How she made it thru Quantico...,
By Cleo "jernigan25" (Atlanta, Ga) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Blind Spot (Hardcover)
I'll never know. There are some aspects of this book I really like. And I hope that the author fleshes out her protagonists with the next in this series. I like Agent Bernadette and I really like most of the story behind her gift. But she doesn't seem to have a single, solitary investigative skill. She's an FBI Agent who doesn't seem to know or care about police procedure. Search warrant? We don't need no stinkin' search warrant! I found myself aggravated with her on more than one occasion. There's a glaring lack background and technical information and though the concept is fairly original, the subjects lack... ummph. I didn't feel them or feel for them. The only character I found truly interesting was Auggie, and I knew his angle before she did...

Maybe getting there?,
This review is from: Blind Spot (Paperback)
The writing is very uneven. Vast stretches are just plain dumb, yet there are moments that are fresh and sometimes genuinely funny. Christian religion is central throughout the story, so you might skip this one if that's bothersome for you. On balance, I liked this one enough to be willing to look at more from this author.

Turn a blind eye to this book,
This review is from: Blind Spot (Hardcover)
This extremely derivative book has only one new twist that I could see, and that isn't enough to justify the price of the book. The protagonist is neither emotionally nor physically attractive, and how the author expects us to believe that she is a trained FBI agent strains the imagination. There is one intriguing character - a ghost - and I'd prefer to read a book about him! Ostensibly a mystery, this novel has no secrets, and the reader knows a lot more than the psychic all through the story. However, I understand that this is the author's first book. I'd be willing to try her next - but only by borrowing it from a library.

FBI Agent Bernadette Saint Clare is a troubled woman striving to find her place in a world of skeptics. Her story is compelling, if not fully believable at times. This plot was interesting and a somewhat entertaining read, but I never found my heartbeat racing, cared for Bernadette enough to really worry, and, unfortunately, most of it was predictable. There were a couple instances in which surprised me, but only slightly. (I won't say which here because I don't wish to spoil the fun.) The story is entertaining and I would recommend reading it if you have time to spare, but don't expect to fall in love with the protagonist. For some odd reason, I found myself worrying more about her boss at one particular instant more than I did about Bernadette. Bernadette's upstairs neighbor is certainly an interesting character though and I found the story's antagonist to be most intriguing, his troubled past altering his future for the worst. Parts of this story reminded me of the Davinci Code for this very reason.

look past its flaws and you'll find a gem...,

Okay, so despite the reviews noted about procedural errors in this book about a psychic FBI agent, I read it anyway. I am so glad I did. It's an excellent tale not to be missed.
This book was not about the FBI. It was an intensely personal thriller about the visions and methods of an FBI agent who can see through a killer's eyes. Yes, there are some procedural errors, but then, it is also about a fairly implausible story line - a psychic crime fighter. This book took me on a satisfying journey. I'm glad I didn't miss it, I'm glad I looked beyond negative reviews and took a chance on this book. Suspend belief for one day or one weekend and immerse yourself in the life Bernadette Saint Clare and go on a hair-raising journey into the tortured mind of the agent and the tortured mind of a killer.

The start of a good series,

I enjoyed this book, it looks to be the start of a good series. It has some interesting characters, both living and ghostly. It's nice that the main character's power is imperfect, it's flawed, it isn't easy to use and can be dangerous. A couple of unique things about the story are how Saint Clare got her 'power' and that she can do a lot more than just see dead people. I look forward to the next book.

I LOVED this book. It has the best of both worlds; detective and psychic, fbi and ghosts....this book ROCKS! It is well written, fast, and combines two genres in the best possible way.

Will be reading the rest of her books,
This review is from: Blind Spot (Paperback)
Maybe the idea of seeing through the eyes of a murderer made me a little confused and queasy, but I loved the character of Bernadette--everything about her: her backstory, her succinct, dry, way of talking, her seen-it-all, almost ready to hang it up attitude, and those eyes! Yeah, that was a nice touch!
I wondered where we were heading with the FBI boss and the guy upstairs (his cute little dog, too!!)--I sure never saw what was coming there!!! I love that!! I really enjoyed getting into this story and am looking forward to reading the rest in this series--very happy I discovered this author!

The idea of a psychic and seeing through the eyes of a murderer has been done before, and the main murder mystery plot which Saint Claire was attempting to solve was predictable. The clues were often way too obvious, and therefore, Saint Claire seemed less than brilliant for not figuring things out a little more quickly. The author does need to work on plot subtlety and character development. However, there were enough twists thrown in and questions raised, especially towards the end of the book, to keep me intrigued. In fact,I am here at Amazon looking to see if the next book is available yet (which it is - its called Blind Rage.) The author leaves the reader with some cliff-hangers and the desire to solve the mysteries surrounding some of the key characters. For fans of psychic and crime mysteries, this is a decent book that has the potential to become a really great series.
