I came online looking for this track and found it free. In gratitude, i am going to buy the few remaining Heap tracks i didn't already own.

Wow! Imogen's voice and Jeff's guitar. Great combination. I instantly loved this song. Obviously a live recording and I grabbed it on the freebie list. A steal! I've loved Jeff Beck since Freeway Jam came out and am glad to hear him still creating good music.

The mood on this piece is sultry with Imogen's vocals leading the way and Beck's guitar pops up for a few nice riffs.

5.0 out of 5 stars nice, very nice, April 25, 2009

The vocals are sweet and Beck's guitar is restrained. Quite nice, he doesn't take front and center but fills in where needed which makes it even more special. His technique is awesome, you can hear it as he plays. Being able to fill in the notes like that on the fly, a true virtuoso.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't believe it's still free... it's spine-tingling, gorgeous, dreamy, September 6, 2010
This review is from: Blanket (MP3 Download)
I downloaded 'Blanket' months ago and was astonished to see it's still a Free download. Must confess it's time for me to check out the rest of the album ~ based on the taste that is this song alone, it's bound to be worth the price. Jeff Beck is one of those humans I thought would implode decades ago ~ the guitar-smashing perfectionism created a lasting impression which was (thankfully) incorrect. He did brilliant work with the Yardbirds and he's brilliant today. He's the sort of human who could coax a phenomenal hook from a spider's web or an old clothesline.

Not to offend Rod Stewart or those who have loved him these many decades, but I still consider Stewart's standout work to be on the album "Beck-ola". Many will no doubt be mortally offended by this statement and I do apologize to preferring Edgy to Middle Of the Road. In defense of Edgy, five bucks will still get you into a club where cutting edge music can be heard. In defense of MOR, two hundred bucks will get you decent seats in a posh venue in Vegas.

Imogen Heap blazes with Beck like they were co-created in the same lab by a Wonderfully Mad Scientist with a time machine, a sense of humor and an excellent ear for Edgy.

Can we have an entire CD of this please? It is truly transcendent, one of my most favorite songs. It's dreamy and aware at the same time. Truly a masterpiece. Love Jeff Beck! Never heard Imogen Heap before and together they are magical.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Guitarist EVER, March 23, 2010
By

Jeff Beck's command over the electric guitar has no rivals. He is the master of so many styles - no one comes close. Just check out the way he adds the harmonic chord voicings towards the end of Blanket. In the middle of a tune, he'll totally switch his approach to a song and come out of left field with some amazing fresh idea. I saw him live, and it was jaw droppping - even my girlfriend who usually thinks electric guitar "sounds like noise" was loving it.

This song is also a great mellow tune with nice singing and lyrics.

The DVD this tune is extracted from is a must buy - if just to watch Beck sweep the floor with hapless Eric Clapton.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Duo--can't get better than this, April 25, 2009

This review is from: Blanket (MP3 Download)
When I saw the video, I watched it over and over again. Jeff IS the best living guitarist (and now a new member of the R&R hall of fame--well deserved I might add). Of course, Jeff's band is great too. But the real highlight here is Imogen's voice--sultry and soulful. Imogen's voice is just FANTASTIC!!! Jeff always plays off the singer and for that reason, I'm surprised he doesn't play with singers more often. This is his best duo since Rod Stewart. I've never writen a review before, but I was so moved by this song that it seemed like the thing to do.

What a stunning piece of music! I bumped this up to the top of my play list. Musicianship like this is what most aspire to, Beck just keeps raising the bar.
