4.0 out of 5 stars Bleeding Through NEW ALBUM, April 14, 2010
This review is from: Bleeding Through (Audio CD)
I bought this album yesterday. I have been a fan of Bleeding Through for about 5-6 years and I was very impatient about this album coming out.I've seen these guys live and they are absolutely amazing!.... For the most part this album sounds to me very similar to their last album (Declaration), which isn't a bad thing. As usual, a lot of interesting keyboards, some singing, good guitar rhythms, quite few melodic choruses, unique transitions and such. As far as negative parts, not too many crazy breakdowns. And mostly important: there aren't any songs that will "grab your attention". I mean, I don't think there aren't any songs in this album that you going to listen to for a long time; few years from now (example: love lost in a hail of gun fire, revenge i seek, etc). These two songs will stay with this band forever.....So, if you are a crazy fan of Bleeding Through like me - pick the album up. If you are looking for something that will "grab and throw you out of the window", i wouldn't recommend.
I hope anyone found this useful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Darker, More Melodic, Yet Still Bleeding Through!, June 30, 2010
By
Siklootd (Santa Fe, NM) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bleeding Through (Audio CD)
Bleeding Through has always been an interesting band. Their style is rather unique, always blending hardcore with metalcore, with small touches of melodic death metal as well. With each new release from the band, their sound and overall style becomes more and more melodic, leaning more towards their death metal influences that are ever so present with each album.

These resemblances started off small on their first few albums, and really began to pick up with the release of "The Truth" back in 2006. Their follow up album to "The Truth", "Declaration", went even further down the melodic line, mixing growls, squeals, and clean vocals perfectly with the heavy riffs, fast drum beats, and eerie keyboard ambiance that radiated from every track on "Declaration".

With their new self-titled album, "Bleeding Through", the band has evolved once again. Embracing not only their melodic death metal influences, but also their symphonic black metal influences, Bleeding Through's new album may possibly top any of their earlier releases. The darker tone is obvious on every track, and the most obvious style change is in the vocals themselves.

Brandan Schieppati is known for his hardcore yells, and his melodic growls; well, on this album he kicks it up a few notches. His hardcore yells are still present on several tracks, however, he has decided to also focus on more intense vocal styles and ranges. The vocal styling is almost nothing but higher pitched growls, very similar to pure melodic death bands, and borderline to that of a few black metal bands such as GraveWorm and Dragonlord as well. Combine that with the keyboard elements that the band has already been utilizing, and the new style is very unique, very dark, and very addictive.

The album starts off with the introductory track "A Resurrection". This track is about two minutes long, and it contains an overall dark and eerie sound to it. With slow, quiet, piano work playing, the track sounds like the intro song to a vampire/monster film, which suits the entire album perfectly. It then immediately throws you in head first into the first track on the album, "Anti-Hero", which begins fast and heavy, and doesn't slow down at all.

Tracks such as "Your Abandonment", "Fifteen Minutes", "Salvation Never Found", and "Breathing in the Wrath" represent that darker tone that I previously mentioned. "Breathing in the Wrath" has the absolute most obvious change to the vocal style. Listening to this track, the listener will hear Brandan use a very high pitched series of growls, fitting into the overall "black" sound to the album. All of these tracks mentioned utilize a more haunting melody, and a wider range of growls, yells, and squeals than what has been done in the past by Bleeding Through. In the past, the band has experimented with clean vocals on several tracks, especially on their album "The Truth". On "Bleeding Through", the band takes this route again, however they do so to a lesser, more refined extent. The clean vocals are now performed by the bassist, Ryan Wombacher, and they sound absolutely amazing. Simply listen to the chorus on "Salvation Never Found" and you will see how perfect Ryan's voice fits with the rest of the track.

Overall, this is a new direction for the band, a much darker, melodic, and much more powerful direction than the past releases by the band. The keyboard is more present than ever, matching, and suiting their new sound perfectly. The new vocal styles are excellent, and well executed, including both the growls and the clean singing as well. Everything just seems to fit together nicely on this release, almost like a puzzle, and every piece lining up exactly how they should. If you're a metalcore fan, you absolutely need this album in your collection, you will not be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Best Band in the Hardcore Scene Today, May 2, 2010
This review is from: Bleeding Through (Audio CD)
2008's "Declaration" was Bleeding Through's Sistine Chapel. Put symphonic black metal, death metal, hardcore, and a sprinkle of thrash together, and you've got deathcore, right? Wrong. Bleeding Through pummeled us with a unique sound that had never been heard before and it was miles above anything else the insert-genre-here-core scene had ever produced.

