Blaze Wyndham was the ravishing beauty who came to the lavish and lustful court of Henry VIII to become the mistress of the most powerful man in England. Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

This "unpretentious romp" through Tudor England follows sensuous, fiery Blaze Wyndham, who, newly widowed, seeks diversion at the court of Henry VIII. Soon she becomes the king's mistress, friend and adviser. PW commented upon this novel's "cast of beauteous women, lusty men, pages of elaborate costume description and speedy tempo."

From Library Journal

Blaze's tumultuous tale opens in 1521 England with Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon on the throne. When 15-year-old Blaze marries the Earl of Langford, she eases the concern her father, Lord Robert Morgan, must feel about securing dowries for his eight daughters. When the earl dies suddenly, Blaze visits her sister in London, where she attracts the king's notice and becomes his unwilling mistress. When Henry succumbs to Anne Boleyn's charms, he marries off Blaze to her first husband's nephew, Tony, with whom she falls in love almost against her will. Small's fans in paperback (this is her first novel in hardcover) know what to expect: lots of sex and a good story. Doubleday Book Club alternate. Andrea Lee Shuey, Dallas P.L.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfull!! a book that you'll be unable to put down., September 20, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Blaze Wyndham (Hardcover)
Blaze Wyndham, a woman not only strong in heart but also beautiful in spirit. At a very young age she is arranged to marry the wealthy Edward Wyndham. This marriage is not for the sake of love but to produce an heir for his vast estates. Having been told time and time again what her duty will be, she still hopes for love. Marrying by proxy she see her husband only after her arrival at Riversedge. Edward realizes he could take what he wants but is reluctant because he falls in love with Blaze. Blazes only worry is Tony, Edwards cousin, he upsets her in a way she can't understand. All is happy at Riversedge until the untimely death of Edward, her now beloved husband. Blaming his death on Anthony Wyndham, She flee to King Henry's court and discovers a world quit different from what she is used to. Catching the eye of the King holds dangers she has never known. I fell in love with her spirit and the awakening of her soul. I felt part of Blazes family. Her sisters and their husbands began to sound like my relatives. I only hope that soon there will be a story for Delight(Blazes misguided sister). I love this author and recommends the story to all with a romantic heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this book!, August 31, 2003

This was the first book I read by Bertrice Small, I was 16 at the time. Now, nearly 15 years later, I am still a huge fan of hers, and have all the books she has written. This book was so good, it got me 'addicted' to her writing. This book has great historical detail, and is written so well you can visualize the things you are reading about. If you haven't read anything by Bertrice Small, this is a great start. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes historical romance!

Blaze Wyndham is a ravishing beauty who came to the lavish and lustful court of Henry VIII to become the mistress and confidante of the most powerful man in England. Although he demanded her surrender with all the awesome power of his position, the King could not have her love. And when he commanded she marry a man she professed to hate-dashing and rakish Lord Anthony Wyndham-she dared not refuse...yet Blaze's growing passion for the sweet enemy would soon becomer her destiny. Captivating love story. Couldn't put it down!
