Crumbling Dreams?,
By M.K. Bullock "Mimi" (Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Blessings: Sommerfeld Trilogy #3 (Truly Yours Romance Club #19) (Paperback)
BLESSINGS, by Kim Vogel Sawyer
Reviewed by Marion Kelley Bullock Trina Muller works in her mother's cafe in Sommerfeld. Outwardly cheerful, she harbors a secret desire to attend college and become a veterinarian. She dreams of taking over Doctor Groening's practice when he retires. But her parents would never approve her career. Trina can't believe God would give her the gift of healing sick and injured animals without allowing her to use it. Graham Ortmann loves Trina, but he's indignant when she shares her plans to attend college. She should be content to be a wife and mother. How could he marry a woman who won't follow the dictates of the Old Order Mennonite fellowship? After Trina begins her studies, a young veterinarian buys Dr. Groening's practice and Trina begins to doubt her calling. Other troubles pile up and Trina fears she'll never be able to achieve her dream. Not only will Trina Muller win your heart, but you'll also be able to reconnect with the other friends we met in Beginnings and Bygones. Kim's third book in the Sommerfeld trilogy is well worth the read.

Kim's stories grip your heart and won't let go,
By
This review is from: Blessings: Sommerfeld Trilogy #3 (Truly Yours Romance Club #19) (Paperback)
In the third book of her Sommerfield Trilogy, Blessings, Kim Sawyer again draws us into the life and times of the people in this town. Trina has a dream of being a veterinarian, but it goes against everything her family and the Mennonite culture believes. Still, she plans toward fulfilling her goal. Every where she turns, obstacles block her path, but her love for Graham Ortmann gives her hope. Even though he doesn't at first approve of her ambitions, his love causes him to support her dreams. When all odds seem against her going to college, Trina finds help from her friend Beth. As people and events around Trina grow and change, Trina begins to believe her dream may come true. Her faith is tested through many trials and objections, but it takes a near tragedy for her heart to know the truth and what to do about the future. A great story of love and friendships, Blessings will bless your heart with its gentle story of hope

Wonderful Story,
This review is from: Blessings: Sommerfeld Trilogy #3 (Truly Yours Romance Club #19) (Paperback)
Sawyer is a terrific writer and has a way of drawing you into the story so that you feel as if you know the characters. The book has a strong spiritual message regarding the importance of prayer.
I've enjoyed this series and hope this book wasn't the end. I want to know what happens later, so I am hoping there is another book. Blessings was a pleasure to read.

A Compelling Read,
This review is from: Blessings: Sommerfeld Trilogy #3 (Truly Yours Romance Club #19) (Paperback)
Trina Muller's story thread runs through the books of the Sommerfeld Trilogy.
In Bygones: Marie Koeppler Quin and her grown daughter Beth return to the Mennonite community Marie abandoned twenty-three years ago. Trina Muller and her mother are running the café which Beth inherited from her aunt. In Beginnings: By her healing touch, Trina Muller saves a kitten that would have been thrown away. The kitten becomes a gift to Beth Quin. In Blessings: We concentrate on Trina's struggle. She can never quite please, or live up to her mother's expectations. She struggles with her job in the café, which is not fulfilling to her because she knows her gift and concern for animals comes from God. Trina is caught between the proverbial rock and a hard place. The community which she loves and needs does not think a woman with a career is normal. After reading the book the real take home value for me was the healing of relationships from reading Gods word, not with preconceived beliefs, but with discernment of what the Bible really says.

Love and Commitment,
This review is from: Blessings: Sommerfeld Trilogy #3 (Truly Yours Romance Club #19) (Paperback)
Trina Muller loves animals, and wants to be a veterinarin, but that would mean going way to college. Her parents and her church would never approve such a move. And she knows for sure Graham Ortman, the man she loves and wants to marry would never understand. She is working with Dr. Groening, the local vet, which only fans the flames of her desire to work with animals. Graham is furious with her. Doesn't she know that a woman's highest calling is to be a wife and a mother? How can she go against the teachings of the Old Order Mennonite? A strong story of love and commitment, of two young people trying to live their faith and still follow what they believe is God's plan for their lives.

This trilogy was a delightful read. I read all three books in a couple of days. I didn't want to put them down as Ms. Sawyer writes beautifully and holds the readers interest 'in captivity'. I recommend this trilogy to anyone who enjoys reading about the Mennonites or the Amish. Their culture is fascinating. Kim Vogel Sawyer is a very talented author.

This is the third book in the Sommerfield Trilogy and follows Trina, Andrews neice from the second book, and her love of Graham and her passion for helping animals. Trina has always been an obedient daughter even when she didn't agree or want to do something asked of her, but recently she has felt a pulling to be something pleasing to God and believes her passion for helping animals is God's Will. Trina finds that she must attend college to fulfill her dream but her church doesn't permit schooling beyond 9th grade. Determined, she enrolls in GED classes to prepare for college behind her parents backs but feels the need to confide in her boyfriend, Graham. He is upset and doesn't believe this calling is God's will just Trina being defiant and doing what she wants. When Trina's guilt gets to her she confesses to her parents and faces the backlash. Trina wants to please her family and Graham, but feels to do so she must give up on her veterinarian goals to become the good daughter again and plan her marriage to only become a wife a mother with no hope of becoming more. When an accident occurs, Trina is forced to make some tough decisions. The book was really good and the storyline and characters easy to connect with. I could understand Trina's determination and worries, but also her sadness with being stuck. She had so many goals, but no options in which to pursue them. Like I said, the book was good but it did have some slow places. Also, each of these books in the trilogy could be read on their own without having read the others, but I read them back to back and it just helps me to feel closer to the people and their families and take their stories a little further with each book.

The best in the trilogy. They definitely saved the best for last. Could still use another book to wrap things up, but this is the best one of the trilogy.