Their newest release follows closely on "Declaration"'s heels, both in regards to release date and musical style. And while it still sparkles with BT's customary brilliance, one can't help but compare it to their previous effort, and in my opinion it comes up short. The black metal is a bit more pronounced, and the symphonic elements and keys take a bit of a back seat, but overall it lacks the sinister edge that made "Declaration" such a wicked treat. The sound is slightly less thick as well, which was one of the most pleasant surprises of their previous album.

But do you still want to bask in the hellfire of morbid grimness, cataclysmic breakdowns, and face-clawing terrifying riffage? This disc has it all. Just because it's slightly less stellar than their last release doesn't mean it won't death-stomp its peers into cowering wimps. Pure, delicious savagery.

5.0 out of 5 stars Full Metal Cocktail!, December 21, 2010

CRAZOTOLOGY (Joplin, MO. (USA)) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bleeding Through (Audio CD)
This band does everything! If you took Slayer, Converge, and Cradle Of Filth and through them all in a blender they would sound like this band. Bleeding Through is an extremely talented metal band and IMO, not only is this one of the best metal albums of 2010, but this is one of the best overall albums of 2010. Great sound production and amazing guitar riffs combined with lots of cussing and heavy metal angst. Also, the CD has cool artwork, all of the lyrics, and liner notes. Bleeding Through is suggested for fans of LAMB OF GOD, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, AVENGED SEVENFOLD, and probably SLAYER.

5.0 out of 5 stars Start Pointing Fingers...They're Back!!!, September 19, 2010
This review is from: Bleeding Through (Audio CD)
As i discussed in my declaration review, i finally needed to voice my opinion to other people about bleeding through. i have religiously followed them as any diehard fan would. declaration came out over two years ago and the self titled was released april 13th...so how in the world could they top Declaration, especially with a conclusion like Sister Charlatan? Well believe me, they're back better than ever with more black metal influences and scathing vocal pitches. it did seem sudden that BT would release an album so soon after declaration, but the needed to set the foundation on their new label and hit the gruond running. this time, after brandon relinquished what was left of his soul in Sister Charlatan, he's back more melicious than ever. his subject matter now pointed in a new direction. similar to declaration, the theme of the album has never been so clear..."ANTI-HERO." BT wants people to relaize that they are not a trend and are here to stay. This album is packed with 12 tracks of harsher riffs, empowering lyrics, vocal harmonies, and reaches the pinnacle of adrenaline pumping.

as before in my declaration review, i will deduce each track to the best of my ability in terms of the bands growth. Mostly its for me to share with other people what i have been thinking for so long, so you may encounter some bias.

Each track has a particular atmosphere to them. each is distinguishable to the other. similar to declaration, they all breathe a unique life of their own, but this time, it may be a step above. the songs are more rigid and crisp. the arent any mixing issues to speak of and the album flows perfectly within the confines of its message. as each track passes by, the album prominently becomes more diverse, and evoking. you almost get anxious to here what comes next and how hard will it hit. the instrumentals have been uprgraded and the vocals have become more extreme. i cant stress enough the progression of brandon's voice from the past albums to where he is now, its simply insane. you truly grasp his emotions by the sound of his godly voice. david nassie has gone full time with the band taking jona weinhofen's (BMTH) place, marta has taken it a step forward, ryan is immaculate, derrick's drums in particular are his best yet, and brian is still top notch. it's time to reveal how this "10 years undying disease" is still at the forefront of the genre no matter what people accuse them of...

A RESURRECTION (5/5)- like declaration, the album starts with a nostolgic intro by marta. the aspect of the song is that BT has re-invented themselves again changing the criteria of their music. for them, nothing is constant. this song encapsulates this idea of rebirth and a fresh start on a new label. it's like, "they're back...and get ready"

ANTI-HERO (5/5)- the theme throughout the album no doubt. it relentlessly opens and draws you in instantly. the lyrics themselves are perfect along with the sensational prowess of brandon's vocals. BT uniquelly uses gang vocals early on to fully immerse the listeners. its nonstop throughout with a sick guitar solo by nassie. first released on the myspace way back in march, it truly shines as the statement to which BT is associated with now, and they welcome it

YOUR ABANDONMENT (5/5) - after a brief key or two, brandon releases an earthshattering scream that sounds unbelievable. this song is more prominent with the 'cradle of filth' influences and other bands of this nature. nevertheless, the song itself is simply insane. derrick's drums are some of the best parts along with the low pitch of brandon's voice. its hard-hitting and relentless. it has a very specific quality that none of the other tracks posess.

