Less than half punk,
By
This review is from: Blight at the End of the Funnel (Paperback)
While there are some truly monumental punk shots, they're less than half of the book. The rest consists of some non-punk posed shots, some misc. art photography, and some of his assemblage work.
And the editorial review is clueless--Colver has NOT been shooting punk for over 25 years. He started over 25 years ago, shot for a few years, but, by his own admission at the reception, hasn't shot punk shows since the early 80's. Oddly parallel to Jenny Lens. In the end it was worth it just for the great shots of Ian MacKaye singing from the crowd, Darby Crash crawling across the stage, and the cover shot of the guy doing the backflip into the crowd. In fact it's all pretty good, but I still knock it down to 4 stars for being half something very different from what it purports to be.

What ever happened to the stage diver on the cover?,

I haven't seen this book yet, but I was wondering if it discussed the cover photo. I've spent a lot of time looking at this picture. I always wondered who the kid flying through the air was, what he was jumping from and how he landed. I also wonder what ever happened to him. Anyone know?

Edward is THE punk rock photographer, period,
This review is from: Blight at the End of the Funnel (Paperback)
This is THE definitive punk rock photo book, bar none. I can't imagine what drugs that first reviewer must be on. It seems Edward Colver took the BEST and most definitive shots of just about every band. Mostly, its his shots of the top hard core punk bands, the ORIGINAL punk bands that started the whole movement, its these shots that are already considered 20th Century Icons, but even his shots of the Chili Peppers and Ice Cube are certainly among the BEST shots of those artists, although those aren't hard core punk bands. There is no one even REMOTELY close to this guy for American Hard Core Punk Photography at the birth of the scene in Los Angeles, California. If you're looking for shots of GREEN DAY, well, this isn't your guy, but if you're interested in authentic hard core punk, and the birth of punk in Los Angeles in the 80's, this is THE book.
