Product Description

The Blazer Stingray butane torch is an anodized, refillable gas torch that creates a precise flame emitting from a nozzle head, allowing direct heat application to an object. It is used for detailed purposes such as brazing, plumbing, soldering, jewelry making, culinary, and dental and lab applications.

The Stingray has an anodized outer body finish, which increases thickness and strength to resist wear and corrosion. It features a gas flow adjustment lever, to control its blue flame length. It comes with an attachable, tabletop stand for hands-free work.

The torch houses a piezoelectric ignition system, which is based on a pressurized molecular reaction, and requires no electric connection. Piezoelectric energy occurs when the trigger is activated, releasing a small, spring-loaded internal hammer that strikes a crystal, producing a spark and resulting in gas flame ignition.

With a maximum flame temperature of 2,500 degrees F, the Stingray has a continuous burn time of approximately 1.5 to 2.0 hours, at maximum fuel volume, and has a 26-gram gas capacity. The torch head has a 90-degree fixed angle, and its flame range is 0.5 to 1.25 inches. It has a safety component that offers manual lock of the ignition, when not in use. It measures 6.0 (l) x 3.5 (w) x 1.33 (d) inches, and weighs 6.3 ounces. This product is intended strictly for use in professional and industrial environments. In accordance with federal regulations, home use of this product is prohibited.

Since 1985, Blazer Products has created an array of professional and industrial tools and equipment. Located in Farmingdale, NY, the company manufactures a variety of micro torches and ultrasonic cleaners. Blazer Products is known worldwide for its original micro torch products.

The Blazer Stingray torch operates with a standard butane canister (sold separately).

I am a professional goldsmith and I occasionally teach newbies. This is an excellent torch for someone new to soldering. It's small, easy to fill and adjust, and not scary to use. It will fuse Argentium nicely, and also solder Sterling Silver and copper wire as long as it's not a really heavy gauge. I haven't tried it on gold yet. It's great for balling up headpins and making rings and earrings. I even soldered right up next to small prongs without danger of melting them, which I was expecting to happen. Even bezels were safe with the flame right next to them. It doesn't burn nearly as hot at the oxy/acetylene that I normally use, so the fear factor is removed for someone just getting up the nerve to use fire for the first time. Of course it's still fire and safety precautions need to be followed, but it's a pretty safe torch. I like the fact that it locks. Comfortable to hold too. Initially I bought it for a specific demo, but wasn't able to get the really fine, small flame that I needed. But for general soldering it's great! I reach for it often for little stuff. I still use my oxy/acetylene for the bigger items that require a lot of heat.

I would have given it 5 stars but I did experience the lighter not lighting every single time as some others have experienced, but it's not a big deal to me. It is a giant lighter, after all. Keep it away from the kids!!!!

Also, order the triple refined butane for a smoother soldering experience because it sputters a little when used with regular butane. I could not find it locally. Rio Grande Jewelry Supply carries the Blazer brand triple refined, but you need to pay hazardous shipping charges.

Still not sure? There are lots of videos on You tube showing this torch and how easy it is to use. There's even a good class for beginners featuring how to use butane torches on Craftsy.com.

I need a torch for vape-related work, such as heating coils, torching stainless steel mesh and wick, and other similar tasks. I started off initially with one of those cheap $8 torches that looks like an oversized lighter. It sort of worked, but the flame adjustment was poor, it was hard to light, and the flame would often go out.

After looking at a few options, I went for the Blazer. I narrowed it down to this model and the 2001 model. I opted for this due to the lower price, plus the fact that the flame length is shorter and better suited to precision work.

Very, very pleased with it. It lights on the first spark each time, the flame can be easily adjusted, and the foot keeps it steady for no-hands use. The build quality is solid, with mostly metal construction. The locking button is a plus as well to ensure zero gas flow when it’s being carried in a toolbox or in a bin.

While it may seem like overkill for simple torching tasks, a good tool makes the job so much quicker and easier. Huge recommendation for this for any mini torch needs.

I'm quite pleased with this torch. My last torch of this type was a Ronson torch from Walmart, and while it got the job done while I was in college (music technology major, so quite a bit of soldering), it kept breaking in little pieces until the tank no longer held fuel.

Now, this torch: I like the fuel flow lever much better than torches that have a trigger that must be held or locked in place. The ignitor is conveniently placed for use by the thumb. It features a relatively secure safety that stops the fuel lever from moving.

The removable foot/stand is convenient for getting into tight spaces, and the torch will stand (albeit a little unstable) without the foot.

The air mixture controller works fine and allows for a tight blue tip flame all the way down to a flame reminiscent of a Bic lighter, except stronger. For those of you unfamiliar with these torches, the air holes must be fully or almost fully open in order to light it with the ignitor.

I had originally left it a 1-star review for breaking after 2 days of very light use. What happened was that after little use, it stopped lighting up and instead just make the butane air sound. It would light up, however, when there is another source of flame (such as from a different lighter) in front of it. But even then, the flame would be the weak type you get out of traditional cigarette butane lighters.

I thought this was a bad product, but after a second look, there was a label on the top, above the butane slider. It tells you to make sure the holes are in line before using it! I found out that just above the label, there is a small piece of cylinder that you can twist in either direction, and if you twist just right, you will see a hole through them. I felt so stupid after discovering this that I am reporting back and update the review ASAP.

For the actual review:

The grip is sturdy enough that you know it's not some cheap stuff. Just remember to open the carb hole, located at the barrel. I like it overall, but the flame was a little too weak for a torch of this size. Even pocket torch lighter gets nearly similar flame. I used 5x refined butane, and I often saw stutters of flame, and on a few occasions the flame went out even at flat angle. The more upside-down I got, the less reliable the torch got. For my use, however, this was no issue, as I'll just remember to keep the torch relatively flat.
