Book Description

October 1, 2006
Published in 1853, Bleak House is one of Dickens' most mature and ambitious novels. From London's slums to the Court of Chancery, where the endless case of Jarndyce and Jarndyce devours the future of several generations, the author's canvas of Victorian society vividly conveys an indictment of legal corruption, a riveting tale of detection, and a compelling emotional drama.

About the Author

David Case is the founder and current president of Live Free Ministries, a ministry dedicated to restoring kingdom power and authority to spiritual leadership. Since the early 1990s, David Case has held retreats for both pastors and lay persons, helping them break through bondages and pointing them toward fulfilling the call of God on their lives. Having pastored the same church for eighteen years, Pastor Case gives other pastors the tools they need to implement the lifegiver model into a whole-church setting. Case also co-hosts a radio program and ministers internationally. It is David Case's heart to blend "the supernatural of the spiritual realm" with a very solid application into the natural realm.

Charles Dickens is one of the greatest and most widely read of novelists writing in English. "Great Expectations" is only one of some fifteen novels, all of whose titles are common currency and all of which have been repeatedly dramatized for stage, screen and radio.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very entertaining way to experience Dickens, November 18, 2008
This review is from: Bleak House (MP3 CD)
I have been listening to several of the "classics" on my commute to work and found this recording to be highly rated and decided to give it a try. I have read many of Dickens works in the past, but had never before read Bleak House. This audio book was a treat.

The reader was David Case and I really enjoyed his ability to come up with at distinctive voice for each of the major characters. It was almost like listening to a dramatization done by several actors. He even made the women sound like women and the children sound like children. The sound quality was excellent and I found myself looking forward to my daily commute.

The story is classic Dickens. He has memorable characters and always comes up with the best names for these people. His heroes and heroines are sometimes too perfect and his villains sometimes too evil, but he manages to make them very human nevertheless.

As with all great literature, I learned or relearned several major truths and principles about myself and others as I read this book. I got a real kick out of a couple of characters that overdid charity work and it reinforced to me the concept of moderation in all things.

Since this book is so long, there was a lot of character development, which took some patience at first, but paid off in the end. I highly recommend this audio book to anyone interested in great literature.
