4.0 out of 5 stars A Guilty Pleasure
I'll be the first to admit that The Pinehurst Kids' swan-song CD is nothing groundbreaking, but it's a great collection of songs that are mostly breezy feel-good numbers, changed up nicely with some heavier tunes ('heavier' is a relative term, and those heavy songs are still performed by clean-cut kids in appropriate attire). I heard THE PINEHURST KIDS' "The Onceler" on the radio and I liked it a lot. It had a nice, energetic BUILT TO SPILL mixed with SUNNY DAY REAL ESTATE sound, and I had high hopes for the rest of the album after reading reviews of their ealier work. Unforunately for me, the rest of the album is unremarkable, and track 2 stands out like a diamond in the rough.

Joe Davis knows how to write a song, with proper bridges and key-changes here and there to keep your interest. (Apart from the synth solo in "All I Know" , which is uncharacteristically lame.) Fans of Samiam and Jimmy Eat World, take note: Here's another worthwhile CD for your collection, full of satisfying riffs and hooks and sing-along lyrics to buoy you through your day. Very nice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!!, February 21, 2007
This review is from: Bleed It Dry (Audio CD)
No doubt, it's a great album. I liked the "Viewmaster" album but I like "Bleed it Dry" better. My favorite songs are "The onceler", "Planet of Apes" and "Shepherd to lost Sheep" although I liked the whole album. I like their dull guitar sound and singing style. Althought this album is little havier than "Viewmaster" yet it has a very soft malody. I will recomend anybody who likes rock music to listen to this album. I just love it. Pinehurst Kids rocks!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars (4 1/2 Stars) Another First Rate Effort by Joe Davis and Co., June 1, 2001

All the Pinehurst Kids have managed to do is to release three incredibly good albums in the last 4 years. I'll put their body of work up against anyone's since the mid-90's.

Need a touchstone for their sound? Imagine Superchunk trying to duplicate their landmark "On The Mouth" LP with Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong co-writing the tunes. If that sounds compelling to you, then you'll go ape$#%! over the Pinehurst Kids.

"Bleed It Dry" compares very favorably to the band's first two excellent efforts. Joe Davis is proving himself to be one of the great songwriters currently in the game and the performances of his evolving band improves with every record. In what seems to be a slightly improbable extreme of the consistency of the band's albums, the highlights, as seems to be on each of the records, are tracks 1,2,5 & 7, with the rest of the album being merely excellent.

There's not much else to say, except, enjoy this album, catch the band on tour and look forward to their next great record.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stuck In My CD Player, May 26, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Bleed It Dry (Audio CD)
I bought this record 3 weeks ago upon a friend's recommendation, and it has stayed in my cd player ever since. Seems I have a favorite new song each week, first "The Onceler" then "No Show" then "Flashbulbs". Now it's "Rollover". Just keeps getting better with each listen, a true sign of a timeless, great record. Whatever the Pinehurst Kids are doing, they are onto something big.
