Book Description

0387952039 978-0387952031 February 22, 2002 5th
Since the publication of the 1/e in 1977, "Blaustein's Pathology of the Female Genital Tract" has consolidated its position as the leading textbook of gynecological pathology. An essential reference for all pathologists and residents, this thoroughly updated fifth edition includes more than 350 new illustrations and 28 revised chapters written by internationally recognized experts. Discussion of each specific entity is organized to include general information, etiology, and epidemiology followed by clinical features, pathologic findings, differential diagnosis, clinical behavior, and treatment. This clear organization is applied throughout the book and allows the reader to quickly access expert information in every chapter. Updates to the fifth edition include revisions to the chapter on Precancerous Lesions of the Cervix in which cytology has been integrated with histology and the role of HPV in cervical cancer screening is discussed in detail, as well as updates to the chapters on Endometrial Carcinoma, Mesenchymal Tumors of the Uterus, Surface Epithelial Tumors of the Ovary, and Gestational Trophoblastic Disease. The chapters on Molecular Biology and Immunohistochemistry have also been extensively revised as these techniques move out of the research laboratory and become incorporated into routine practice. Under the editorship of Robert J. Kurman, MD, "Blaustein's Pathology of the Female Genital Tract" remains the gold-standard reference for practicing pathologists and trainees, as well as for gynecology practitioners and residents.

4.0 out of 5 stars an old reliable reference, September 3, 2009
This review is from: Blaustein's Pathology of the Female Genital Tract (5th Edition) (Hardcover)
the book is comprehensive, but as 2010 approaches, the book needs to be updated ASAP. in light that most books of this quality are now in color, the lack of color prints (all B&W only) and good diagrams (Fletcher comes to mind) are a big downer. I'm hoping the publisher can bring the next edition online, just like other Elsevier prints or LWW's editions.
