I loved it!,

This review is from: Blind Sight (Moving Fiction) (Paperback)
Blind Sight by James H. Pence hits the ground running, literally. The book opens with Paul Bishop on a desperate mission to see his children safely aboard a Dallas bound airplane. He scurries through the airport drilling his instructions into his children. The information they carry is of national importance. Bishop is running from a dangerously sinister cult, sure to convert (kill) him when they discover his plans to expose them. Bishop manages to get the children on the plane despite the well-placed, cleverly clandestine "conversion" team meeting him at every turn. Just before poison arrests his body, he manages to get a call in to Thomas Kent, the man to whom he has trusted with the lives of his young ones. His life seeping away, he mutters one desperate cry at the answering machine's beep. "Save my children." The last thing Thomas Kent wanted was a couple of kids. He had some of his own once, and he had not recovered from the loss. When he finds out that Bishop, a man he barely remembers from his college years, sent him two children, his first reaction is to run the other way. Realizing the children's danger, he does agree to take them to their mother. As Kent risks his life trying to help a family he did not know, he finds healing and peace about the family he lost and a restored relationship with the God that he once loved. Blind Sight is fast paced and exciting with surprises, twists, and turns that will keep you reading until the end. I highly recommend this book!

It Could Happen,

This review is from: Blind Sight (Moving Fiction) (Paperback)
The most exciting Christian fiction book I've ever read. You don't want to start this book thinking you'll read a few pages every night before you go to sleep. You'll read all night because you can't put it down. It starts out with a bang....then it speeds up and never lets up until the last page. Guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Blind Sight Helped Me See,
By Dillon Burroughs (Sherman, TX USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Blind Sight (Moving Fiction) (Paperback)
New author James Pence captures readers into a thrilling adventure where a dangerous cult threatens America's future. Thomas Kent, angry with God and content to die, discovers himself pulled into action when a former college friend sends his two twin children at the threat of his own life. Drawing upon a promise from years ago, 9/20/42 becomes the dying cry of a man desperate for help with his children in their search for a mom living in hiding. When Thomas and mother, Justine, cross paths, life turns upside down as each page hurls readers through a tumult of dizzying circumstances. Assassins on the prowl, a presidential candidate's reputation at stake, and countless brainwashed converts force Thomas, Justine, and her children toward an unexpected ending that keeps everyone guessing. While such adrenaline-laced work should entice lovers of suspense, particularly suspense from a Christian perspective, those too young or searching for a flowery finish need not apply. Though Justine's children sometimes appear advanced for their age at points, the writing is extremely fresh, innovative, and "moving," just as the publisher promises. I would recommend Blind Sight to any fiction lover tired of formulaic adventures or hungry for an inspiring new author. But hold on tight, Blind Sight will open your eyes and help you see life in a whole new way.

exciting suspense thriller,
This review is from: Blind Sight (Moving Fiction) (Paperback)
At JFK Airport, Peter Bishop desperately tries to sneak his two young children on a plane heading to Dallas where he hopes a college crony can safely take them to their mother. Peter expects The Fellowship for World Renewal, a fast growing cult, to kill him as a traitor, which they do as he places a call to "Uncle" Tom Kent, leaving a death bed message: "save my children".Tom does not understand the phone message or why Peter whom he had not spoken with in years, left it for him. Still he follows instructions to make a package pickup at the airport, but when he sees the package is two kids, he bolts as they remind him of his wife and children, who he killed in a vehicular accident. When he notices the twins in trouble, he helps them escape. Now he and the Bishops are fleeing for their lives as a powerful cult headed by a man expected to run for vice president chases after them. Their only hope is to find Peter's wife, hiding in the bayous of Louisiana from The Fellowship for World Renewal who declared her a traitor. This is an exciting suspense thriller that moves rather quickly forward from the moment a panicked Peter places his kids on the plane until the final confrontation. The story line insures the audience understands the demons that eat at Tom and delight with the relationship between the twins. Though Michelle seems much older for her age and Micah handles his handicap with too much ease, fans will appreciate this taut thriller that emphasizes evil is disguised wearing the face of goodness. Blind Sight,

