Suspenseful, mysterious! All R.L.Stine books are great!,
By Stafford Springs, Connecticut (USA-Stafford High School) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Blind Date (Paperback)
Read any of R.L.Stine's stories lately?! They're great. I enjoy most of R.L.Stine's books because his stories are very suspenseful and thrilling. I never want to put down my book once I start reading. In Blind Date, the main character Kerry runs into many humiliating and threatening situations. I admired Kerry's personality and the way he dealt with his problems was sometimes humorous. I enjoyed this story very much. One of the reasons I liked Blind Date was that many upsetting and scary experiences happened in this novel. Kerry's first upsetting issue was when his eldest brother died, and then his parents got a divorce. Kerry's parents said the divorce would help make the stress go away. Usually at a time of mourning, the family should need each other, and a lot of love and support. His Dad was a cop and not a grand role model to his sons at all. Kerry's mother tried to keep in touch with weekly phone calls, which soon became monthly phone calls. I do not feel that not keeping in touch with the boys was a smart idea. While reading through these sad details, I remember when my parents got a divorce. I felt emotional in this situation and understood how Kerry was feeling. Kerry had a good sense of humor, and he dealt with everything so well. Kerry's youngest brother, Sean, acted immature and irresponsible, always harassing Kerry about his modesty and about not having a girlfriend. Surprisingly, the night Sean commented on Kerry having no dates, Kerry got a mysterious phone call while sleeping. The first conversation Kerry and his blind date had was quite amusing and mysterious. For example, Stine wrote, " 'Hi, Kerry.' It was the sexiest voice he had ever heard. 'I'm your blind date.'(Stine30) At first, I thought the phone call was a prank. But the suspense gave me something to ponder over. Stine continued, 'Oh, don't turn on the light, Kerry. Let's talk in the dark.' Her voice was kittenish, a soft purr. Every word seemed like an invitation."(31) I knew the blind date and Kerry would get to know one another a little better, and then go on a date. After Kerry hung up, he thought about go a date. This phone call occurred at night when Kerry was just getting into bed. After Kerry hung up, he thought about how weird the whole scene was. Overall, my favorite scene was when Kerry and his blind date first met. This was my favorite scene because while I was reading through Stine's dialog, we had to imagine what the mysterious date looked like. I enjoyed the way Stine described Mandy's appearance in details. Furthermore, I really liked the mysterious phone calls, and the guessing by Kerry to try to figure out who the threatening caller was. I could actually imagine what Kerry was seeing and feeling. The first encounter between Kerry and Mandy was at school. They were both nervous because Mandy had asked Kerry if he would show her around the school. Mandy and her family had just moved to town. A peer from school, Donna Mueller set Mandy up to call Kerry. All Kerry could think about was how sexy and amazing her voice and laugh had sounded. Kerry couldn't wait because he had a feeling this girl was going to be really different. Also at this point, Kerry was trying to imagine what his new friend was going to look like. She sounded hot and like the girl of his dreams. I do not want to give the whole story away, but I would like to give a recommendation to R.L. Stine's books. To any of my fellow peers, I attest to R.L. Stine's ability of being a great author. In summary, I really liked Blind Date and I have read several of his young-adult books from my school library. His Goosebumps series also attracts a lot of elementary students. I have found out many more books of his are available. I am determined to read all other novels of his I find. I love reading stories with plenty of suspense and imagination. Although most of his stories are related to real life issues, the thrilling, scary parts are always happening.I would recommend any of R.L. Stine's books to whoever enjoys a good thriller, or a suspenseful mystery. Every time I read one, I am so engrossed with the mystery that I never want to put down my book.

Troubles of the Real World Crossed with the Imagination of R,
By Sarah Whittle (Cheyenne, WY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Blind Date (Paperback)
Blind Date is a roller coaster ride for the reader. This book is packed with the ups and downs of adventure and teen life. The story starts when Kerry, a boy in high school, just tackled the star-quarterback, Jess and broke his back and went into a coma. Jess's cheerleader girlfriend, Sherri swears she will get vengeance on Kerry. At the hours of darkness, he gets a phone call, and a sexy, kitten like voice purrs, "Hi, I'm your blind date." But what you don't know is that Kerry's bigger brother Donald is in a mental hospital the year before and that plays a major part in the story.I was dreadfully interested in the events that happened, for instance Kerry's tires get slashed after the school dance. This is one of the only R.L. Stine books that captured my curiosity. The characters were exceptionally believable because Kerry was a shadow in his older brother Donald's footsteps. Kerry also was believable because he didn't get many dates and I know some guys; they don't get loads of dates. I liked this book because it had a lot of twists and turns. At the conclusion of each chapter, a new surprise would arise and would make you what to read more. I recommend it to anyone and everyone because it will keep you guessing until the end.