FIFTEEN MINUTES (4/5) - yet another solid track following the theme of 'antiheroes.' marta's keys are profound in certain areas that give a great distinction to the rest of the album. its one of the faster tracks in terms of pace of the song. it can catch you off gaurd at points, particularly at the end...

SALVATION NEVER FOUND (5/5) - 15 minutes ending builds perfectly for this track. i first heard this song before it was released on a radio station and flipped out. the song has the greatest impact on the first half of the disc. it sounds like nothing i have ever heard before. it pulls you in instantly with the display of perfect musicianship. after a quick segment, brandon reals you in with the flawless song writing and screams. he doesnt seem to take a breath at all in the verses, and it simply rocks. so take your breath when BT gives you a chance right in the beginnig becuase this one is non-stop. plus ryan wombacher has his moment in the clean vocal pieces and create a great dichotomy between brandon and himself. it is simply infectious from beginning to end. press 'start, repeat' then crank the volume becuase this one is insurmmountable.

BREATHING IN THE WRATH (5/5) - a true staple in BT's career, this one packs the biggest punch out of them all. after some quick notes, the gang vocals kick in and get ready for an adrenaline rush. it has the greatest energy emiting from it. once after the first couple of lines, the song stops for a split second and then it unleashes itself upon you. brandon releases his voice and the instruments kick in. again, its sticking to the theme as with the other tracks. particularly the drums and guitars, they just emit raw energy that you cant find anywhere else. it pulls leads you into itself, gives you a chance to breathe, then drags you into its bowells truly captivating your emotions. the ending is also quite unique, the scathing ending is perfect for the conclusion to track six. the symbolism here is some of the best

THIS TIME NOTHING IS SACRED (4.5/5) - similar to 15 minutes. its fast and in your face. it picks up the pace that breathing in the wrath left off on. derricks drums here are also quite powerfull. a few sublte notes by marta give the song a great sense of ergency and raw emotion.

DIVIDE THE ARMIES (5/5) - a genre classic. this one cannot be overlooked. after the pacing of the last two tracks, this one slows it down just a bit and presents a mid-paced song. it has a different style intro, then harshly begins with all members at once. the distinguished drums make it seem like an anthem, and man is it the anthem of anthems. BT has outdone themselves wiht this one. Its brash and firm. it doesnt let up to any point. its rhythm is absolutely perfect making it a giant-killer. after the evoking lyrics by brandon, ryan and brandon share a segment that is engrossing. ryan specifically has a distinct higher pitch that BT uses to their advantage. before you know it, its nears the end and tricks you into thinking its over then the duo unleash another clean segment. its just perfect

DRAG ME TO THE OCEAN (5/5) - from the people i've talked to this one seems to be on the fence with most. if you consider the pacing of the album its been going quite fast. this one slows it down to a halt and previals triumphantly. it does take a few listens to admire it but i will try to tell you why. here, the intruments in particular coupled with bradon's vocals allude to something more than the waves. in an AP interview, he was quoted that if BT music career ended, he could still go home...this song it in tribute to that...it really does feel like he is being dragged through the muck and filth that has been polluting everything. it remains a slow pace, then picks up for a few brief segements revealing brandon's range of screams. it all works as one giant metaphor. believe its worth your time if you can respect what his message is.

LIGHT MY EYES (5/5) - similar to 'the loving memory of england' it preps you for the final two. it is jsut slow enough where you dont lose focus. is has a specific ambiance to it that is truly captivating. it transitions well off of DMTTO and allows you to breath ONE FINAL TIME before the last two. brandon is speaking about looking at his band from the outside. being a fan of BT not a member and seeing their progression over the years. its certainly emotional and leaves you speachless.

SLOW YOUR ROLL (5/5)- similar to orange county blonde and blue. its quick and pulsating with intensity. one last time brandon speaks of being the anti hero in the business and is making sure you realize it. this track is wicked insane in terms of instrumentals and vocal range. it also preps you for the climactic finish.

DISTORTION DEVOTION(6/5) - the equalizer to sister charlatan. some people favor one or the other, but to me the balance out perfectly. sister charlaran was pure power and intensity, relinquishing brandon's burden. but this is a new declaration. if you break the song down the theme is not about being an anti hero. its is the only track that is in disconnect from the idea of 'antihero,' and i think it is brilliant. it truly is the leaving song. what could brandon have left to say? becaue its not attatched to the hierarchy of the theme, it creates its own identity and establishes itself as their masterpiece. the intro really pulls on the heartstrings. it is musical rapture to its finest, nothing compares to it. after the intro, brandon once again releases his soul into the lyrics. this time its different. it feels like a foreign experience almost. it encapsulates brandon and the bands internal/external struggles. the first few lines describe his 'distortion' then the rest he proclaims he shall resist it forever. "i've been to the place where lonely souls dwell...i'll take this breath and i'll say these words to you.." are some of them. but the sheer emotion from the song is uncontrolable. he doesnt leave you hanging for a second. the song is broken up into segments, toward the end you catch you breath for just an instant and you are plunged right back into brandon's torrent. it is an indescribable song that has no comparison per se. it is dettached (in my opinion) for the emphasis on the past and future of the band. its distinction is truly mesmerizing...

