3.0 out of 5 stars Long winded, but you get 3 new songs, November 19, 2005

This review is from: Bleeding Through: Wolves Among Sheep (DVD)
I was kind of psyched at first to see that Bleeding Through would release a DVD chronicling the band's history, past to present, but what you really get in a long winded, poorly edited documentary. This documentary was shot by Ryan Downey, who also did the recent Zao dvd, which I ironically, looks exactly like this dvd, but even more long winded. The difference between both DVDs is there is a lot less "...yeah...ummm...that was awesome..." on the Zao disc. It takes a good 30 minutes before they discuss anything pertaining to the band, and 50 minutes into the film before they actually talk about a cd. Not to spoil it for you, but this whole thing plays out like a press kit for their new cd, 'The Truth' which is coming out next year in Jan 06, but it's a 2 hour press kit.

Goodies include a live set from Soma this past summer on the Strhess tour in which they bust out(in no paticular order) Rise, Wake of Orion, Number 7 with a bullet, Love lost in the hail of gunfire, on Wings of Lead, revenge I seek, sweet Vampirous, Our Enemies and 3 new songs(which were if anything, faster than the older material). I could tell you the titles of the new songs, but the audio for live portion wasn't that great. They boast at the start of the show that they didn't try to re-do, re-touch or auto correct any of this show, while we may appreciate thier honesty, it really doesn't help when you are trying to hear certain instruments as the sound was not captured from the board.

Other extras include the video for love lost, and deleted scenes.

Overall, I'm a pretty big Bleeding through fan, and I wanted a lot more, especially something with better quality. I was pretty dissapointed in the Throwdown dvd, but at least they had some humor in that. A little home video would've helped as well here and there but I guess if you don't bring a camera on the road, you don't capture any moments like that. Doesn't anybody remember how Pantera did their home videos?

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible Live Show`, May 28, 2006
This review is from: Bleeding Through: Wolves Among Sheep (DVD)
While I consider Bleeding Through to be a great band, and their studio music is well worth owning, this dvd is not worth the purchase. The documentary about the band is informative and sheds light on the members and how the band was formed, the live material is horrible. At best, it sounds like it came off of a cheap tape recorder held by a fan. I was hoping for something more professionally created. I for one can hope that if they decide to release live footage in the future that they take the time to think of their fans instead of ripping them off with a horrible concert. Also, the information provided on the cover claims there are two music videos when in truth, there is only one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Boring, February 15, 2006
This review is from: Bleeding Through: Wolves Among Sheep (DVD)
As much as I love Bleeding Through, this DVD came as a big disappointment. The documentary drags on and on. It does have its moments, however, and is fairly informative about the band. My biggest problem with the DVD is the concert material. The production of it was an absolute joke, looking and sounding like a typical ripoff bootleg that you'd find circling the Internet. They even have a preceding introduction to the concert footage saying that there were "NO OVERDUBS, REMIXES, PITCH CORRECTION, AUTO TUNING, or 'CORRECTED' MISTAKES in the following recording. It is raw and it is real." As if giving it that X-TREEEME outlook is supposed to change the fact that the footage looks and sounds like utter sh*t. They also censor the lyrics in their music video; what the hell?! But it's a pretty affordable price, so I'd only recommed it if you want to learn more about this band.