I am always amazed by the writings of this extremely talented author. I have bought and am the proud owner of all his previous books, but in my opinion this novel throws author, James Pence into a totally new and different category. This title, indeed, puts him right up there with all of the "Big Boys" such as Ernest Hemingway, Sidney Sheldon, Lawrence Sanders and yes, even Stephen King.James Pence not only gives you a bird's eye view of the characters and scenery, but his exquisite talents actually take you there. You can actually feel your own heart break as "Gumbo" the loyal, courageous German Shepherd gives his life in order to save those he loves. You feel as though you are stumbling through total darkness as you will, Micah, the precious blind boy towards safety. You sit nervously by and bear witness to actions of which you are helpless to stop. When suddenly the awareness hits you ~ James Pence has gone far beyond the normal, and surpassed even some of the most experienced veterans of Literature. For not only do you become an invisible character in this novel, but just like the true characters in this tale, you feel the emotions so central to the story and find yourself actually turning to God and praying for his guidance and protection for those precious children and the others that seem to have been forsaken as well. This book is for EVERYONE, of any age, race, culture or faith. It is so obvious to me that James H. Pence has been chosen to share a special message to all people and through his intelligence and talents he has excelled in his mission, with a little help from above. :-) I feel that we have truly been blessed to have such a fine man and author among us and I pray that he will continue to enlighten and inspire all who are privileged enough to have the wisdom to pick up his books and read what he has come to share with us.

Never too late to read a good book!,
This review is from: Blind Sight (Moving Fiction) (Paperback)
I'm a little late getting my hands on this book but I won't be for Pence's next one! This author seemed to have his finger on the pulse of the innerworkings of cult life. I felt as if I were on the inside . . . looking out. A really creepy feeling. I finished Blind Sight a week ago and I'm still looking over my shoulder. If you're searching for a book you won't be able to put down... I suggest Bling Sight.

Begging for a sequel!,

I thorughly enjoyed this very moving book. It is full of suspense, action, drama and has a spiritual punch. The verses in Habakkuk are well chosen and give hope to anyone who is suffering and can't find God in the equation. The author did a great job interweaving the various experiences of the characters and did a good job of keeping me guessing. I love the formatting of the book and think it is a masterpiece. It is just begging for a sequel.

Great first novel,
By Richard Mabry "author, retired physician" (Frisco, TX, USA) - See all my reviews

I read this novel after reading Jim Pence's second book, The Angel. Knowing that this was his first book, my expectations were admittedly somewhat lower. They shouldn't have been. He spins a tale that holds your attention throughout, and just when one crisis seems to have been averted, another pops up.
This is a Christian novel--i.e., it's written from a Christian world-view. It's not preachy, nor saccharine, and I'll stack it up against many of the popular secular novels currently available. I understand that the sequel to Blind Sight is in the works. I can hardly wait.

An Edge-of-Your-Seat Thrill Ride,
By
This review is from: Blind Sight (Moving Fiction) (Paperback)
"Blind Sight" by James Pence is a "betcha-can't-put-it-down" novel in the tradition of John Grisham, Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker. As the story opens, we witness a dying man's desperate attempts to get his children to safety. By the second chapter, the reader learns that much more is at stake than a family's well-being. Pence makes us care about his well-drawn characters--including a blind child, a grieving father and a woman on the run from cult leaders-from the very beginning of the book. And his skills with pacing, research and dialogue put "Blind Sight" on a different level than most Christian fiction. I was hooked from the first paragraph. If you love a good thriller, pick up "Blind Sight" and enjoy the ride!

Impressed by Blind Sight,

This book is very well written. It is hard to find a new author who has a handle on all aspects of the storyline all the way through to the end. It was fast paced, the character's back stories were told in a seamless way and the spiritual aspect was not forced in but weaved in. Looking forward to reading more by this author.
