This threat is f*****g real indeed!,
By nvcameron (Chicago, illinois USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bleed the Fifth (Audio CD)
Fear Factory fans rejoice, Dino Cazares is back with a vengence. "Bleed the Fifth" sounds like the follow-up to "Digimortal" but with less synths & 100x more aggressive. No need for imitation this is the real deal. Fast, brutal, melodic, stunning. Dino has put together a killer group:Tim Yeungs drumming is simply insane & Tommy Vext voice is in fantastic form. Dino even throws in a little guitar solo. Heres one of the best metal albums of 2007. My only complaint is that I wish it was about a song or two longer but there is a bonus song "Purity Defiled" on the Japanese import which im going to hunt down. Overall: The best album Fear Factory never made. Superb!

Dino's best work yet....and the drumming is unreal,
This review is from: Bleed the Fifth (Audio CD)
I'll keep this short: Buy this CD. The drumming and riffing are incredible, Dino's and Tim's finest hour. THis is going to be a great month with the new Skinlab live CD coming out on 4/29 and this release. I just hope my speakers can keep up.

punishing and relentless return of Cazares,

Dino Cazares was unceremoniously dumped from Fear Factory a few years back, and except for a few side projects we didn't hear from FF's guitar machine that sculpted and defined the industrial metal his band became famous for. Fear Factory's two post-Cazares' efforts, "Archtype" and "Transgression" are still worthy CD's, but Dino's brutal rhythm attack is missed. Not so on Divine Heresy's "Bleed The Fifth", one of the most punishing, brutal and unrelentless metal slabs to rip apart stereo speakers in quite some time. So unforgiving is this disc a bit of a breather could have been welcome to add a tad of atmosphere to the mix. That's a minor point though. Divine Heresy have announced to the metal world they will not take prisoners nor will they show mercy for any contemporaries, including Fear Factory. Additionally, we get to hear some lead work from Dino, who eschewed solos in FF for the overall song. He proves to be a fiery lead guitarist and deserves more solo time. Consider this to be the shot across the bow - the competition better get to Gold's Gym, especially drummers, and work out, because this is metal on a super-human scale.

Cannot say enough good things about this CD.From start to finish it delivers an aural assault upon thine ears that does not let up until the end. As the two previous folks mentioned, it is very FF oriented , although it is far from a FF clone , let's just say you can hear the similarities in most of the songs. This CD is already getting slagged by the typical 'cant please crowd' but don't let those Immortal fan-boys steer you away from a great American release ! You know a true veteran band by the song structures , the changes are so fast and tight it is stunning at times , it is impossible to listen to this while driving and not beat the crap out of your steering wheel trying to keep up with the insanely fast double bass. The harmonies are a wonderful touch and that , I think is where you can really hear the FF influence. Love it , live it , listen to it often , all in all a fantastic release !

Dino Cazares back to brutalize...,

Since Dino Cazares was dismissed from Fear Factory I always wondered if he would ever return to the top or would he disappear into obscurity. Well if this release is supposed to be his big push back into the metal scene (though he never left) then this might well do it! I would have to agree with the reviewer before me that this CD is definitely the CD that Fear Factory never made! Ok, so there are definite similarities to anything Fear Factory has done with their first few albums, but that just goes to show you how Dino was in fact, the drive of Fear Factory & what brought them to greatness. So basically the bottom line is if you like anything Dino has done in the past with his old band or you just like straight up brutal metal mixed with some layers of harmony to keep you coming back for more, then check this out!

Absolutely One Of The Year's Best Metal Releases.....,

I picked up Divine Heresy's debut release after reading some good reviews, and I am certainly not disappointed. I had heard of the guitar player, formerly of the band Fear Factory, which oddly enough I had never heard, though I have been a huge metal fan for many years... after hearing this very solid release, I am a believer. One of the more addictive and solid metal releases this year, Divine excel at playing very intense, brutal metal featuring machine-like rhythmic intensity and some ungodly talented, super-tight rhythmic interplay between the drummer and guitarist Dino Cazares. The way these two play off each other has to be heard to be believed....very heavy jackhammer-style riffing from hell with some very cool time signature "tricks" on occasion. The vocals are varied, (death-style, melodic, and harsh Hetfield-style), but always very good. This is what it would sound like if you combined Pantera, Killswitch Engage and Meshuggah. Only a way to describe it, though, as Divine Heresy do have a unique and very heavy sound. Heres to the next album, dudes!

