5.0 out of 5 stars It's not a horror its a comedy!
My friends and I were bored one night so we went to rent a video. We couldn't agree on anything so we used the old randomly-grab-a-horror-movie move and well we grabbed this. Upon watching we started off hunched togeter with the lights off expecting a scare any moment. As soon as we saw the monsters we just busted out laughing! The monsters are so stupid and fake...

2.0 out of 5 stars This film is a classic old fashion B movie

2.0 out of 5 stars This film is a classic old fashion B movie, December 2, 1998

This review is from: Bleeders [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This film contains most of the elements of a wonderfully old fashion horror movie: the beautiful, tragic young couple facing an incurable illness; the mad old woman in the ruined old castle; the family skeleton in the closet; the drunken doctor; wonderfully fake monsters; a remote island setting; the delightfully dishonest innkeeper: so where did it go wrong? The editing was haphazard. There were glaring inconsistancies in the storyline. Sometimes there were hints that led nowhere. Other times things happened that made you sure you had miss an important part of the movie. There are flashbacks but they occur so quickly the only way I was able to tell they contained actual pictures and aren't just blurs representing the confusion and weakness of John's illness was to watch them in slow motion. Roy Dupuis and Kristin Lehman made the viewer care about what happened to John and Kathy Strauss. During their search for the secret of John's past they meet a number of interesting residents of the island. Sadly most of these characters never develop. Rutgar Hauer as the doctor is actually a more minor character than his billing lead me to expect. This film is not the movie it could have been, still I enjoyed it well enough to rewatch it and try of figure out the parts where I had been left with the feeling I'd missed something.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Really Messed-Up Film, But Totally Awesome As Well, August 6, 2007
This review is from: Bleeders (DVD)
This dvd is worth it just for the one scene where he eats a preserved fetus in a jar and then screws his wife for, like, ten solid minutes.

Upon watching we started off hunched togeter with the lights off expecting a scare any moment. As soon as we saw the monsters we just busted out laughing! The monsters are so stupid and fake looking, and the plot is so not possible that it is hysterical! There is one scene with the monsters and a paranoid old lady in a whelechair that is a classic! If your looking for some great laughs get this movie!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Monster Movie, April 14, 2004
This review is from: Bleeders [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This film had some nice T & A. The social commentary is waring against incest. An important bloodline practices incest to keep the bloodline going, and over time the children end up becoming grotesque little monsters. I got this to finish my H.P. Lovecraft adaption collection; I have every last one of them and Crimson Cult was the last one I needed and I loved it. Another, better film, was based off the same H.P. Lovecraft story, if not I stand corrected; it was called Lurking Fear. As far as Lovecraft adaptions go, this is B-grade. This is an under-rated film. I got lucky and I own the now out of print and rare bloody box version. There is a plastic thing attached to the front cover that contains fake blood that is movable. I originally saw this as a rental when it first came out. It made a strong impression on me, both with social commentary, the T & A, and the off-beat nature of it. Recommended for diehard horror fans and H.P. Lovecraft devotees.

1.0 out of 5 stars Pitiful..........., March 30, 1999
This review is from: Bleeders (DVD)
I had such high hopes for this movie. It was reviewed in Fangoria years ago under the title "Hemoglobin" and, of course, they showed all the best pictures from it. The effects are WONDERFUL!, as seen on the cover of the box. I'll bet just by looking at the nasty little things on the cover, that you would want to see this. Too bad you don't even get to see them until the very end, and they are such quickly shot, that you never get to see them as good as you do on the cover. This movie is drenched in horrible dialogue that could make a crack-pumped mokey fall asleep. Just don't be fooled by the gimmicky "bleeding" cover like I sure the average person would, and you'll be ok.

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit better than average b-movie stuff, January 1, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Bleeders [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This wasn't quite your average b-movie. The plot was fairly simplistic and obvious, which I had expected, but what made it more was the decent acting between the main characters, John and his wife. They were able to give their roles more depth than I would typically expect from a movie like this. I felt there was several other characters who were unusually detailed for this sort of movie--the "odd" girl, and an undertaker's daughter! Also, I enjoyed the natural settings, the island views--so often in films like this bad quality set design detracts from the film. The other thing I very much liked was that most of the characters were women, rather than the usual "I'm fainting come and save me" females in movies like this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great mutant movie, April 4, 2007
By
This review is from: Bleeders (DVD)
I was very intrigued by this movie from start to finish. It was a very different movie for it's genre. It is a story about a orphan, in his adult life, having a major blood disease trying to find his family to get some medical history. He just doesn't know who his family is or where they are. He is drawn to an island that he has never been to before and finds his family. It sounds like a nice "run of the mill" type of movie. But it is anything but a "run of the mill" type of movie. In search of his family, he gets more than he bargains for. Roy Dupuis is a great actor in this role and does give the audience some "nice views". I highly recommend this movie to anyone that loves zombie and mutant movies.

1.0 out of 5 stars SORRY MOVIE FANS, THIS FILM SUCKS!!!, March 29, 1999
This review is from: Bleeders [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Rutger Hauer is the only reason to see this movie if you do at all. If you are one of his fans, this may turn you against him. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this abomination, it's boring, pointless, and the plot is kind of stupid. The box cover cost more than the film, that should say it all...

1.0 out of 5 stars hemoglobin., October 20, 2005
This review is from: Bleeders (DVD)
This film might look intresting but it isn't, even though it has Rutger Hauer in I just thought that it was not worth it and the storyline was very weak. A couple have just set sail to a remote island in search of some relatives and a cure for a rare disease that the male character in the film has, what they find on this island are some creatures that have been living underground all these years they turn out to be the missing relatives of the male character they also seem to be deformed and seem to have many abnormalities probably caused by inbreeding. I have to say that there were very few gore scenes some were good including the featus scene but the film was just slightly dull even for a horror b movie and some of the towns people were realy dumb and the ending just sucks so I suggest you avoid this film, I like watching horror films especialy after a long and tedious day at work but I felt like this was a waste of time and it just got irratating. I suggest you watch another low budget horror film since there so many good ones out there instead of watching this awful mess.

4.0 out of 5 stars nasty little film, April 20, 2000

Above average B-horror movie. Grotesque, not very nice, but well made and with some good acting. Not perfect, but involving and stubborn.
