Blaze Ya Dead Homie - "1 Less G N Da Hood" (5 stars), January 31, 2009
In 2001 gangsta rapper Blaze Ya Dead Homie returned with his second album and first LP on Psychopathic Records. And just like his debut self-titled EP, this continues the mix of horrorcore, hardcore gangsta rap and proves why Blaze is one of the most consistant members of the Psychopathic Records family.
Blaze Ya Dead Homie's rhymes here contain basically the same subject matter as his EP, gangsta rap with a mix of horrorcore. His flow, delivery and wordplay has improved since the EP as well. He even does a good job storytelling on a few tracks. But there's really not much to say about his raps, they're still gritty as ever.
The production on the other hand is WAY different than on his EP. The beats still have the gangsta vibes, but they're done in a different way. Mike P from the rock group Zug Izland produced the majority of the songs in which he gives some of them a hard hitting rock edge with the loud electric guitars and the heavy drums, which is something we didn't see on his EP. Overall I say Mike P did a great job with it. Other producers on this album are the legendary Mike E. Clark who drops in for a few tracks, and also Systasyrosis Soundsquad (Twiztid & Fritz The Cat) produce a handful of tracks. They all did their thing very well.
Here's my individual track-by-track ratings:
01. The Eulogy (ft. Jumpsteady) (N/A)
02. Grave Ain't No Place (ft. Anybody Killa & Monoxide Child) (A)
03. Casket (A+)
04. Juggalo Anthem (ft. Jamie Madrox) (A+)
05. Nasty (C+)
06. Str8 Outta Detroit (ft. Anybody Killa & Violent J) (A+) (favorite)
07. Maggot Face (A-)
08. Here I Am (ft. Twiztid) (A-)
09. Hood Ratz (ft. Anybody Killa) (A+)
10. Hatchet Luv (A+)
11. Saturday Afternoon (B)
12. Given Half The Chance (ft. Twiztid & Insane Clown Posse) (C+) (least favorite)
13. U Can't Hurt Me (B+)
14. Thug 4 Life (ft. Jamie Madrox) (A+)
15. Hatchet Execution (ft. Anybody Killa, Insane Clown Posse, Twiztid & Cynn) (A+)
So there it is. And I would also like to say that Blaze Ya Dead Homie and Anybody Killa are great when they are on a track together. Absolutely unstoppable. I recommend this album to all fans of Psychopathic Records, gangsta rap and horrorcore rap. This shouldn't disappoint the most hardcore listener. Gangsta raps, gangsta beats, gangsta album. Get this! Peace!
