I bought this album yesterday. I have been a fan of Bleeding Through for about 5-6 years and I was very impatient about this album coming out.I've seen these guys live and they are absolutely amazing!.... For the most part this album sounds to me very similar to their last album (Declaration), which isn't a bad thing. As usual, a lot of interesting keyboards, some singing, good guitar rhythms, quite few melodic choruses, unique transitions and such. As far as negative parts, not too many crazy breakdowns. And mostly important: there aren't any songs that will "grab your attention". I mean, I don't think there aren't any songs in this album that you going to listen to for a long time; few years from now (example: love lost in a hail of gun fire, revenge i seek, etc). These two songs will stay with this band forever.....So, if you are a crazy fan of Bleeding Through like me - pick the album up. If you are looking for something that will "grab and throw you out of the window", i wouldn't recommend.

Bleeding Through has always been an interesting band. Their style is rather unique, always blending hardcore with metalcore, with small touches of melodic death metal as well. With each new release from the band, their sound and overall style becomes more and more melodic, leaning more towards their death metal influences that are ever so present with each album.

These resemblances started off small on their first few albums, and really began to pick up with the release of "The Truth" back in 2006. Their follow up album to "The Truth", "Declaration", went even further down the melodic line, mixing growls, squeals, and clean vocals perfectly with the heavy riffs, fast drum beats, and eerie keyboard ambiance that radiated from every track on "Declaration".

With their new self-titled album, "Bleeding Through", the band has evolved once again. Embracing not only their melodic death metal influences, but also their symphonic black metal influences, Bleeding Through's new album may possibly top any of their earlier releases. The darker tone is obvious on every track, and the most obvious style change is in the vocals themselves.

Brandan Schieppati is known for his hardcore yells, and his melodic growls; well, on this album he kicks it up a few notches. His hardcore yells are still present on several tracks, however, he has decided to also focus on more intense vocal styles and ranges. The vocal styling is almost nothing but higher pitched growls, very similar to pure melodic death bands, and borderline to that of a few black metal bands such as GraveWorm and Dragonlord as well. Combine that with the keyboard elements that the band has already been utilizing, and the new style is very unique, very dark, and very addictive.

The album starts off with the introductory track "A Resurrection". This track is about two minutes long, and it contains an overall dark and eerie sound to it. With slow, quiet, piano work playing, the track sounds like the intro song to a vampire/monster film, which suits the entire album perfectly. It then immediately throws you in head first into the first track on the album, "Anti-Hero", which begins fast and heavy, and doesn't slow down at all.

Tracks such as "Your Abandonment", "Fifteen Minutes", "Salvation Never Found", and "Breathing in the Wrath" represent that darker tone that I previously mentioned. "Breathing in the Wrath" has the absolute most obvious change to the vocal style. Listening to this track, the listener will hear Brandan use a very high pitched series of growls, fitting into the overall "black" sound to the album. All of these tracks mentioned utilize a more haunting melody, and a wider range of growls, yells, and squeals than what has been done in the past by Bleeding Through. In the past, the band has experimented with clean vocals on several tracks, especially on their album "The Truth". On "Bleeding Through", the band takes this route again, however they do so to a lesser, more refined extent. The clean vocals are now performed by the bassist, Ryan Wombacher, and they sound absolutely amazing. Simply listen to the chorus on "Salvation Never Found" and you will see how perfect Ryan's voice fits with the rest of the track.

Overall, this is a new direction for the band, a much darker, melodic, and much more powerful direction than the past releases by the band. The keyboard is more present than ever, matching, and suiting their new sound perfectly. The new vocal styles are excellent, and well executed, including both the growls and the clean singing as well. Everything just seems to fit together nicely on this release, almost like a puzzle, and every piece lining up exactly how they should. If you're a metalcore fan, you absolutely need this album in your collection, you will not be disappointed.

2008's "Declaration" was Bleeding Through's Sistine Chapel. Put symphonic black metal, death metal, hardcore, and a sprinkle of thrash together, and you've got deathcore, right? Wrong. Bleeding Through pummeled us with a unique sound that had never been heard before and it was miles above anything else the insert-genre-here-core scene had ever produced.

Their newest release follows closely on "Declaration"'s heels, both in regards to release date and musical style. And while it still sparkles with BT's customary brilliance, one can't help but compare it to their previous effort, and in my opinion it comes up short. The black metal is a bit more pronounced, and the symphonic elements and keys take a bit of a back seat, but overall it lacks the sinister edge that made "Declaration" such a wicked treat. The sound is slightly less thick as well, which was one of the most pleasant surprises of their previous album.

But do you still want to bask in the hellfire of morbid grimness, cataclysmic breakdowns, and face-clawing terrifying riffage? This disc has it all. Just because it's slightly less stellar than their last release doesn't mean it won't death-stomp its peers into cowering wimps. Pure, delicious savagery.
