5.0 out of 5 stars Close, If Not Their Best Yet
I purchased this album about a year ago. I've still got the album in my CD player ready to go when I hop in the car. This album just makes me want to sing the songs as I listen to them...there are very little bands that can get me to do that to even one song, the Bodeans get me to sing every song on this album...along with the songs on Joe Dirt Car-my favorite is...

3.0 out of 5 stars The same old thing.
This was obviously a one last attempt at a good album by a bunch of one hit wonders. BoDeans were done after "Closer To Free." There was nothing special on the album, and frankly, it was kind of boring.

I purchased this album about a year ago. I've still got the album in my CD player ready to go when I hop in the car. This album just makes me want to sing the songs as I listen to them...there are very little bands that can get me to do that to even one song, the Bodeans get me to sing every song on this album...along with the songs on Joe Dirt Car-my favorite is Still the night(Joe Dirt Car), followed closely by The Understanding(Blend). The Bodeans have the ability to catch my attention whenever I hear them. If you were to buy a Bodeans album, get Joe Dirt Car...but don't overlook this one. If you enjoy Joe Dirt Car, you'll love this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars BoDeans Show Maturity, Staying Power, June 19, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Blend (Audio CD)
You're not going to rock out with this album, or even want to dance to it. That said, this is a wonderful offering from a diverse band that keeps us wondering what their next record will sound like. The two tunes that rock the most are "Count On Me" and "Heart Of A Miracle", the latter being a feel-good song filled with emotion that brings it home. But the real treat here is the maturity in songwriting. Two beautiful ballads close the record in "Red Roses" and "Lullabye". "Can't Stop Thinking" is a light little number about a man whose not ashamed to admit he can't stop thinking about his baby. This song just feels so right. Two strong songs are "Understanding" and "Hurt By Love", the latter being about a man telling his son how giving your heart to someone can totally beat you and break you down, eventually. "All I Ever Wanted" is one of the album's best songs, and for my money one of the best tunes they've ever written. Its themes of sexual abuse and child neglect are things you won't see many bands touch. But the Bo-Deans describe the female victim vividly, until by the end of the song you either want to bawl or rip your heart out. This is an album that not only every Bo-Deans fan should have, but that anyone who really listens to songwriting should appreciate. People that put down this album are missing the boat. Carry on Bo-Deans, and we will listen, learn, and grow with you.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Disc, January 19, 2012
This review is from: Blend (MP3 Download)
This is a complete work. Reminds me of Joe Walsh and the Barnstorm album. While other releases have a song or two that really stands out, this is good from start to finish, without the highs of the great songs or the lows of the not so good. Underated and Overlooked!

5.0 out of 5 stars Stands up better over time than any of their studio releases except 'Home'., February 12, 2006
This review is from: Blend (Audio CD)
In 1996, I was severely disappointed by this album. I thought it was rushed and hurried and lacked inspiration except for two tracks, "The Understanding" and "Hurt By Love" (their best individual song EVER). Now, ten years later, I think it stands up as a refreshing, rock-solid, unpretentious collection of songs that are better and more listenable than any other BoDeans album except for their masterpiece, which remains 'Home'. The title is accurate -- it is a beautiful blend of this band's individual talents, and the vocals on "Red Roses" and "All I Ever Wanted" are just superb. Kurt and Sammy's voices still blend like no other duo lead singers, and the production is clean, spare and uncluttered. Special kudos to Bob Griffin's bass work...which REALLY comes through here !

Five stars on this one to the most underrated band in America...and, along with Cheap Trick, one of the very best.

I have been a Bodeans faithful since their days at the Bluemound Bowl in Waukesha. They haven't missed a beat. I have shared their music with friends in England, France, Denmark, Belgium, Luxumbourg, Isreal, Saudi Arabia, and all over the U.S. And now Blend....further reason to spread the musical talents of this great band. We love you!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Could use a few more rockers, but another strong effort., May 20, 1999

Another solid outing by the BoDeans. It's incredible they have not experienced a string of hit singles over their career. Here, "Heart of a Miracle" is the breakout tune. Well worth picking up. Note: the band has a fine song on the "All the King's Men" CD by Scotty Moore and DJ Fontana. That song would have fit nicely on Blend.

5.0 out of 5 stars A coming of age CD from the most underrated band in America., October 20, 1998
This review is from: Blend (Audio CD)
For those of us who have been enjoying the strikingly original sounds of the Bodeans for more than ten years now, this is a highly appreciated CD. It doesn't have to "rock" to be good. The Understanding, Heart Of A Miracle and Hurt By Love are three of my favorites from this band. Sammy and Kurt have soul, and for that I'm thankful!

I enjoy the heck out of the Bodeans and must admit that this is not there best album. It is however an exceptional piece of work. This is not going to rock your socks off. Sammy and Kurt have come into their own as musicians and truley have a sound to behold. You will enjoy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Close your eyes, July 21, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Blend (Audio CD)
Blend is a distinct change from their previous album (go slow down). The songs on Blend seem to very personal and heartfelt. This is good album to listen to with your eyes closed, this is not a party album. Listen closely to Red Roses and Understanding and you'll understand what I am talking about.
