4.0 out of 5 stars pretty addictive : as usual with Jason Falkner !
As far as I'm concerned, pop music can't be better than this and a pop musician can't be more gifted than is this guy.No.Definitely.Like with every one of his previous CDs ( AUTHOR UNKNOWN and CAN YOU STILL FEEL ),you can hear it's top quality at the very first time you're listening to these songs but you'll have to wait ( at least, that's what happened with me )a little in...

3.0 out of 5 stars Is the lyric muse departing from JF?
After hearing his Author Unknown CD, I thought Jason Falkner was someone who could channel the music of the spheres. I was a little let down by Can You Still Feel, but there was plenty of good work there. After all this time, JF ekes out a five-song EP, and honestly I'm disappointed again.

I like The Neighbor and Feeling No Pain. Lost Myself revs itself up...

5.0 out of 5 stars Fans of intelligent, complex pop, ought to blah blah blah, January 10, 2005
This review is from: Bliss Descending (Audio CD)
Oh, has it been three years already since "Can You Still Feel"? It must be time for Falkner to get around to releasing a few more tunes. Only six this time, hmm, not too many. Hope it's not another three years before the next proper album.

This is definatley worth the six bucks or so used copies seem to be going for. It was quite hard to find when it came out on Not Lame late last year. These songs are neither better nor worse than the stuff we've come to expect from Falkner's solo stuff, though after a few listenings there's no song which seems obviously a lot better than the others, which is not to say there's anything less than wonderful on it. At this point, he seems to be able to toss this kind of greatness off with no real effort. Even though I gave it five stars, I actually prefer the songs he did on Brenden Benson's last album Lapalco (also now a couple of years old), where things seemed a little rougher and less fussy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wets the appetite ..., March 10, 2005

It's been awhile since we heard from Jason Falkner but I absolutely believe this is the best collection of songs to date. Every song is strong particularly standout tracks like "Feeling No Pain" and "They Put Her in the Movies". It's hard to make power pop this good ... when's the next release?

4.0 out of 5 stars his best, February 1, 2005
This review is from: Bliss Descending (Audio CD)
falkner has written some of the best "power pop" songs of the past decade, but never really put together a consistently great album (the 4-track recordings comes closest), which is why this EP format fits him best... 5 cuts, all perfect pop. hard to find, but well worth it.

Every song is that damn good. I just cant explain it. I love every song on here and its purely 22 minutes of honest bliss...

My favorite parts are the last 2 minutes of "They Put Her In The Movies", "Moving Up", "Feeling No Pain", and "Lost Myself".

Dont get me wrong, the neighbor is good, but damn, its like every song outdoes the one before it. I cant wait to see him do something live.

Jason, please continue to make this great music!

Thanks,

A.B.

This is another "must own" CD in anyone's collection. I have all of Jason's records and "Feeling No Pain" and "Moving Up" are some of his greatest moments.

Once again, Jason Falkner delivers an inspired, awesome recording. This rich, colorful EP may be the best he's record done yet. Every song shines and resonates with pop brilliance, soul, and creates a rock-pop melodic masterpiece. If you're looking for some tuneful guitar power-pop, look no further. The vocals, musicianship, production, songwriting, and lyrics are all compelling and long lasting. A true classic, this is a treasure. Falkner rocks!

5.0 out of 5 stars Genius. A true star. He deserves more plaudits, January 22, 2007
This review is from: Bliss Descending (Audio CD)
Jason Falkner, the former lead guitarist with Jellyfish, shocked me in a number of ways with his first solo album - the voice was richer and deeper than previously anticipated and also the songwriting was of the highest quality. "Author Unknown" and "Can You Still Feel?" are great albums.
"Bliss Descending EP" is no less so. Falkner doesn't disappoint. I am a fan of the power pop genre but have often been disappointed with the simplicity of some of the songs put out by artists who write power pop stuff. The three exceptions to this are Brendan Benson (his stuff is SUPERB), Eric Matthews and Jason Falkner. If I were to pick a favourite song out of this five, I would have to go for 'Lost Myself'. It contains one of those typical brilliant Falkner choruses that comes in by surprise.

Yeah, this man knows how to write good music. If you like your power pop more complex than the straight forward verse/chorus/verse, this is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Wish There Were More Songs!!!, October 9, 2005
This review is from: Bliss Descending (Audio CD)
Mr. Falkner could take as much time as he wants between releases as long as he gave us a big choice of songs to listen to! This is a great little EP though. I think these songs seem to fit in more with the "Author Unknown" catalog rather than the "Can You Still Feel" era. I'm crazy about every track on here except number 2 (They Put Her In The Movies), it fell just a bit shy of his usual brilliance, but hey, a mediocre Falkner track is still better than the average artist's best material. Check this one out for sure.

3.0 out of 5 stars Is the lyric muse departing from JF?, July 15, 2005

After hearing his Author Unknown CD, I thought Jason Falkner was someone who could channel the music of the spheres. I was a little let down by Can You Still Feel, but there was plenty of good work there. After all this time, JF ekes out a five-song EP, and honestly I'm disappointed again.

I like The Neighbor and Feeling No Pain. Lost Myself revs itself up nicely toward the end. I cannot fault any of this musically. The power pop punch JF mastered on previous albums is here, but I don't find much of the lyrical cleverness of Author Unknown here. They Put Her In the Movies and Moving Up seemed terribly simplistic to me. I am beginning to think Jason needs a collaborator to write words, leaving the musical composition to his classically trained brain.

Don't take my word for it. Here's one chorus:

"Cuz I want you
And everybody wants you too
What am I supposed
To do?"

An embarrassing rhyme. Here's another one:

"But I lost myself in yoo-oo.
Yes I lost myself in you
Oh I lost myself in you
Now I know what I should do."

OK, I'm rolling my eyes now. What are we, back in high school?

Plus, maybe he could write about something other than girls? I like girls too. But maybe get Al Stewart to write some historical lyrics Jason could set to music. NOW we're talking.

Every once in a while you have to buy a CD on faith. Why? Because it will probably convince you of the wisdom of hearing an album first, to see if it is worthwhile to purchase. This EP was another lesson for me.

You may love every second of Bliss Descending. I don't. Author Unknown reeks of greatness. Bliss Descending is several steps down from that: two hits and three duds.
