Better than some but...,

This review is from: Blaze (Leisure historical romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
The story is centered around the daughter of an outlaw - Blaze Addlington. When Hunter Ward first stepped into her life, all he did was scorn her. Now, by quirk of fate or maybe something else, they are married. At first they dislike each other but when something about Blaze's past is revealed, Hunter learns something that makes him change his mind about his wife. Meanwhile, a man from both their pasts reappears on the scene, bent on revenge and determined to see Hunter dead. This was an okay book but there were a few too many typo errors. Blaze is a pretty good character but her whole 'thing' about Hunter's first wife is just a little bit dumb. Also, Hunter himself is a bit thick headed when he first meets Blaze but that will spoil part of the story. The villian was way too slow and thick and his 'plan' was a bit too whacked up in my opinion. Only one proper love scene and then it kinda went flat. The bit where the main characters got together was a bit abrupt. From hating each other, they suddenly go bam.

I was so frustrated by this book. It started out pretty good but the last half of the book wasn't very good at all. I don't like books where the main characters jump to conclusions about each other all the time and are fighting because they each are thinking the other has done something wrong when in fact they haven't. Very quickly at the end they forgive each other and everything is 'wonderful'. The end. I decided to trudge through it and get the whole thing read even though I lost interest half way through. I liked the secondary characters a lot better than the main characters.

so-so,
This review is from: Blaze (Leisure historical romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
I think the overall plot of this is pretty good but I have to admit to having a couple of complaints. First of all, the first time Hunter and Blaze make love it's like completely out of the blue. It was like that in the other book I've read by Mrs. Hess, as well - Willow. Also in both books the suspense that is built up over the books falls flat. It takes too long to get to it and then it just plain old isn't suspenseful. In favor of this book, though, is the relationships displayed. Blaze and Hunter are (mostly) believable and the other characters form a really nice overall cast.
