5.0 out of 5 stars Review of the Nonesuch Dickens edition
My review here is not of the novel, but rather of the Nonesuch edition of Dickens' classic. The book itself is a facsimile edition of the 1937 Nonesuch Dickens, and is published by Barnes and Noble. The book itself is in quality hardback. The "Bleak House" Nonesuch edition has the spine bound in leather and the rest of the cover is cloth-bound [the color of the cloth is...

1.0 out of 5 stars Almost unusable edition
This book was so large that it is imposssile read without using a large desk. It also smells so bad from another room. Also the illustrations are blurred. I can't imagine why anyone would be happy with any of the Nonesuch Dickens

5.0 out of 5 stars Review of the Nonesuch Dickens edition, May 7, 2009
This review is from: Bleak House (Nonesuch Dickens) (Hardcover)
My review here is not of the novel, but rather of the Nonesuch edition of Dickens' classic. The book itself is a facsimile edition of the 1937 Nonesuch Dickens, and is published by Barnes and Noble. The book itself is in quality hardback. The "Bleak House" Nonesuch edition has the spine bound in leather and the rest of the cover is cloth-bound [the color of the cloth is light brown].The dust jacket is clear quality plastic. The paper quality is of good stock and is cream in color.

The text is set in Martin's Type and the illustrations are from the original plates by W.L. Colls of Barnes. This is a beautiful and affordable classic [I own six of them and plan to get the rest] and the Nonesuch Dickens Classics will enhance any collector's library.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Book - Large Version, December 8, 2011

I'd already read Bleak House (library book) and loved it -- it's one of my two top favorite Dickens novels. I wanted a copy of my own, and had read that the Nonesuch versions were really good. It is a fine version -- the illustrations are well reprinted, and the font is very readable.

There's just one thing. The book is huge. It's a long novel to begin with, and since this version doesn't use tiny print (a good thing) it makes the book even bigger and heavier. Don't plan to read this one in bed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book Horrible Story, July 29, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bleak House (Nonesuch Dickens) (Hardcover)
This book is beautiful in a purely aesthetic sense. It's something that would belong in a fancy library. The workmanship is impeccable. However, the story is greatly lacking. One of Dickens worst stories ever. He is completely full of himself, taking the unsuspecting reader down multiple paths of drudgery, only to come to a completely anti-climatic ending. Don't waste your time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful edition - hard to hold, June 28, 2009
This review is from: Bleak House (Nonesuch Dickens) (Hardcover)
I love Dickens and this story; this is not a review of the book but rather this edition. I love the original type print, the illustrations, and the good, high qaulity binding and cover. Very beautiful and an excellent addition to your collection. I'd love to have all of Dickens in the nunsuch library. I gave it 4 starts because of the practical side of the edition. Obviously books are to be read, and this one is very large, heavy and cumbersome. After a while I found it difficult to hold up for reading. Not a book to use as a cary-on for plane rides. But overall I love it! It's also a great value; I looked at this same book on 2-3 other sites and couldn't find it listed cheaper.
