5.0 out of 5 stars be set free from the power of a curse
I was first turned on to this book by a pastor friend who ministers in deliverance. Right from the outset, when we first met, he got the impression that I was suffering from some kind of curse, without even having spoken to me at any length. I was ministering in worship and praise at the time (which I still do) and I didn't pay too much attention to what he said...

1.0 out of 5 stars what God wants is for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of Jesus
Ughh. Typical word-faith blessing/curse theology. Let me give a few citations of this book, and then what the bible teaches.

On page 45 a list of seven "curses" includes chronic sickness and financial insufficiency. It's interesting that Paul doesn't tell Timothy that he's under a curse, but rather "take a little wine for your stomach ills so frequently"...

5.0 out of 5 stars be set free from the power of a curse, April 28, 2000
This review is from: Blessing or Curse: You Can Choose (Paperback)
I was first turned on to this book by a pastor friend who ministers in deliverance. Right from the outset, when we first met, he got the impression that I was suffering from some kind of curse, without even having spoken to me at any length. I was ministering in worship and praise at the time (which I still do) and I didn't pay too much attention to what he said until I read through this book.

I had felt for the longest time though (for the last 15 years or so), on numerous occasions that my family and I had experienced a great deal more of "unlucky" calamity, sickness, and financial failure than most of the people around us. The book lists, among other things, numerous objects that can be doorways for the occult or idolatry to enter into our lives. Boy was I surprised when the pastor showed me that the papyrus I used for educational purposes had the image of a musician (symbolically me) making an offering on an altar to the highest god of Egypt! From then on, my wife and I went through the house and we were amazed at the number of objects that we found. We decided to burn them in the back yard.

The book speaks in depth on self-imposed curses that we bring upon ourselves through our speech, and also covers family, or hereditary curses that were handed down to us through our ancestors. If you don't believe in hereditary curses you might want to ask yourself why the doctor's office always has you fill out a form telling them what diseases your parents and grandparents had.

The question of course is, if Christ redeemed me from "the curse of the law" why would I still need to break any curses in my life? Good question. Another question to ask yourself could be, if God forgave my sins, why am I still in jail, or why am I still suffering the consequences of my sin, or even my father's sin? I will leave you to read the book to get the author's point of view on this.

This is a highly practical as well as informative book. It has definitely left an impression upon my thinking. For those of you who have even the slightest doubt that you may be suffering from a curse, please read this book, and learn how you can be set free from its power.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Worth the read!", August 20, 2000

This review is from: Blessing or Curse: You Can Choose (Paperback)
As a traditional, evangelical Baptist pastor I was not sure about reading this book. It was recommended by a friend, however, whose judgement I trusted. I couldn't put it down. It is a wealth of Biblical wisdom and common sense. I find myself going back to it time and again, and each time I rediscover wisdom and comfort in his suggested prayers, and his analysis of scriptures which I had read often, but not understood. This book will bring you (and I use this word cautiously) 'healing,' from much that is in your past.

5.0 out of 5 stars The truth shall set you free, April 1, 1999

This review is from: Blessing or Curse: You Can Choose (Paperback)
This book is awesome. A MUST have for bible believing christians. It is very similar to Rebecca Brown MD's 'Unbroken Curses' except that it goes into much more depth. Derek Prince clearly explains the causes of curses and how to be released from them. He explains them plainly both from a biblical point of view and thirty plus years of experience . Again, an awesome and revealing book on a subject which most churches today do not want to talk about or ignore. I also recommend Prince's other book 'They Shall Expel Demons' .

