Book Description

May 1, 2007
Three sisters...one devastating secret.

Faith Alexandria Morrell, the oldest of a mysterious trio of sisters, lives a troubled life and guards a horrifying secret. Yet few, least of all her new church family, would believe this always-impeccably-dressed woman is so utterly lost. But what lies beneath the surface of Faith's carefully constructed veneer could completely destroy her.

Needing help, Faith and her sisters, Hope and Charity, join Followers of Jesus Faith Worship Center. This new mega church, led by the dreadlock-wearing, Holy Ghost-filled Pastor George Landris, just may offer the solace she needs. But Faith soon discovers that all is not well in her new church home: Pastor Landris's marriage may not be as solid as everyone thinks and he's struggling to finance the church building; Thomas, the pastor's deadbeat brother, is diagnosed as bipolar; and Johnnie Mae, the pastor's wife, is facing some tough choices regarding her ailing mother's care. How can Faith and her sisters find comfort here when so many are wrestling with their own issues? And when one sister suffers a crushing collapse, prayer may be the only way to unravel the mystery shadowing Faith and her sisters--the blessed trinity.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

In Griggs's faith-filled third novel (after 2005's Wings of Grace) featuring charismatic, dreadlocked pastor George Landris, George and his wife, Johnnie Mae Taylor, have left their Atlanta megachurch to start afresh in Johnnie Mae's hometown of Birmingham, Ala., where the pastor believes God sent him to begin a new congregation. Financial troubles and a hostile reception from power-hungry local ministers stall George's plans, but he puts his trust in God and soon builds a thriving congregation, Followers of Jesus Faith Worship Center. The pastor and Johnnie Mae face another challenge in three mysterious new churchgoers: the controlling diva, Faith Alexandria Morrell; Faith's more cautious, shy identical twin, Hope; and their plain easygoing sister, Charity. This inspirational novel leaves the reader eager to know what Griggs plans next for this spiritual family.

3.0 out of 5 stars Walking in the Present of the Ungodly, May 1, 2007
This review is from: Blessed Trinity (Paperback)
Vanessa Davis Griggs keeps us entangled in the lives of Pastor George Landris and Johnnie Mae Taylor Landris. In Blessed Trinity, Griggs' lastest release, it is a new beginning for Pastor George Landris and Johnnie Mae Taylor Landris, and the storyline starts where Wings of Grace left off. New characters are introduced in the making of a trilogy to continue into the lives of these wonderful characters. Blessed Trinity is the first book into this new beginning.

Griggs introduces Charity, Hope, and Faith Morrell; they are sisters who moved to Birmingham to get away from a bad experience in a church. There is something strange about these three ladies. They had a secret that they tried to keep others from finding out. They all have their own views on church, but Faith has the worst outlook on the people inside the church, because of what happened in their past. She would do anything to prove that she was right about how she felt. Faith was the strongest of the three sisters, Hope was more interested in pleasing others and unsure of herself, and Charity was very loving. Would Faith's actions cause the sisters' secret to be revealed?

Pastor George Landris moved to Birmingham, Alabama from Atlanta, Georgia to have a fresh start with Johnnie Mae Taylor Landris. Pastor Landris believed that God wanted him to start a church in Birmingham, but the pastors of the other churches had a different opinion on the matter. Along with trying to start a new church, Pastor Landris and Johnnie Mae decide that they wanted to try to have a baby, but Johnnie Mae is in her forties. Would her age stop her from having a child with Landris or would Princess Rose, Johnnie Mae's child with her deceased first husband, have to be enough?

Thomas Landris followed his brother George to Birmingham as well as his girlfriend Sapphire. Thomas started showing signs of acting out of his norm, and Sapphire showed concern. Her concern may prove to be the end of their relationship, as well as the end of George and Thomas' relationship.

The sisters were a welcomed addition to this series that revolves around Pastor Landris and Johnnie Mae Taylor. I can tell from the way the book ended that there really is a great deal more to come. I hope that the eagerness that the characters had in the previous works of Griggs come back. Even though the storyline was solid, it was missing the excitement that the characters had before. I would recommend this book to a reader that likes to see the true works of God unfold in front of them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Those three had everyone fooled., September 26, 2007
This review is from: Blessed Trinity (Paperback)
Ms. Griggs has convinced me, that her story telling is worth the purchase of her next book. This is the first book I've read from her. "Blessed Trinity" is a thriller that will steer you down an emotional path towards redemption.
Faith, hope and charity, were three sisters who in time exposed a very twisted secret. I for one couldn't figure it out until the 40th chapter, that's how well the book was written.
Johnnie Mae was a woman of great patience, because if I had a sister like Rachel, I would have kicked her and those kids out of my house.
Ms. Gates, Johnnie Mae's mother was very well-written as an old woman suffering with Alzheimer's disease.
Pastor Landris was like most men when it came to figuring out what was really going on with the sisters; he was also portrayed as being a man of great faith. Pastor Knight played his part as being a sabotaging menace.
I felt sorry for Thomas, being bipolar and all.
I did actually think that both Thomas and Faith were the ideal couple, being they were mentally unstable.
I really felt Ms. Griggs has written a masterpiece, way-to-go Ms. Griggs!
