5.0 out of 5 stars Great buy!
The game starts off with a training exercise followed by missions in a WW2 tour. The graphics are awesome throughout the game, and you get to pilot a variety of aircraft that you take off and land. The missions aren't just involving dogfighting, they also pertain to bombing runs, time limits, wingman commands, and many other challenges. If you like Ubisoft games, or any...

I'm a huge fan of WWII games and own every title in this genre ever released for the Xbox and I found Blazing Angels to be a good air combat game (not sim!). Overall, I really prefer the action found in "Secret Weapons Over Normandy". The controls on Blazing Angels are just not as smooth and easy to handle as those on "Normandy". Also, "Normandy" features throttle controls that are infinitely variable whereas the throttle controls on "Angels" is either fully open, halfway or about one quarter and you have to hold the thumbstick in the throttle position you want. In "Normandy" you use the thumbstick to "slide" the throtte open or closed and then the throttle stays in the position you select. "Normandy" features a variable clock setting where you can speed up or slow the action down at will. The sped up clock is useful because it shortens the time while flying over long distances. The slowed clock is useful during dogfights because it slows the action to allow to think, but it's not a cheat because your bullets are slowed, your maneuvering is slowed, etc.

Finally, I don't like the way the armaments work on "Angels" if you drop all of your bombs or fire all of your rockets, they are immediately replenished. In "Normandy" you select your armament load prior to the mission and if you need to re-arm you must find an airfield and waste valuable mission time rearming.

I recommend that you either wait for the price of "Angels" to come down and buy a used copy in a few months or you can find "Normandy" now fairly cheaply as a used title. But I would not recommed paying more than $15 for a copy of "Angels".

If you like Ubisoft games, or any flight-sim games at all, buy this game. It's multiplayer as well! I got this game from Amazon.com using one-day shipping, and it actually came in one day! I recommend using this site to buy similar games that you may enjoy and GET THEM FAST! I recommend "Heroes of the Pacific" to go along with this one.

This is one absolutely fantastic gaming experience. You are literally dropped into an aerial combat arena to face the enemy head on. You must defend realistic sites in London, Hawaii, the Pacific and Europe. This game is challenging enough to satisfy the most experienced gamer. The graphics are extremely realistic and rich in detail. The campaigns are challenging, and even the arcade and ace battles will tax your skill levels. There is no "easy" level on this, so you'd better be really skilled at gaming and strategy, especially when you get to Rabaul. (You can't just fly away.) The "Top Secret' mission will test your piloting skills. This is, without a doubt, one of the most excellent aerial dogfighting games on the market today, you will not be unhappy if you purchase it. The only unrealistic thing about it was that you never run low on fuel or ammo, but at least that makes for longer game play! Good luck and Good Hunting!

anyone who writes a review for this game and rates it below a 4 star rating shouldn't be writing a review at all. That said this is one of the best games I have ever played in this genre. It's got that perfect mix of realism and fun to make a relly great game. pick it up...it's long enough to be a purchase not a rental. and one of the best things about this game are it's controls. They're very inovative. take your time in the tutoral and listen to all the instructions...if you don't that game will be very difficult indeed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Big disappointment..., April 8, 2006

This review is from: Blazing Angels Squadrons of WWII (Video Game)
After waiting for the game to become available, I find it to be a big disapointment. The game lacks the availability for beginner players to become proficient, especially since the controller mannipulation almost requires three hands (very cumbersome, and I'm a real pilot). When the action starts, it requires one to (as I have stated) be a pro at flying your aircraft or you're done for. There is a training phase at the beginning of the game, but this is done using a biplane. I could also never get the camera to work properly, so I contacted Ubisoft about my difficulties. They blew me off, suggesting I visit other sites explaining any hints with the camera. Unless you want to deal with utter frustration, and arthritis down the road, leave this game alone! I'll be selling mine on Ebay...

I just purchased this game and after playing it I wish I had looked at the customer reveiws first. Although it isn't a really bad game, it is at best mediocre compared to others of this genre. The controls are not as solid as in other aerial shooters. The throttle control is a real pain and the fact that the bombs and rockets automatically replenish takes away some of the challenge. The graphics and sound are good and the missions are pretty interesting. I haven't flown all the planes yet but it looks to have a wide variety of British and American planes. Good game but wait for the "Platinum" version or buy it used.

A Kid's Review
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars

When i played this game, it was very fun at first. You learn how to drop bombs and dogfight. As you get passed training you start doing missions such as protecting a certain objective or destroying an oncoming bomber raid. These missions can get repetitive. One mission you have to fly around and take pictures of 3 enemy camps, sounds simple right? Wrong! You are supposed to listen for enemy radios and use that to aid u, but there is no bar or gauge so it really is quite useless. There is a giant dust storm clouding your whole vision. Also computer players will keep saying the same taunts the whole game. I must of heard "My mechanic flys better then you!" a couple hundred times. The graphics on the other hand are amazing. Probably some of the best for this console. The multiplayer is fun, espically when you get all your buddys to play. Xbox live is a different story. Good luck finding anyone else on. I tryed a few times and no server lists poped up. Overall the single player is O.K while the multiplayer is good if your not hoping for other people to get on Xbox live to play it with you. You might want to rent this just to check it out, but I wouldn't go out and buy this right away.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great flying game, June 12, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Blazing Angels Squadrons of WWII (Video Game)
This game has all you could want in a game. The graphics are beautiful, gameplay is smooth and there is a good mix of easy, challenging and hard levels thru the single player mode. There is plenty more to do after the campaign mode. 1 on 1 with an Ace, mini campaign(seperate bombing & dogfight campaigns) and an arcade mode(where you take on 3 different waves of planes & 12 in each wave). Then once you've done all that, call your friends over and play any of the 6 different multiplayer modes which are very cool, everything from 1 on 1 with your friend, to waves of enemies trying to dogfight, and LOTS MORE. I think if you like flying games, you should like this one.

What a colossal waste of time! Blazing Angels is to video games what the WNBA is to spectator sports - second-rate and totally unnecessary.

Ubisoft completely and utterly missed the mark with this aerial abomination. Unlike Ubi's Crimson Skies, this game is an unmitigated disaster - the Hindenburg of X-Box flight sims.

Angels is nowhere near the same calibre as flight action games such as Heroes of the Pacific and Crimson or even Secret Weapons over Normandy.

The game play is beyond tedious. After just a few minutes of play time, I not only wanted to shoot down every enemy plane, I wanted to flame every one of my annoying wingmen. The endless and sophomoric radio chatter was enough to make me go kamikaze several times out of sheer frustration. Sure, you can mute the dialogue with the controller, but you shouldn't have to resort to that.

The visuals are not even close to the jaw-dropping eye candy of Heroes. You can't even tell you're shooting at aircraft until you are right up on them. They appear as small red markers. There is no radar, no compass, no altimeter, no speed indicator, no ordinance indicator - Basically, you have no information except that all bandits are red and all allies are green. Yippie. Thanks Ubi.

Unlike Heroes, you have only two options when it comes to the player's aircraft viewpoint - third person shooter behind the aircraft view and target lock view. There is no cockpit view option.

Worst of all, there are absolutely ZERO options when it comes to your choice of aircraft or your aircraft's armament. That decision is predetermined by the game for each mission. That is extremely annoying.

The control layout is confusing and after several hours of game play, I found myself wanted to launch the handset through my television. I can fix my plane while it's flying if I hit the correct combination of buttons!? You have got to be freakin' kidding me.

Thank GOD this was only a rental. Now, if I could only get those three hours of my life back.
