A Helpful Guide for Ready-Made Families Seeking Loving Relationships

Raising children is no easy task. Especially if they are children from your husband's or wife's previous marriage. Just at the moment you are trying to build a strong relationship with your new spouse, conflicts arise with the children. Can you hold your new family together? According to experts, most second and third marriages dissolve because of disagreements about the children.

That need not happen to you. Your family can learn to work and play together, to love and respect each other.

Written with a touch of humor, founded on personal experience and professional insight, The Blended Family can help you to

• learn how to join your spouse in "co-conducting" your children's activities
• free yourself from the guilt of past marital failure
• establish your parental role on solid ground
• become an "insider" in your new family rather than feel like an intruder
• deal with the problems of "extended families" left from previous marriages
• overcome sibling rivalries
• build new family traditions that unite
• and much more!

About the Author

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent / informative / frightening!, November 17, 2000
By
Charles Elliott (Nashville, Tennessee USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Blended Family, The (Paperback)
I borrowed this book from a friend because I was interested in the issues involved in becoming a stepparent. The author, a professional family counselor, writes from his own experience, incorporates the experiences of other couples, and gives advice from a Biblical perspective. I anticipated some of the ideas that were presented, but there is SO MUCH to think about that I had not even considered! I recommend this book for anyone who is considering becoming a stepparent, especially if he or she has children of his or her own. Don't say "I do" until you know what you're getting into!

5.0 out of 5 stars Critical Things to Consider, February 23, 2007
By
This review is from: Blended Family, The (Paperback)
I bought this book when I got remarried in 1995, and we will be celebrating 12 successful years together. This book affirmed exactly the process that we were going through early in our marriage. It made us really think about and negotiate our expectations for each other and our children. Although there were bumps along the way, this book gave us critical things to consider to successful navigate the road we are on.

1.0 out of 5 stars The Blended Family, October 9, 2011
This review is from: Blended Family, The (Paperback)
The author attempts to rewrite Biblical Scriptures into some sort of Politically Correct compromise for Dysfunctional Relationships that leads one to believe that you can somehow take a Biblical approach to justify discrepancies of Family Life or problem relationships. This book reads like an out look on life from more of a commercial prospective or that Love can be managed like a for profit business venture using biblical quotes as a tool of enforcement. Kind of like a spin on "Focus on the Family" with less modern reality because the book is so old.

Many concepts dealt with as I read this left me with new ideas as to why relationships in America as well as around the world today often don't work out. I didn't agree with the authors perceptions mostly because of the approach to manipulate and deny reality while the author attempted to blend modern life into a scenario of Historical Religious but unrelated issues. I would suggest a reader would be much better off reading the actual Bible in his favorite Version and forming a less clinical or politically structured view of humanity...

A good study for why America is in the shape it is today!
