5.0 out of 5 stars Songs soaked in American Music history., March 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Blastered: Tribute to Blasters (Audio CD)
Blastered: A Musical Tribute to the Blasters (Run Wild Records) 18 of the best rockabilly bands in the country have come together to pay tribute to an often unrecognized but influencial band. The Blasters led the parade of rockabilly revival bands of the early 1980's. The songs written by Blaster lead guitarist Dave Alvin have become classics in the roots-rock community. Run Wild records stresses style over imitation: here all the bands play the Blasters songs but put their own unique stamp on them. For an introduction to a piece off American Music history through song and the freshness of a bunch of young rock n roll bands, check out BLASTERED. --Billy Davis

5.0 out of 5 stars I love the BLASTERS... And I love this album, too!!, December 31, 2004

This review is from: Blastered: Tribute to Blasters (Audio CD)
I can't understand a Blasters fan hating this album. It is one of the most loving and respectful tribute albums I have ever heard.

I imagine Dave and Phil loved this album... I know they have always been tremendous about supporting up and coming Rockabilly talent and this album showcases the best young artists in the the genre circa the late '90s.

My favorite track is Josie Kreuzer singing RED ROSE. She sings it from the female point of view and her voice (Modern Rockabilly's most underrated pipes) perfectly evokes Alvin's original story of Lost Innocence in the Valley... It is absolutely unforgettable.

Also noteworthy are Hot Rod Lincoln's Tex-Mex version of BORDER RADIO, AMERICAN MUSIC by the Blacktop Rockets, and Highway 13's more-50's-than-the-original FLAT TOP JOINT. Each group seems to be enjoying the chance to record these songs and the result is one of the more joyous Rockabilly albums I have heard in a while. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Dave Alvin is a genius that deserves to be covered, April 30, 2004

This review is from: Blastered: Tribute to Blasters (Audio CD)
True that no other band can capture the soul of Dave's songs quite the way the original Blasters did. True also that these are some cool bands paying tribute to one of the greatest song writers and roots bands of our time.

This is good stuff and as long as you don't expect it to be a Blasters album you'll really dig it. Go man go.
