The Blazer Stratus refillable butane gas, torch lighter is a wind-resistant, blue-torch flame, pocket lighter. The lighter creates a precise flame emitting from its head, allowing direct heat application to an object. It is used for lighting pipes, cigarettes, and cigars.
The Stratus lighter has a squeeze-activated ignition system, for ease of use, and soft-touch, rubber buttons, for comfort. It has a quick-change fuel dial at its base, for flame height adjustment. The slim body of the Stratus is designed for convenience and portability.
The lighter houses a piezoelectric ignition system, which is based on a pressurized molecular reaction, and requires no electric connection. Piezoelectric energy occurs when the trigger is activated, releasing a small, spring-loaded internal hammer that strikes a crystal, producing a spark and resulting in gas flame ignition.
The Stratus weighs 63.5 grams, and is 71 (l) x 14.5 (w) x 35 (h) centimeters. It has a matte-black colored body.
Since 1985, Blazer Products has created an array of professional and industrial tools and equipment. Located in Farmingdale, NY, the company manufactures a variety of micro torches and ultrasonic cleaners. Blazer Products is known worldwide for its original micro torch products.
The Stratus lighter operates with a standard butane canister (sold separately), and comes in black gift box packaging.

What's worse, is Amazon will not accept any returns on lighters. Again, THERE SHOULD BE A WARNING ABOUT THIS IN THE DESCRIPTION.
I've handled a good number of torch lighters over the years and this one is pretty flimsy. There's sloppy play in the activating lever and it feels really cheap - the lever is made of a thin, folded, stamped metal, not a solid piece. It has a junky sound as you're activating the lever, like something between turning a really old doorknob and flexing an aluminum can - anyone standing next to you would think you're handling a serious piece of junk.
The lighter weighs more 2.3 oz., which is heaver than full Zippo, yet is has a quality level where, even though it's new and in a presentation case, I wouldn't even give it to friend.
It's not worth my time to try for warranty service, package this thing up, pay for postage, and deal with the manufacturer. I really think Amazon FAILED for not vetting this product and putting warnings up.
As a side note, there was no damage to this lighter - it literally sat unused for a couple of months, and never worked since. I would suggest moving onto another lighter.
I think the bad reviews are from people who don't know how to properly fill a butane lighter. If you constantly try to overfill it, you may damage the o-rings, like any refillable lighter. I found that two 7 second spurts work fine.
I love how this truly is one handed operation, just grip it and squeeze.
It also comes in a nice jewelry box.
Update: Recently noticed it was harder to light, especially at 5500 ft.
Replaced the cheap fluid with some triple distilled butane bought locally, and no more problems. It even made it light on the lowest setting when the cheap stuff had to be up about half way.
- Color, easy refill, easy and safe way to light.
- I thought it was a bit too heavy for a lighter.
- It does not light all the time you press the switch -- maybe 50% of the time it will light up. A very good way to ensure more dependable lighting
is to press the switch slightly first to release some gas (~.5 seconds) and then press it all the way to turn the light on. This method works very well.
- Like all torch lighters, very frequent refills are needed. I found that it lasts about 2 days of moderate use.
Buy this lighter especially if you are comparing it to the another famous [Z..] brand's torch lighter. The difference is that Blazer torch lighter works upside down, which makes it good for lighting pipes or candles.