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Incredible., June 7, 2010
By
This review is from: Bleeding Through (Audio CD)
I have listened to Bleeding Through for 7 years now and I must say they are still in the game and are a force to be reckoned with. This is Love This is Murderous, The Truth, Declaration, and this fantastic new self-titled album have been incredible albums and I must say I like where they are going with their sound. They start off with a soothing melody and then deliver a powerful punch with Anti-Hero and go from there. My favorites are Anti-Hero, Your Abandonment, 15 Minutes, Divide the Armies, and Drag Me to the Ocean. The only song I wasn't entirely crazy about was Breathing in the Wrath, but it is still a good heavy song and all the others were fantastic I assure you. I think Divide the Armies, Anti-Hero, and 15 Minutes will be hits in no time. Unlike one reviewer, I have to say Bleeding Through will do great. Their sound has changed a tad since The Truth which is a great album, but I think the masses will be well pleased with this album. I can't wait to see them sport their new album if they come to NC this summer. 5 stars without a doubt!

4.0 out of 5 stars Divide The Armies is a metal classic, June 4, 2010

A good straightforward release. All songs are listenable. The opening number is pretty silly, but whatever. This is a healthy slab of metal.

All fine, but not a reason to write an amazon review. This is:

Divide The Armies is a metal classic. Like a once-in-five-years-will-you-hear-a-song-this-good type of track. Just as This Calling or Quiet Place or Cowboys From Hell were. If you know metal, you will get what they're doing. It's taking the Bleeding Through formula to near-transcendent perfection.

If this band is smart, they will use this track as a prototype for all things to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, once again!, April 24, 2010
This review is from: Bleeding Through (Audio CD)
This album slays, period. Dont fully agree w/ the other reviewee about the album, the part about no stand out songs? LOL, i'll tell u also as a long time fan "Salvation Never Found" is one of the best tunes they've wrote. Also "Fifteen Minutes" is a staple for sure, nice tempo change in the song from solo/break/ another solo, then a BRUTAL breakdown... Which leads to another point. How much they've grown as songwriters, they no longer need to put a breakdown in every song. And when they do, put on your knee braces! And new lead guitarists, what else can be said, a facemelter. Awesome work by him, adds a whole different element to their sound... And R Wombacker(bass) is killer again w/ the clean vocals, not too much and adds a nice change of pace. All in all Amazng album, they get better and better each album they put out... Highly Recommend

4.0 out of 5 stars Slowly Going Downhill, May 16, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bleeding Through (Audio CD)
After a few listens of this album, I figured that this album isn't better than The Truth ( I have three copies of it, including The Complete Truth) and Portrait of The Goddess. I personally think Bleeding Through will not make albums similar to those one again. I don't think Bleeding Through is going to make another perfect album like those two, unless they decide to go into a different direction. I bought two copies of this album, because I love Bleeding Through, and they are one of my favorite five bands out of all genres. I know Bleeding Through have the passion, and dedication to keep going. I'm just worried if they don't make the fans that have been around along time happy, and make another album like The Truth which sold over 200,000 copies, they will lose fans slowly through out the years. Bleeding Through will be come one of those bands who are legendary, because they are still around after all this time. I hate giving this kind of review on Bleeding Through, but I have to. They are not getting album of the year. It's some what of a disappointment, because the last album I liked from them was The Truth. Then after Declaration, I heard that and wasn't too pleased with the change. They haven't lost me yet, but they will soon if they don't make another album like The Truth, or Portrait of The Goddess. I do like the Black Metal influence on this album, It's just this album isn't as strong as The Truth was. I am really starting to wonder why they ended up on Rise Records, I am thinking it's not just, because of the problems they had with Trustkill Records, it's because of the music change. I know bands grow up after so long, but The truth is The Truth wasn't released that long ago, for them to be this different. My heart sort of burns, because I can't put Declaration, and Self Titled, on repeat like I can with The Truth, and Portrait of The Goddess. I just think in general their new sound isn't a 100 percent there for me.
