This was one of those blind buys after Netflix never bothered stocking the title. Little wonder there; this is a poorly plotted, ridiculously inept giallo with nothing to recommend it. The box art is labeled as BLIND DATE whereas the on-screen title is APPOINTMENT IN BLACK, FYI. I was hoping for something funny, trashy and sexy along the lines of ARABELLA THE BLACK ANGEL or Sergio Martino's CRAVING DESIRE. Instead I fast-forwarded through the boring sex scenes and had no interest in the stupid twist ending(s). Best experienced while vacuuming in another room.

Pity poor John Baldwin, he's married to a hot babe ,Angela, who is being harassed by nightmares and sleazy guys and is also having an affair with live in secretary Eva, what's a poor guy to do? Arrange to have his wife eliminated. But never underestimate the power of women. That's the gist of this nineties soft core Italian late in the genre Giallo. The film also has a twist in that the lead police investigator is a woman played by Danielle Stroppa who also wrote the screenplay. The double crosses mount up to its far fetched conclusion. Why Mya Communications titled this 'BLIND DATE' is baffling when the credits list it as 'APPOINTMENT IN BLACK' and the DVD cover lists it as 'APPUNTAMENTO IN NERO'. The film resembles one of those Showtime Cable After hours films that they used to make throughout the nineties with worthless hubba hubba sex scenes which proceed to novacaine rather than titillate the senses. The only redeeming quality is the beauty of the leading ladies: Mirella Banti as the wife with an agenda and Mary Lindstrom who is topless throughout the film even in front of the married couple and who's assets manage to keep you from nodding off when a plot twist occurs. Director Antonio Bonifacio directs with no great shakes , wondering if the photographer Pier Luigi Santi is enhancing the proceedings making the actors look painfully out of place copulating (in soft core, mind you)and looking bored and embarrassed , how can you make gorgeous women like these look listless is beyond me? I found more eroticism in pine branches brushing up against my car door. The three star rating is for the over the top story which I fell on the floor with laughter as the credits came up. Mya Communications has a great transfer in its 1.85 Widescreen ratio with Dolby digital English and Italian stereo soundtracks. Recommended for hard core Giallo fans only.
