5.0 out of 5 stars A Sick Hint of More Perfected Sickness To Come!!!
The first offering from what would turn out to be the most demented and technical Death Metal band to fry your hearing. Lord Worm is awesome on this. Flo is the man with 20 arms and 40 legs as usual. Every track on this is a journey into Cryptopsy's own world of musical mayhem. What I love most about this is the fact that you can almost feel that the next release after...

3.0 out of 5 stars 7/10 very undeveloped
This is more early Cannibal Corpse styled Death Metal although it's still more technical. Skills haven't yet developed here yet. Flo's drumming is nowhere near his abilities today, although he still beats the holy crappers out of almost every other drummer ever, which is saying something for his skills now! Eric is already awesome here and gives maybe his best performance...

The first offering from what would turn out to be the most demented and technical Death Metal band to fry your hearing. Lord Worm is awesome on this. Flo is the man with 20 arms and 40 legs as usual. Every track on this is a journey into Cryptopsy's own world of musical mayhem. What I love most about this is the fact that you can almost feel that the next release after this one was going to be something from another world. And of course, None So Vile, possibly the best technical Death Metal release ever, came next and destroyed everyone in its path. If you're new to Cryptopsy why not start here at the beginning of one of the greatest bands ever. Play this all the way through, then slap on None So Vile right after it; it's amazing to hear it like that. Fans of ANY Death Metal: DO NOT MISS OUT ON THIS BAND!!!
Necrosoul.

5.0 out of 5 stars Greatness, November 20, 2005
This review is from: Blasphemy Made Flesh (Audio CD)
Despite the bad production, this is a classic, and Cryptopsy's best imo. Personally I don't listen to the production; I listen to the music. This is Lord Worm's best performance in my opinion. Unlike on None So Vile, the sounds he makes are varied and interesting. Several songs have their own special vocal noises which are not repeated in other songs. I've never heard a more interesting, truly demonic sounding vocalist except perhaps Matti Way formerly of Disgorge. But Lord Worm is Lord of all Death Metal Vocals!

This is still as brutal as all hell, bad production or not. Lord Worm's lyrics are hilarious and scary at the same time. If you consider yourself a fan of this band, you must own this.

5.0 out of 5 stars So... so good !, October 5, 2005

Man oh man...Cryptopsy is without a doubt in my mind? One of the best technical deathmetal bands of all times and i truly love and always will support them. Cryptopsy's debut "blasphemy made flesh" will make you proud that you support the original and true deathmetal not posers like mortician, cannibal crap, six dumb asses under all that nonsense...

"She's the kind of girl you want to run up and tackle through a window some floors up and spatter you both to hell"

Some standout lyrics of the genre. I like how they aren't to be taken seriously. It's just a bit of necro-erotic fun, but in the back of your mind you start to think "what if he's not joking?".

The music on this disc is the most mosh friendly they have put out. And the bass guitar is most prominent than ever before. Being a bassist myself, it is beyond admiration. The other instruments have their moments as well. It's high velocity music that is still able to keep a bleak atmosphere and that is what's most important.

A nice groove is consistent throughout the entire album. The result is a very fun death metal record to bang to.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blasphemy Made Cryptopsy a Killer Band, April 12, 2002
By

What is it about Canada? Is it the beauty and coldness that makes superb Underground Metal bands Slaughter, Kataklysm, Strapping Young Lad, and the great Cryptopsy so bone-chilling, apocalyptic, and ninhilistic? The later band I mentioned is one of the leading bands in Extreme Metal these days. "Blasphemy Made Flesh" is Cryptopsy's debut album and it did not fail in making me thrash, and play air drums. There are a few things that stands out; One being the sound production....dirty, sludgy, and raw. Very much like "Seven Churches"-era of Possessed. How can you go wrong there? Secondly Lord Worm's vocals are much more sicker(not the trendy way or saying "sic", but just absolutley disugusting and repulsive sounding!) on "Blasphemy..." then their sophmore crowning achievement "None So Vile". Third is Flo's drumming. This guy is insane, amazing...no words can descibe this 6-arm drummer, who I bet anybody is the little-known son of none more than Pete Sandoval of Morbid Angel....And the last is the guitar-sound...Very down-tuned and more bassy-sounding. For a few seconds here and their in the opening track "Defenestration", it almost sounds like Flea or Les Claypool at trying to attempt a Death Metal song. Best tracks are "Defenestration", "Abigor" and "Open Face Surgery". If you are a fan of bands such as Malevolent Creation, Suffocation, and even classic Possessed had your brain melting, then Cryptopsy will have you foaming at the mouth!

