Beautiful-- but deadly!,

This review is from: Blazing Angels 2 Secret Missions (Video Game)
BLAZING ANGELS 2: SECRET MISSIONS is a drop dead gorgeous game...with some of the most exciting airplanes ever invented...or NOT invented. Its a "what if" World War 2 scenario, pitting your team of Allied pilots in desperate missions against Axis "super weapons of the air". Its a lot like "Crimson Skies"...and is a graphic joy. That being said, its almost incredibly hard. The missions are multi-part, and are sometimes so vague or confusing as to their goals, that you die or run out of the time-limits many too many times. Some missions mix straight forward bombing and strafing missions with incredibly difficult precision attack targets. Its fun, its challenging, but I found it ultimately frustrating. Now I'm an "older" gamer, and my reflexes are not up to the younger "Top Guns"...so if you're a hot fighter jock, pick up "Blazing Angels 2"...you'll enjoy the challenge.

A Great Game we Played for Months,

Blazing Angels 2 - Secret Missions is in essence a World War II flight simulator game - but in addition to authentic planes they toss in experimental planes, broadening your horizons. We played through the full game multiple times, it really was great fun.
The missions all have their main objectives - find the lost woman, shoot down the train, but they also have secondary objectives to encourage you to go back and replay the missions to track them all down. We found the game very replayable and enjoyed multiple passes on the same levels, trying new techniques or faster times. The graphics are quite impressive, from forested hills to ice flows in a frozen sea. The details on the planes is impressive as well and with the variety available you do appreciate having a nice rendering to look at. The game definitely isn't easy. You have to do some very precise flying to get through some of the levels, and I can see how someone new to this type of game could get frustrated. The key is to be patient and practice. Above all, this game is *fun*. There are many other games I play which are frustrating when you're doing poorly and you just want to get them over with. When you do well it hardly seems worth it. With this one, you pour hours into it because you really do get a sense that you're achieving something, you're getting better, your skills are improving, you are reaching objectives. The fast thinking and hand-eye coordination really are useful in the "real world". The characters are enthusiastic, the music is stirring, the graphics draw you into the world and the enemies are a challenge, but in a good way. They help you hone your skills and improve. We really enjoyed this game a great deal, and look forward to any new releases from this set of developers. Well recommended!

Well, graphics wise this game looks very nice. It's def. a upgrade from BL1 due to the fact you can completely customize your aircrafts. You can change the colors, icons, and even unlock "parade" or "special" paints for them. Of course beating the game all the way through and getting ace on each mission will unlock every aircraft but you can also unlock weapons. The game progresses from props to jets like in the first one but now you can homing missiles and when you choose your aircraft you can equip them to make for easier air combat (but doesn't change ground combat).
You are also able to buy upgrades to your aircrafts from the points you recieve from missions. Like: more armor, stronger weapons, smarter teamates, higher scores, etc... I found this game to be great do to the fact the customization of everything which the first blazing angels lacked. However, what comes with great has to come with bad in this game. Some people look for great cinematics with games and a great story line. I will give the game props for being creative with what the germans "might have or might not have" done and the aircraft but the cinematics are frustrating cause they make it like a chincy comic look (frame by frame). Highly annoying for the people similar to me that like to sit back and enjoy some nice graphics/story line/and great cinematics (kinda like a reward for your achievement of completing a couple of hard missions). I found this game (like the first one), once you get use to the aircraft and controls again its fun and easy. Also, the main thing i CANNOT knock this game for is the ability to land and take off which most other flying games don't have. The first one had it and they kept it in this one. Good job on you for that. So overall this game is great and i'm rating it a 4 but don't look forward to anything visually interesting between missions.

First off, the graphics in this game are great. The game play/plot line is well thoughtout. I have not had a chance to play multiplayer yet, but I suspect is will meet or exceed my expectations. Controls are not complicated, and in a short period of time (20 minutes), it becomes natural.
A few of the downsides are, it is a longer game to play. Even seasoned players can expect to spend a few weeks to beat the game. Some games can be beaten in a few hours, this one cannot. There could be a little more description of weapons/features in the game, it is kind of left open what each feature will do/what upgrade will do. Over all, one of the better flying games out there, and it also offers historical accuracy (from what I know of WWII).

As someone who cleared Ace Combat 6 on Ace difficulty without blinking, I somewhat cockily expected Blazing Angels 2 to be a cakewalk. Instead, Ubisoft did as they always do - they made a drop-dead gorgeous game that's wicked hard.
This is a true heart-of-war game. Hold onto your Spitfire throttle, the action starts from the get-go and is pretty unrelenting. The missions themselves are challenging enough to keep even veteran game fliers frustrated at times, so if you're looking for a casual sky-shooter you should probably consider another game. That said, between the missions, the "stunts" (which really aren't, but are goals to collect), and sharp play control, BA2 has a long life for play and replay. Furthermore, it's one of the only flying games with a local multi-player option, which is a huge selling point in my book. If your friend's not there to play, your AI wingmen are capable of handling their own (with a little direction now and then), which is also a major selling point. The use of an upgrade system, fully customizable plane skins, and the aforementioned stunts keep the game fresh and relevant for replay. My only real issues is that the controls are not fully customizable, and are a little awkward coming from other console flying games (at least on XB360). BA2 is also not compatible with the flight stick, so if using the core controller to fly will bother you, you've been warned. Lastly, the space between checkpoints in missions are sometimes very long, and you can find yourself putting 10, 20, or more minutes in only to be shot down and have to start over. And by "can" I mean "will". Blazing Angels 2 has a depth, challenge, feel, and beauty to it that other gamemakers should look to for inspiration. Seriously. Just know going into it, this game isn't for the casual player.

Excellent flight action shooter with a good, fictional storyline,
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Blazing Angels 2 Secret Missions (Video Game)
Blazing Angels two is an excellent game detailing fictional events and characters in a World war 2 setting. It puts you up against many enemies, with enough aircraft, and fictional weapons to keep you playing for hours. I rate this five stars because for what you can get it at now ($20) its a great price for entertainment. It features multiple local co-op modes that don't require an Xbox live connection to function, as well as a co-op campaign. My only major gripe about this game is that the machine guns quickly become outdated when you have access to weaponry such as homing missles and radio guided rockets. This being said, it still features a great storyline (albeit quite fictional) with some decent voice acting. If you are looking for an in-depth realistic world war two flight simulator, this probably isn't it. If you are looking for a game with multiple co-operative modes, and a bunch of fly-and-shoot action, this is what you will want for the price. I highly recommend it, as it exceeded my somewhat low expectations for a game in the bargain bin.

We've played Blazing Angels 1, this game takes a little while to get used to, as it is more difficult, but the graphics are great, and it is really fun, espeically when played 2-player. Great, fun buy.

My son and husband both enjoy this game - separately or playing together. One apparent glitch - when playing 2 player, you can't hook it up to 2 screens in order to have a full screen for each player - it is always split screen.

I bought this game for my 10 year old son. He and his best friend (9) love it. I (46) play with him and think it's okay. No blood and guts, so that's good. Just a fly around in different airplane with ranging speeds, weapons and maneuverability (sp?) shooting the bad guy ships, planes and bases.

fairly easy to get the hang of, the variety of planes available is impressive, and most of them are based on actual WWII planes. Fun for kids and adults.