Excellent to the Extreme!!,
By Jeremy Brackeen "themetalbeast" (Cameron, WI United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bleed the Fifth (Audio CD)
The first time I heard Divine Heresy, I listened to their song "Bleed the Fifth" on my Music Choice metal station just last year, and I was suddenly amazed and blown away and I was like Whoa!! Where did these guys come from. Little did I knew, that I would be even more thrilled when I found out that ex-Fear Factory guitarist Dino Cazares was in this band. So I went out and bought the debut album "Bleed the Fifth" at FYE down in Eau Claire a couple months ago, and I instantly fell in love with it within a matter of seconds. Consisting of guitarist Dino Cazares (who also played bass on this album except on tracks six "Rise of the Scorned" and ten "Closure" in which Static-X's Tony Campos performed bass on), drummer Tim Yeung and vocalist Tommy Vext, Divine Heresy's full length debut "Bleed the Fifth" from Century Media is an absolute massive, bludgeoning, jackhammering, high energy extreme metal beatdown on your senses, all fully equipped with vicious brutal vocals, jackhammering riffs and destructive blasting double bass drumwork. I enjoy listening to this album almost every week, especially when I'm lifting weights at the gym. Dino's riffs are just like a jackhammer pounding and punching away at your skull. Man, this guy never sounded better on guitar, and he even solos a bit as well. Tim's drumming is absolutely fast and destructive with wicked slamming blastbeats and machine-gun-like double bass kicking. Tommy's vocals on here are just fierce, vicious and menacing ranging from death metal screaming, to Burton C.Bell-style melodic clean singing, to angry harsh Pantera-style screams.Every song on this album is just awesome and full of high energy and intensity, but here's a look at my favorites on here. My favorite song on here no doubt has got to be the title track "Bleed the Fifth" which opens up the album with a bang and I DO mean a serious bang. It starts off with a sound of a gunshot and it's suddenly followed by a lethal barrage of maniacal blasting drums, mean fiery riffs and powerful, barking screams. This song is also highlighted by an angry, intense shout-along chorus and a nice winding guitar solo by Dino. Next up, we have track two "Failed Creation" which is highlighted by wicked frightening screams, more blasting drumwork and bludgeoning riffs and a strong melodic sung chorus. Track three "This Threat is Real" is another favorite on here that features features massive, unstoppable walls of teeth-grinding riffs, pounding drums and another great shout-along chorus as well as a brief melodic solo. The fourth track "Impossible is Nothing" is another one of my favorites on here that is highlighted by hammering double bass drum onslaughts, vicious machine-gun like riffage, menacing vocals, as well as another great melodic chorus and another nice winding guitar solo, while track five "Savior Self" features fast, pounding straight-ahead drumming, headbanging induced riffs and another melodic sung chorus. Track six "Rise of the Scorned" starts off with some nice accoustic guitar strings until going into high gear with fast, blasting drums, mad shredding riffs and vicious deadly screaming vocals. Track seven "False Gospel" is another favorite of mine that features more unstoppable double bass drum onslaughts and mad shredding riffs, harsh, barking screams and a powerful, addicting chorus. The closing track appropriately entitled "Closure" is hightlighted by amazing clean melodic singing by Tommy. Please read on for my song ratings. Jeremy's song ratings: 1. Bleed the Fifth (3:06) - 5/5 2. Failed Creation (3:37) - 5/5 3. This Threat is Real (4:23) - 5/5 4. Impossible is Nothing (3:55) - 5/5 5. Savior Self (3:17) - 5/5 6. Rise of the Scorned (4:54) - 5/5 7. False Gospel (3:20) - 5/5 8. Soul Decoded (Now and Forever) (4:01) - 5/5 9. Royal Blood Heresy (4:42) - 5/5 10. Closure (3:33) - 5/5 Overall, If you enjoy great brutal, abrasive, extreme metal like Fear Factory, Pantera and other great stuff like that, then by all means, you'll definately enjoy Divine Heresy. "Bleed the Fifth" is an absolute must-have for any fan of extreme metal, trust me, it truly redefines the true meaning of extreme, and it's also an excellent cd to listen to especially while you're working out at the gym and stuff. Even fans of industrial metal, death metal, and melodic death metal will enjoy this album as well. Bottom line, this is an excellent album, so buy it now.

You Won't Believe It Until You Hear It,
By El Pablito Grande "Hardcore Guru" (Gilbert, AZ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bleed the Fifth (Audio CD)
I myself am a HUGE Fear Factory fan and was saddened when they had the nerve to reform without Dino. This album will easily make anyone who felt the same say "Fear Factory who?"The guitars = better The vocals = even though at times Tommy Vext sounds so much like Burton C. Bell of FF, he's way better. Screaming, singing, everything. Drums = Um, yeah. Raymond Herrera needs to retire. THIS is what Fear Factory could have turned into, and some might say SHOULD have turned into. If you are a fan of Fear Factory, or just a fan of melodic death metal, hardcore, metalcore, whatever you wanna call it, BUY THIS ALBUM NOW! Why are you still reading this?!?

Some of the sickest sh-t I've heard in a while...well, since FF!,
This review is from: Bleed the Fifth (Audio CD)
I can't even really try to familiarize this band and it's sound by trying to compare it to others, because it just doesn't sound like others! It is by and far some of the heaviest sh-t since Fear Factory and maybe Strapping Young Lad.Some bands that I think would be or maybe have tried to be as heavy as these guys in at least the last ten to fifteen years, and yet STILL DON'T MATCH UP could be: Machine Head, Slayer, Soilwork, Mnemic, Sepultura, even the great Fear Factory (who I still highly regard and think are incredible) doesn't truly match the intensity and brutality that Cazares and Yeung are able to produce on this album. While it is incredibly brutal, tough, and all that, I have to agree with some here and say that it does lack a little inginuity and the ability to change it up a little. I've always been a serious follower of 'all things that'll wreck your neck'...but I really think that Cazares could possibly drop his pride a little and maybe add some 'synth' or something to juice it up. Otherwise, it you're like me, a true fan of heaviest of heavy...you should pick this one up! |