5.0 out of 5 stars Do you believe...?, September 5, 2003
By A Customer
If you believe curses are a relic from the superstitious Middle Ages think again! Focusing on the individual level Prince uses the divine curses outlined in Deut. 28 (cf. Lev. 26) as a guide to prove that curses exist today, even in our modern, secular world. Yet, these same curses were pronounced on a national level too, and are fast becoming all-too-obvious in Anglo-American countries after these same countries were once richly blessed for their Biblical fidelity. With environmental pollution, insufficient food, disease epidemics, infertility, unnatural weather, foreign incursion, military defeats, accidents, family breakdown, and economic instability all leading ultimately to national captivity no one can deny God's hand in the world today! With Prince's easy-to-understand style he also outlines the cause and cure in seven simple steps. And if you still dismiss the law of blessing and curse don't take my word for it. Read the book yourself. Better yet read the Bible for yourself and note the many examples highlighting the living power of God's law both in the past, present and future and its need to be kept today both personally and nationally (Deut. 30:19; Gen. 3:14-19; 12:2-3; Lev. 26; Num. 22:6; Dt. 11; 28; 2 Sam. 12:10; Gal. 3:13; 1 Pet. 2:24, etc.)! A most enlightening study indeed!

If you or your family have ever been involved in idolatry or witchcraft this book is a must. You can see the forces of darkness totally destroyed in your life if you are willing to do what it takes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank God for this book, June 22, 2004
This is a great read. For a person like me who has not taken time to read the Bible completely, this is a gem. Because Derek has done the reading and he proves it. All that is there in this book is to choose blessings and not curses. Because it is our choice. God through Jesus Christ has set the entire human race free provided they believe in Him and understand that Jesus undertook all the self imposed curses that we brought forth from our own actions. This is how much God loves us. He gave himself up for you and me.

Must read, because your life will never be the same again. It doesn't promise any easy fix. But whoever wants to follow Christ, has to deny himself carry his cross and follow him. Be set apart and do not follow the world. Our life is precious and its like the morning fog-it's here a little while, then its gone. Make a difference with God's unlimited blessings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome book!, December 14, 2000
By A Customer
I would like to disagree with the writer below (the one who gave the two star rating). If you are familiar with other Derek Prince teachings you will know that he is the last one to say that "you can have every blessing from God at your every whim." The book is not about the spiritual rules that you have to follow to be blessed. Rather, it is an insight into the exchange that happen when Jesus was crucified (he was identified with our shame/guilt, and we with his rightousness). It is possible to know that the transaction took palce and not take adventage of it because of one's ignorance of the details of it. Or one can stay in a hotel and leave hungry the next day not knowing that the breakfest was free. Derek Prince does a wonderful job of shedding the light on what Christians are entitled to becasue of sacrificial death of Jesus.

If you have a history of misfortunes, sicknesses, etc. and/or if you are an "accident-prone" person you should get this book. Why let Satan rob you of what is rightfuly yours...Curses are real and God's holy word testifies to it. I know a whole bunch of people that got delivered because of this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Prince cracks open the scriptures showing the power of words, June 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Blessing or Curse: You Can Choose (Paperback)
This powerful message, based solidly on scripture, opens our eyes to the unseen forces at work in our lives and offers insight and hope. I believe this book is being used by the Holy Spitit to come against the three greatest weapons satan has over God's people: ignorance, doubt and fear. If this book speaks to your spirit, you must read "They shall Expel Demons" by Derek Prince.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delivered me from curses, June 26, 2003

I came across this book from my roommate.I read it in two days!It helped me understand a deep problem I had for years....I was very obssessed with astrology. After reading this book,I had a real God-experience.I threw away all my astrology books.I used to read my friends' palms for fun.I stopped that too and promised Jesus never to do it again. After this,I received Holy Spirit's blessings and gifts.I also received the Gift of Tongues.Previously, though I prayed,I never really could get any God experience.I always felt dry inside my heart.I never knew that these silly things I did for 'fun' was really obstructing my blessings from God and creating a barrier.I was delivered and now I feel very free.I rely on God's plan for my life. This great book changed my life forever!Bless Derek Prince!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Eye Opener for Christians and Non-Christians, February 28, 2006

Blessings Or Curse. I first heard parts of this book on Derek Princes radio program, and loved it! Now after reading this book and sharing it with many of our church members it has changed lives!!!!!

Many who had physical problems and mental health issues could never figure out where they came from. After they read this book, it was like a light came on. Though I preached on this subject many times. Derek's book truly touched the hearts of many! Simple, yet scriptural and factual reading.

I'd recommended it to anyone who wants to truly grow in Christ!

Another great book of Derek's is the "SPIRIT FILLED BELIEVERS'S HAND BOOK!
