4.0 out of 5 stars Music that Crosses Borders, May 3, 2002
This review is from: Bleibt Alles Anders (Audio CD)
I was introduced to "Bleibt Alles Anders" when I was living in Israel this last fall. Although I am not familiar with Groenemeyer's other albums, if they are anything like this one, they're worth a listen. Throughout this album, Groenemeyer makes good use of a variety of musical styles--punchy rock with gravelly guitar riffs, a touch of techno, folk, and classic string arrangements. My favorite track has to be "Schmetterlinge im Eis" (Butterfly on Ice). Groenemeyer uses a simple note pattern, which turns into a theme and variation--elegant and beautiful. Typical of his style, this song is surprising, delivering a quiet, sad love song in a way that avoids cliches and yet delivers an almost universal emotion--love unrequited. Groenemeyer uses lyrics in unusual, creative ways that have the ability to touch listeners from all over the world.

His work is an excellent expression of music as an universal language--which is exactly how I believe God created it to be. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally Awesome, March 6, 2001

In our German books at school, there are several stories about teens going to rock concerts or throwing parties, and many times the music is Groenemeyer's. After 4 years of begging, my teacher finally found the "Bleibt Alles Anders" music video for my class to watch. I immediately fell in love with the song and, thanks to Napster, have been able to listen to almost all of the songs on this CD. I recommend it to everyone!! The title track, with it's crescendoing rock beat and powerful sound, is by far my favorite. Now that I know I can buy the CD (thank you Amazon!), it's the first thing I'm going to buy with my birthday money.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is one AMAZING album!!, December 6, 2000
This review is from: Bleibt Alles Anders (Audio CD)
It is unfortunate that American listeners do not get exposure to foreign language albums unless you are a Ricky Martin fan or you are taking a foreign language in school. Herbert Groenemeyer is one of Germany's best songwriters/performers. "Bleibt alles anders" is probably his best record to date. The powerhouse tracks of the album are "Nach mir" and "Bleibt alles anders," which are the first two tracks of the CD. The subtle use of an orchestra in these tracks as well as the rest of the album literally makes the music float. "Fanatisch" is sheer brilliance. If you understand some German, all the better. The subjects Groenemeyer covers in the lyrics range from creepy "Fanatisch, to silly "Selbstmitleid," to the deeply emotional "Schmetterlinge im Eis" and "Ich dreh mich um dich." However, if you do not understand German, the effect of the album and its power are not lessened by the language barrier. If there is a weakness to be found on this album it may be "Neue Welt," but regardless, I cannot recommend this album more fervently. It's a brilliant work all around.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific!, June 28, 2000

This is fast replacing "Chaos" as my favorite Groenemeyer album. The music is fresh, and the lyrics have the same interesting Groenemeyer slant on the world. The title song in particular stays in your mind. Check out Amazon's German website (see the link at the bottom of the page) to hear some samples.

I have a friend who lives near Hamburg, she came to visit me and brought along this cd as well as Mensch. I immediately picked up on liking the music even though I didnt know everything that Herb was singing, but you dont have to know to enjoy it. Both of these cd's are great. I do wish we had more access to his and others music here in the States. Enjoy!

Bleibt alles anders...but one thing that always remains the same with me is how much I really like listening to Herbert Groenemeyer. Every record of his challenges me lingustically (I have been learning German for many years), but it still doesn't feel like work. This is another excellent album from him. The title track is especially good. Even non-German speakers should enjoy it.

I love Herbert Gronemeyer and I don't speak a word of German. It's not necessary, his voice tells you everything you want to know. My husband and I just went all the way to Holland to see him in concert 11/02, and he was totally FABULOUS, just has a voice that won't quit. Everything he does is great, but this album is perfect. If he sang more in English I'm sure he'd be as big as Sting or Bruce Springsteen or anybody in the US, he's that good. We own this cd already, but one disk is not enough....
