3.0 out of 5 stars Good, not great., August 2, 2006
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Blazing Angels Squadrons of WWII (Video Game)
I'm a huge fan of WWII games and own every title in this genre ever released for the Xbox and I found Blazing Angels to be a good air combat game (not sim!). Overall, I really prefer the action found in "Secret Weapons Over Normandy". The controls on Blazing Angels are just not as smooth and easy to handle as those on "Normandy". Also, "Normandy" features throttle controls that are infinitely variable whereas the throttle controls on "Angels" is either fully open, halfway or about one quarter and you have to hold the thumbstick in the throttle position you want. In "Normandy" you use the thumbstick to "slide" the throtte open or closed and then the throttle stays in the position you select. "Normandy" features a variable clock setting where you can speed up or slow the action down at will. The sped up clock is useful because it shortens the time while flying over long distances. The slowed clock is useful during dogfights because it slows the action to allow to think, but it's not a cheat because your bullets are slowed, your maneuvering is slowed, etc.

Finally, I don't like the way the armaments work on "Angels" if you drop all of your bombs or fire all of your rockets, they are immediately replenished. In "Normandy" you select your armament load prior to the mission and if you need to re-arm you must find an airfield and waste valuable mission time rearming.

I recommend that you either wait for the price of "Angels" to come down and buy a used copy in a few months or you can find "Normandy" now fairly cheaply as a used title. But I would not recommed paying more than $15 for a copy of "Angels".

5.0 out of 5 stars Great buy!, April 10, 2006
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Blazing Angels Squadrons of WWII (Video Game)
The game starts off with a training exercise followed by missions in a WW2 tour. The graphics are awesome throughout the game, and you get to pilot a variety of aircraft that you take off and land. The missions aren't just involving dogfighting, they also pertain to bombing runs, time limits, wingman commands, and many other challenges. If you like Ubisoft games, or any flight-sim games at all, buy this game. It's multiplayer as well! I got this game from Amazon.com using one-day shipping, and it actually came in one day! I recommend using this site to buy similar games that you may enjoy and GET THEM FAST! I recommend "Heroes of the Pacific" to go along with this one.

This review is from: Blazing Angels Squadrons of WWII (Video Game)
This is one absolutely fantastic gaming experience. You are literally dropped into an aerial combat arena to face the enemy head on. You must defend realistic sites in London, Hawaii, the Pacific and Europe. This game is challenging enough to satisfy the most experienced gamer. The graphics are extremely realistic and rich in detail. The campaigns are challenging, and even the arcade and ace battles will tax your skill levels. There is no "easy" level on this, so you'd better be really skilled at gaming and strategy, especially when you get to Rabaul. (You can't just fly away.) The "Top Secret' mission will test your piloting skills. This is, without a doubt, one of the most excellent aerial dogfighting games on the market today, you will not be unhappy if you purchase it. The only unrealistic thing about it was that you never run low on fuel or ammo, but at least that makes for longer game play! Good luck and Good Hunting!
