5.0 out of 5 stars most underrated band ever

2.0 out of 5 stars Life lessons
This is the absolute last time i will ever buy a CD based on hearing one song. My taste may be different from others, but "What you got" is the only decent song on the album in my opinion. I can't tell you to stay away in good conscience, but i HIGHLY recommend that you youtube a preview of the tracks or something before you take the plunge.

5.0 out of 5 stars most underrated band ever, April 7, 2003

When i first heard of this band, i thought they were just another rap metal band like the thousands that you can find out there, but i have to say that i could not have been any more wrong, this cd absolutely blows me away still to this day, they have so many different facets to their music. The cd opens perfectly with Unborn which is equivalent to being hit with a sludgehammer, rolls nicely into What you got, which is the way rap metal should be done. Some other highlights on this cd are Modified Lie, Inside Out, Plastic and Farewell fix, but the whole cd is just amazing, they do not stick to one formula throughout the cd, but they are damn good with every style that they try, be it a very melodic song, a really heavy song or rap metal, they do all very well, i hope on their next cd that drew uses his incredible melodic voice much more, i think this cd will be hard to top, but i have a good feeling that reveille will do so

5.0 out of 5 stars It's pronounced Reh-vill-ee., April 6, 2002

This review is from: Bleed the Sky (Audio CD)
It's not very often that a CD will leave me speechless. However, Reveille's "Bleed the Sky" left me just that after my first listen, and amazingly, it still does months after my initial listen. Whether it is the blistering guitar and bass combo or the blood-curdling screams, this is just a fun CD to listen to.

1. Unborn: Think Limp Bizkit's "Take a Look Around" on steroids. Awesome, awesome song.

2. What You Got: Not exactly a metal song. More of a rap freestyle with supplementary metal music.

3. Look At Me Now: Rap-metal. I don't know what more to say.

4. Modified Lie: Same as the last track.

5. Coming Back: The lyrics are a bit corny. A little more than halfway into the song, the band simply goes all-out.

6. Killing Me: Similar to "Coming Back" in that the first half of the song is decent, while the second half sees the band go absolutely crazy with blistering chords, pulsing drums, and gut-wrenching screams that would make you think the vocalist is going about to explode.

7. Bleed the Sky: Very much like a standard Tool song in that it has a very progressive rock feel to it.

8. Inside Out: Yet another rap-metal assault. I sware, if Limp Bizkit and Kid Rock hadn't tarnished the rap-metal label, these guys would receive so much more respect for the effort they put into each track. Geez.

9. Catarax: a rap-metal + a beautiful guitar solo + apocalyptic screaming.

10. Unborn: Just drums, rapping, and some other really weird noise.

11. Derelict: I love this song. When the vocalist screams, he sounds exactly like Chino Moreno of the Deftones, and there is definitely a punk rock vibe.

12. Plastic: An epic track about the evils of plastic female enhancement. The lead singer of Taproot makes a guest appearance during an odd but strangely soothing country music type interlude.

13. Farewell Fix: Probably my least favorite track. Subdued, mellow.

14. Inside Out (Remix): Not nearly as good as the original Inside Out, but I'm not complaining.

5.0 out of 5 stars Where did this come from?, November 2, 2004
This review is from: Bleed the Sky (Audio CD)
We are so lucky to experience bands like this, and so unlucky to discover that the bands have already broken up. This CD is a cross between Limp Bizkit, Deftones, and RATM. Don't be scared when a mention Limp, because it is a good thing. The music itself reminds me of an earlt Deftones AKA Around The Fur. That statement right there should make you buy this album. His scream also resembles Chino, and his singing is very RATM/Fred Durst. Buy it now.

5.0 out of 5 stars good stuff..., October 30, 2004
This review is from: Bleed the Sky (Audio CD)
this album, along with "laced" is some of the smartest hardcore music that i have heard. some of the music is formalic, but that is not really the point. the ferocity and intesity of both the music and the lyrics more than make up for that. if you like intelligent music that will make your ears bleed, check em out...

5.0 out of 5 stars epitome of hard rock, March 14, 2003

This review is from: Bleed the Sky (Audio CD)
these guys have come out of nowhere with a near perfect album.

amazing vocals, lyrics, drum lines, melodies and programming make 'bleed the sky' an epic classic modern hard rock album. it gets my vote as one of the best hard rock albumss of the 90s. i'd rank it up with Korn's album "Issues". This is truly a breakthrough band that I am excited about hearing their future work

don't think twice, buy this album. if you love Korn, POD, Linkin Park, Taproot... you need this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rap-Metal done right, September 14, 2002

In the rapidly growing world of rap-metal, there are imitators and then there are innovators. Reveille are definitely innovators in their field. If you took the original Rage Against the Machine and gave Tom Morello the day off, stuck in James Hetfield fresh off of Master of Puppets and threw in a hefty amount of fury, you would be well on your way to creating Reveille. They're more on the metal side than Rage ever was, with blistering riffs backing every song, multiple bridges and time changes. However, their strongest asset in my opinion is the skill of vocalist Drew Simollardes. He is truly an unequaled wordsmith, crafting scathing lyrics that fit perfectly with the speeding wall of steel put up by the other four musicians. Unlike many of the heavier bands that spread unfocused anger for anger's sake, Drew's lyrics focus his rage into a white hot flame directed at one's own shortcomings and others' hypocrisy. His voice is very well suited for the band, alternating between venemously spitting and furiously screaming his words. Do you remember that kid in high school that made you so furious you thought you would completely explode with anger? Well Drew's reached that point and gone past it. Reveille are definitely on the top of the heap of metal bands in general, and rap-metal in particular. Both of their CD's, Laced and Bleed the Sky are worthy additions to any metalheads' collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars reveille is the best, May 15, 2005
This review is from: Bleed the Sky (Audio CD)
this album is phenomenal - the guitar is dropped down to Db and way heavy, slamming out extremely catchy melodies that combine the complexities of solo playing while preserving the intensity of rhythm chords. The lyrics are amazing. Drew's intellectual word choice, wonderful flow, and pessimistic version of household cliches are the best i've ever heard. this is the music that makes you want to sing along, it's a rap-metal that conveys more emotion and meaning than any other i've listened to. It's hard, it's heavy, it's fast, and it'll kick your ass. It's been in my cd player for months ~ check it out

5.0 out of 5 stars Power Surge, December 30, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Bleed the Sky (Audio CD)
If what you're looking for is a surge of power in your music, morning or anytime, Reveille's "Bleed the Sky" is the ticket. I rely heavily on their rifts to get my blood going in the morning or when I need a burst of energy during the day. I was pretty much camping out at the store when this CD was released and since that day it has been spun on a daily basis. While Reveille does incorporate a lot of angry lyrics and screaming in their music, it is definitely something many can easily understand and relate to, and sing or scream along with. Like many of you, I have albums that rock but this is one where all the tracks are great and they, without a doubt, get your blood pulsing in a good way. Reveille's energy and sound is absolutely amazing. I'm very much looking forward to their next CD and I recommend "Bleed the Sky" as a "must have" for anybody that appreciates great heavy energizing sound.

Reveille's "Bleed the Sky" is amazing. In a time when it seemed everything was starting to sound the same, Reveille comes in with hard-edged guitar and bass, great drums, and a killer lead singer who's voice is unmatched. This album should be a must-have in every hard-rock fan's library.
