Product Description

Amazon.com Review

Fully licensed by the National Lacrosse League, Blast Lacrosse is the first and only lacrosse game for the PlayStation. All nine teams--complete with official uniforms and rosters--from this indoor lacrosse league are in the game. The gameplay is heavily influenced by the NFL Blitz series, known for its fast-paced arcade-style action. Teams get hot after scoring three goals in a row, giving them an advantage until they're shut down. Also similar are the dramatic comebacks and lead changes that are a regular part of the game.

Players will react strongly to Scott Farrell's commentary. Some will love his frequent one-liners and comedic timing, while others will hate it. There will be no argument over the game's shoddy graphics, however. The players are extremely blocky and lack detail. The game's controls are a mixed bag. While running, passing, and checking are fairly smooth, controlling a player's shot can be challenging.

Technically and aesthetically Blast Lacrosse is an average game at best. However, it offers the unique experience of a novel sport. Gamers looking for something different will want to consider this title. No other game will let you play out your dream of becoming a Rochester Knighthawk. --Raymond M. Padilla

Pros:

  • An original experience
  • Frenetic gameplay
  • Unique commentary
Cons:
  • Poor graphics
  • Imprecise shooting
  • Season mode is limited

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Game! Worth the money!, May 27, 2001

This game is a lot of fun. Starting with the graphics, they aren't mindblowing, but this is Playstation. The sound is pretty bad, as the announcer Scott Farell has about 5 or 6 annoying phrases that he says over and over again. However, the gameplay is a blast. The closest thing that I could compare it to is NHL Rock The Rink, which I still play today. It is challenging and is pretty deep as well. The Sudden Death modes are great as well and add some extra replay value to the game. The Bottom Line is that it is fun to play and it plays like lacrosse. For people who say that the game is too fast, well, its an arcade game, so it is supposed to be fast. Besides, Lacrosse isn't a slow sport like baseball. The price tag is excellent at 29.99. I dare someone to find more than a handful of new PLaystation games for only 30 bucks. Go out and buy it, you won't be disappointed!

4.0 out of 5 stars Blast at Last, May 30, 2001

A long wait is about to get a little longer. Although Blast is a Lacrosse based game, it falls short on giving those who know the game the game we have been waiting for. The game is fun to play, it is pretty cool to see a Lacrosse goal and control the great players of the MLL. Game play is pretty fast making the flow of the game difficult. You don't get to hold the ball very long before your head is ripped off. You can do some quick stick and other real life plays. I would suggest buying this game, don't get me wrong.

Hopefully this is a prelude to an improved field version, on the PS2 please.

2.0 out of 5 stars BIG DISAPPOINTMENT... Not Surprised, June 9, 2001

This review is from: Blast Lacrosse (Video Game)
upon [reading]the reviews, i went out immediately and bought this game...boy was i majorly disappointed. the graphics are horrible, you cant tell when someone has the ball clearly, every check is a massive one, and i have that announcer's voice. i hated him when he was doing late nights on wfan in ny. the game itself is just annoying to deal with. if there were other, more serious lacrosse games out there, this would be a good change of pace. but the sad fact is, there arent ANY lacrosse games out there. but im willing to wait for the right now...P>i only give it two stars because its a lacrosse game. i think ea should come out with the ncaa lacrosse game... none of this indoor lacrosse with 60 pounds of protective equipment stuff. and it would be cool if they had a "retro" game mode where you can be different tribes of native americans playing the original game of bacharach.

lacrosse is an intense, awesome, fun game. this video game, however, falls desperately short of what all of us lax fans have been waiting for. but blast lacrosse isnt good at all. rent this game, and hate it as much as i do. buuy this game, and itll quickly gather dust.
