More About the Author

Joseph Armstead has been a lifelong fan of horror, science fiction and suspense fiction, in both the printed media and in cinematic form. He has always enjoyed creating interesting characters and telling stories. His education and training in the sciences inspired him to develop a more Reality-based and plausible outlook on traditional horror-suspense storytelling tropes. Cliches annoy him. The more a novel or story is firmly rooted in Reality, the more easily a reader can connect with the events and characters therein. He decries the "gore-for-gore's-sakes" school of horror fiction, seeing torture-porn as an easy cop-out for lazy storytelling. His writing centers on the themes of personal and societal alienation, xenophobia and interspecies racism, dark conspiracies, criminal violence and renegade scientific technologies. As a post-postmodernist poet, he has been published in various literary publications. Mr. Armstead is also a member of both the American Mathematical and World Futurist societies.

He currently lives in northern California, near the shark-frequented waters of the Pacific

4.0 out of 5 stars This is The Stuff!, December 6, 2002
This review is from: Bleeding Twilight: A Tale of Quinn & the Moon-Chosen (Paperback)
Get BLEEDING TWILIGHT. Period. This book is so fast-paced and so intersting and has so much going on that its a shame there aren't a million readers for it. This one delivers the goods. I read Mr. Armstead's NOCTURNES AND NEON, to which this book is supposedly a "prequel", and I thought that it was the vampire novel of the year. BLEEDING TWILIGHT, while only half as long as NOCTURNES AND NEON, is just as good. Don't hesitate: if you love good vampire fiction and are tired of the same old cliches and Goth-pretensions, then this is the book to get!

4.0 out of 5 stars Scientific Vampires with Bad Attitudes, January 4, 2002

This review is from: Bleeding Twilight: A Tale of Quinn & the Moon-Chosen (Paperback)
I really wish this book were longer. I understand that it is related to another longer book featuring some of the same characters. That's really my only complaint. Otherwise this was an exciting and dark story full of danger, suspense and lots of new twists on the cliched old theme of vampires in modern society. Mr. Armstead's vampires are arrogant and murderous and very sophisticated, more like rich corporate raiders than drooling hellspawn.

I like the difference!!

Highly recommended. Give the book a try -- if you're like me, you'll want more!
