Review

From a turn-of-the-century prayer meeting in Topeka, Kansas, to worldwide revival almost one hundred years later, over half a billion Christians have received an experience commonly called “the baptism of the Holy Spirit.” The Blessing offers a comprehensive look at how God wants to touch your life with his power and love.

Affirming the power of God working in his church, this book introduces you to the baptism of the Holy Spirit, the use of spiritual gifts, and how these gifts can empower you to proclaim the good new of Jesus Christ to a hurting world. The Blessing answers such questions as: ? What is the baptism of the Holy Spirit? ? How can I receive this experience? ? What is the scriptural basis for spiritual gifts? ? What can we learn from historical and contemporary revivals? ? How can the blessing deepen our relationship with Christ and help us face the challenges of the 21st century?

The Blessing encourages all believers to seek a deeper, fuller, richer experience of the Spirit in their lives -- Publisher

From the Publisher

Victorious Living Isn't About Techniques or Trying Harder. It's About the Power of the Holy Spirit. Spreading the Gospel places Christians on the front line of clashing philosophies. But Christianity is no mere philosophy, and evangelism isn't accomplished by out-arguing non-believers. Our logic alone can't reach the lost or defeat the kingdom of darkness. We need the power of the Holy Spirit. Today, the church at large is rediscovering its need to rely on the Holy Spirit for personal holiness and effective ministry. The Blessing provides a gracious and balanced look at the experience known as the baptism of the Holy Spirit and what it means to filled with the Holy Spirit. Written by respected leaders of the Assembly of God, The Blessing encourages every believer to seek a deeper, fuller, richer experience of the Spirit in their lives. The Blessing answers such questions as What is the baptism in the Holy Spirit? How can people receive this experience? What evidence should accompany or confirm this spiritual baptism? What are the personal benefits? What potential dangers should we be aware of? What guidelines are included in Scripture about using our spiritual gifts? What can we learn from historical and contemporary revivals? How can the blessing deepen our relationship with Christ and help us face the challenges of the 21st century? The Blessing affirms the power of God working in His church, strengthening believers to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ to a hurting world. It offers a foundational understanding of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and what that means for Christians today. And it encourages every believer to deepen their own spiritual walk with Christ through the Holy Spirit.

This review is from: Blessing, The (Paperback)
After the success of their first book, Trask and Goodall are back at it again with "The Blessing." This one is even better than the last! Beginning with a history of Pentecostalism in the 20th century, this book quickly begins to tell the story of the phenomenal growth of Pentecostalism around the world. It then tells account after account of God's Holy Spirit moving throughout this century. A balanced and uplifting book, promoting spirit-filled living for Christians everywhere. It's an encouraging book sure to create a thirst for more of God's Holy Spirit in the life of anyone reading it! Review by Dr. Mark Bradford, Seminary Professor
