This is the most powerful blender I have ever used. It will blend just about anything and gives you a nice and smooth liquid with no chunks. Blending ice is an ease, so it's great for mixed drinks. Great for shakes. It's great for more than you'd imagine. Comes with a cookbook that will help you to use to more than you'd probably think, including soups.

Hand blender is nice. Obviously, not as powerful, but does a good job for shakes or powdered drinks.

Both are easy to clean.

I love my BlendTec and you probably will also, but you may want to look at Vita-Mix 1700 Turbo Blend 4500 Countertop Blender with 2+ HP Motor before making a buying decision. Also a very nice blender.