5.0 out of 5 stars I Love This Album!, August 18, 2009
This review is from: Blasphemy Made Flesh (Audio CD)
Although the production is not the best, I LOVE the sound of the bass slaps and you can actually hear the "snare" of the snare drum! Almost like an echo.

This is brilliant Brutal Death Metal! This, None So Vile and Once Was Not are probably some of the best death metal albums ever made. And believe it or not, I like this better them None So Vile! I just can't get enough of the RAW sound!

5.0 out of 5 stars am i missing something?, November 23, 2006
This review is from: Blasphemy Made Flesh (Audio CD)
I seriously can't hear the bad production on this cd. maybe its weaker than some other bands production (Origin) and maybe even some of their OWN albums (once was not) but the sound is really tight, and it makes it much more enjoyable to listen to.

Lord Worm is what got me into this band when i had a chance to see them live. I never really took a shine to them before i saw him become this undeniable presence on that stage. I was blessed by lord worm, my friend ate the worm, and threw up later that night.

I love them for everything theyve given me and the death metal scene.
Memories, a great front-man, and great music that helps the rest of us get through our lives.

highly recommended.
along with none so vile
ungentle exhumation (which really is worth it, although short)
and once was not (aka flo jacking off behind a drum set)

5.0 out of 5 stars Close Your Eyes...This May Hurt A Lot!, August 12, 2006
This review is from: Blasphemy Made Flesh (Audio CD)
Cryptopsy blew me away the first time I listened to them. It's like a mix of grindcore mixed with technical death and jazz. It's unbelievable. And this is the album that started it all.

"Defenstration" has some of the best bass lines you'll ever hear in music. And Flo Mounier is an unhuman blastbeat guy! Lord Worm, even though you can't understand the majority of his lyrics, fits in well with the band. Mike DeSalvo ("Whisper Supremacy" and "And Then You'll Beg" vocalist) is decent and all, but Lord Worm fits more perfectly.

You need this album, whether it's brutal death, tech death, or grindcore that fits your fancy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid debut, April 15, 2006
This review is from: Blasphemy Made Flesh (Audio CD)
Cryptopsy's debut is 10 energetic tracks of standard death metal, with a few qualities that put it ahead of similar music. Some basic elements of later albums are here- tremolo picked riffs, the blastbeating and the grunts of Lord Worm (whose voice is not as developed here as the inhuman howl on "None So Vile", at this point it sounds fairly typical).

The production is crappy but honestly there's no Cryptopsy album that's really produced well, except maybe "And Then You'll Beg..." (I haven't heard it). The guitars in the low ranges are too thin for the notes to be audible over some of the more high-speed beats. The bass playing is very audible for once, actually, which is a plus- there's some very quick, great playing on here.

So what sets this album apart? Well, the lyrics for one are hilarious and clever throughout. Who but Lord Worm would come up with lines like "I just want to hold your pretty hand / The rest of you can be dissolved in acid." They're often sincerely disgusting but don't take themselves seriously at all (always one of Worm's best attributes as a death metal vocalist). Honestly entertaining to read, far above the pseudo-sinister/psychopath bravado of Chris Barnes.

Next, there's some great melodic guitar harmonies placed tastefully through this album, some great solos. "Abigor" has a geniunely haunting middle section, sounding more progressive than anything. "Serial Messiah" has some more great harmonies.

Furthermore, many of the tracks on this album absolutely rock, some of the best headbanging material there ever was. "Defenestration", "Serial Messiah" and "Born Headless" are the standouts to me, chunky, blistering riffs, occasionally slowing down drastically to massive, weighty effect. Cryptopsy's songwriting skills even at this stage were fairly advanced. Each song has interesting transitory licks, tempo changes, and about 5 different (often great) riffs.

Flo Mounier's drum performance here is standout like on every Cryptopsy album, going far beyond the call of duty for music of this nature. There are simple blast beats, but there's a surprising wealth of different ideas he brings in. "Gravaged" has some truly crazy and creative rhythms.

The playing is incredibly tight, there's one point in the album where the whole band literally stops in a millisecond for a brief pause and comes back in with more devastating riffage.

The vocals occasionally shine. They really do sound devilish. They're totally indecipherable like "None So Vile", but "Open Face Surgery" has a 30 second scream. Name another vocalist who can do THAT...

The songs are all very much similar, and that is the album's greatest weakness. If you're in the mood for some great ultra-heavy music, you can't go wrong here though. I'd love to see any of these songs live.

If you're a fan of old school death metal, this is recommended. The best idea is still to start with their classic "None So Vile", but these 2 albums are different enough for owning both to be worth it.

For those who enjoy a more progressive / technical slant on things, check out their albums with their second vocalist, Mike DiSalvo (particularly "Whisper Supremacy") or their new album "Once Was Not" (a masterpiece).