This review is from: Blind Date (Paperback)
It all starts out with a boy named Kerry ended up breaking the best football player on the team on accident, but everyone thinks else. Then things start to look better when he meets his blind date. When it's time to finally meet Mandy, a piece of the memory he had forgotten for almost a year ago comes back to him. It is a mystery for him and the reader to find out what happened in his past as well as the mysterious Mandy. It's a spine-tingler and a good book for any thrill seeker.

Jumping from Thought 2 Thought,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Blind Date (Paperback)
I read Blind Date in only a day because of R.L. Stine's suspenseful way of writing and the way he makes u turn in another direction when it always leads back to the same path. What I mean is that he would lead you to think one thing which was correct and kind of predictable but then it's not always the truth. For example he sends you hints that the blind date is the main character's brother's girlfriend's sister (kind of confusing) which is what the insane date tells the main character toward the end, but turns out she was just a crazy girl that had made this person in her mind that was not real. You must read this book if you wish to really understand what I mean.

Unpopular student becomes the talk of the town.,
This review is from: Blind Date (Paperback)
Unpopular Student becomes the talk of the town or maybe not. What terrible events could take place next? I have read many of R.L Stine Books and found that the book s were very hard to put down once I picked them up. The reason that I liked this book so much is that I find that I enjoy a book that Is not just a mystery but also has action-packed scenes. For example, Kerry comes across the whole football team threatening to beat him up over an accident. Read on to find out what happens next. In the book the Blind Date, the unpopular main character Kerry comes upon terrible tragedies throughout his whole life his oldest brother dies, and his parents get a divorce thinking everything will get better. One reason why Kerry life is so depressing that he is the most useless guy in school. Not one person that he plays football with thinks that he is any good for the team. Kerry also believes that he couldn't get a girlfriend if his life depended on it. Kerry wishes that he was like his older brother, who was highly liked by everyone and has a girlfriend. Kerry has a younger brother Sean, who is always making fun of him about not having a date or a girlfriend, but late that night Kerry just so happened to get a suspicious phone call from a girl with a sexy voice that sounded totally hot. When Kerry got the phone call, I thought that the phone call was one of the kids on the football team who wanted to get revenge on Kerry after he was
accused of purposely injuring the star quarterback by breaking his leg and sending him to the hospital I believe that this book reminds me of the 1999 movie Varsity Blues, which was a really good movie. I believe that the book the Blind Date is much better than the movie Varsity Blues. I believe this because the movie was not a suspenseful mystery like the book. One part in the book that made me like the book better then the movie was when Kerry got the very first phone call from the mysterious Mandy. Mandy was new to the town and was set up on this phone call by her friend Donna Mueller. The reason that I thought made the better then the movie is that if I were in Kerry's shoes and I had never had a girlfriend I would feel kind of privileged that a girl called him that was interested in him. And this person sounded really sexy, I would definitely want to be walking through the halls holding hands with a fabulous hot girl while all of my friends drooled over her and I think this part makes the book more exciting and mystifying then the movie. Kerry wanted to meet her so badly because the girl sounded like the woman of his dreams or maybe her worst nightmare. Another part that made that made the book more riveting then the movie is the one part in the book when the blind date Mandy came across Mandy for the first time and the unbelievable happened. The only way to find out exactly what happened is to get the book the Blind Date, by the one and only R.L Stine. To sum up the great book, I highly recommend this book to anyone of any age if he or she is a big fan of R.L Stine. If the person reading this likes to read edge of his or
her seat books and has never read any of his books, then this is a good one to start reading. Pick up one of R.L Stine's great, action-packed mysteries today.

Book Report,
By A Customer
This review is from: Blind Date (Paperback)
Blind Date was an okay book. I thought it was confusing sometimes though. I don't think that it's the best book, but it was alright. Blind Date was about a guy named Kerry who was set up for a blind date with Mandy from his school. Mandy was kind of strange. Like the time she picked up Kerry dressed up in a poncho(which is a rain coat). I thought this book was kind of neat though when Mandy would stick up for Kerry, because the football players would pick on him. Thwe reason they picked on him was because he broke the starting quaterback's leg on their football team so he quit. Later on you'll find out if Mandy is the girl of Kerry's dreams or a real nightmare for Kerry. I recommend this book for people that like mystery books.

I could figure it out,

I pretty much knew what was going on and who the date was throughout the book. It had some cool things in it, like Kerry's big fight with the football boys, but it was still too predictable. It is a good read, thoug, so it's not a total drag.

Blind Date written by R.L.Stine,
By A Customer
This review is from: Blind Date (Paperback)
Think blind dates are great? That's exactly what Kerry thought. When Mandy phoned it was like pure blissful heaven to him. Kerry is not popular, the whole football team hates him,the cheerleaders who are their girlfriends also hate him. The cheerleaders won't even give him the time of day,( even though he's on the football team). Kerry's older brother Theo was on the team and was the most popular guy around, Kerry can't figure out why he couldn't be like his brother. Things get weird, not just with school, his brother Theo, but also with Mandy. Kerry had no idea that having a girlfirend could change everything so fast. Kerry doesn't know who to trust. This book kept me turning page after page. This book is a must have for everyone.
