This CD, is a budget release, and features the 45 versions of Manfred Mann's Earth Band's Warner Brothers years. After getting the full length versions on several CD's, it's nice for an alternitive to get the 45 length versions, for us single collectors.

The other highlight , is finally getting the #40, 1977 version of "Spirit In The Night", with vocals by Chris Thompson. Every time I'd get a Manfred Mann compilation, it would be the Mick Rogers voaclled version from "Nightengales And Bombers", that hit #97.

For those who don't know, and are collecting the '70s top 40 hits on CD or MP3s, In 1975 Manfred Mann released "Nightengales And Bombers", on it was a Springsteen penned tune, "Spirit In The Night", the vocals were done by Mick Rogers, the song was rleased a s ashortened single and hit #97 in April 1976. In November of 1976, Manfred Mann released "The Roaring Silence", which yielded the #1, Springsteen penned tune, "Blinded By The Light". The lead vocals were now by Chris Thompson. When "Blinded" became such a huge smash, they decided to re-try "Spirit" again, this time adding vocals by Chris Thompson. They then added it to the "The Roaring Silnce" LP, with a new catalog #. This version reached the top 40 at #40 for one week. This hit version has been absent from CD, until this disk. CD copies of "The Roaring Silence" didn't have it, only the old cassette versions did.

I'm very happy that this was just what I was looking for!!

This is a travesty to a fine band. A few songs that are so badly recorded my dog ran for cover. Save your money and do NOT buy this piece of dog doo!!!! 'Nuff said!!

As mentioned in the subject, the price is great but thats about it. Some reasons for me saying so - the CD cud have had at least 5-6 more songs, cud hv had a better selection (more popolar songs of MM). Also, I found shortened versions of couple of the better songs!
