Why is this woman not more famous?, March 20, 2002
This review is from: Bliss (Audio CD)
This is a truly beautiful solo album from a woman who will most likely be remembered as one of Madonna's back-up singers. I'll admit, I bought this CD without hearing any of its tracks, mostly because I was curious of hearing Donna's music after years of watching her perform with Madonna. And I have never been more pleasantly suprised. This woman has one of the most interesting, flexible and lovely voices I have ever heard. It's powerful one moment, soft the next. Obviously trained, but without the 'showiness' of a Celine Dion. Just simple, wonderful and melodic. But the true strength of this album is the smart songwriting. No cliches to be found here- just honest, thoughtful songs about love, loss, family, and spirituality. And the lyrics are never forced into a melody. Everything fits smoothly and flows easily from verse to chorus. Hopefully Donna's day in the spotlight is soon to come, because the world doesn't know what they're missing. If you like Sarah Mclachlan, Tori Amos, Jewel, Shawn Colvin.. you will love Donna Delory's music.

A breath of fresh air...., August 3, 2002
This review is from: Bliss (Audio CD)
This is Donna's sophomore album, following her 1992 MCA debut which featured Just a Dream-written and produced by Madonna-and featuring Madonna on vocals. Donna steps out from that dance/pop album to an ethereal approach to her music, and it works, she is a great lyricist, and her cover of Amazing Grace really shows off the voice that she has. Originally released in 1999 under an independent label, Donna finally got a big label to release it in the States last year, but the copies sold out and now you'll have to look on her official website to obtain the album. Go Talk To Mary, Hold Me Now, On And On are the highlights on this album, a definite must for anyone who likes music that is laidback, not overproduced and has a point....

Deep and Personal, July 4, 2002
This review is from: Bliss (Audio CD)
A wonderful album that makes you very introspective. The lyrics pack a punch with incredibly unique arrangements through the confluence of classical instruments and native eastern instruments. I love all the songs on Donna Delory's album. The last song, "Amazing Grace" is a wonderful personal rendition of the religious standard, reaching deep into the heart and bringing out a renewal of self and soul. "On and On" lifts you into a higher plane with it's haunting melody and its message of love through all circumstances. True raw talent on this album: Not only is Donna talented in her lyric writing and her voice, her collaborator Cameron Stone is also superbly gifted with his mixture of classical and contemporary manipulation of the cello.
