This story is about a full-figured wedding divorced wedding planner who ends up a bar after going on a bad blind date that her best friend set up. She notices a great looking guy sitting down from her and there is a instant attraction. She has her first one night stand with him and they don't exchange names because even though it was the best night of her life, she doesn't expect to see him again. Fate intervenes and she ends up being the wedding planner for his brother's wedding. Then the drama begins because not only is he younger, he is white and from a very wealthy family. I won't give away the storyline so you will have to read it to find out about all the drama that takes place with this couple.

This book was a disappointment. Being a plus sized woman, I was excited to read a story where the big girl gets the man but it seriously was lacking in "story". The telling of day to day activities does not make a good story. I was completely annoyed by the number of times the author explained something, then in the character's voice we had to hear the same thing. There were several other conversations that seemed pointless to me. I just didn't get it. There was no real arch in the story. It seemed to me, the author realized that there was nothing being told so she filled it with a bunch of idle conversation. I don't actually have to read the conversation when introductions are being made. You can simply say, "She introduced everyone" (or something, jeez!) To say I was disappointed really is an understatement. The story had such potential. There could have been several issues but instead, the ONLY issue between the couple was whether or not they wanted children (which neither did but they refused to talk about it). Plus did i have to be reminded that she was full figured every chapter. Or when she met someone she had to repeat it several times as well. Reading this, its very hard to believe that its her 2nd book and that her 1st was received so well. I gave this 2 stars b/c at least she tried to write about BBW!!

I was very disappointed with Bliss Inc. The story had so much potential that was just wasted. I like the ideal that the herione Paige was beautiful and successful black woman that happened to be a plus size. However, I felt like I was reading a story that could have been and should have been summed up in a hundred pages but was scretched over to cover 400 plus pages. And I really didn't want to read about every single painful detail of planning a wedding. The characters had lots and lots of pointless conversation usually about how "beautiful and brilliant Paige is because she solved yet another manufactured incident that highligts just how "beautiful and brilliant" Paige is. All the characters are very one demensional. The love scenes are very boring. The author uses phrases like she shared her secert place with him and then he shared his secret place with her. A love scene doesn't have to be explicit but I would like to read some kind of emotion (tenderness and/ or passion) between the h/h.

Missing the passion.............,

I don't know how to describe my feelings on this book, except to say it is missing something. Bliss did not live up to my expectations. I LOVED Not his type. I have re-read it, I loved it so much. But Bliss was not what I expected. The characters were a bit unbelieveable and as someone said previous, too perfect. I didn't feel any of the passion between Paige and Matthew that I felt with Marcus and Cathy. I know different books and characters, but there should be some passion there. I hope the authors third book will reflect more of the first book. I just think with Bliss, she missed the mark!

What About Love?,

An anonymous one-night stand is how Paige Baldwin and Matthew Smythe initially met, but another chance encounter a few days later starts them on the path to love. In the midst of planning a high-society wedding, Paige discovers that the co-star in her secret indescretion is none other than the groom's brother. Once they come face-to-face again, their tenuous romance begins, despite obvious disapproval from the people around them. Together, Paige and Matthew stand strong against those who don't like to see black and white meet in the middle.
In BLISS, INC., Chamein Canton gives readers a glimpse into the ins and outs of wedding planning. Bliss, Inc. owner and miracle worker, Paige, gracefully handles one catastrophe after another, and still manages to keep her cool. This book is aptly named, in that I felt I spent a little too much time with Paige and her clients, as well as with several secondary characters, and not enough time with Paige and Matthew, as a couple. As a result, I wasn't as engaged as I would've liked to be. Still, the characters were likeable and I appreciated Canton's focus on voluptuous women as sexy, vibrant and desirable human beings. too mild,

This review is from: Bliss, Inc. (Indigo Love Spectrum) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book was an okay read, I found it too sugary, she was too perfect, the book lacked grit. The actual outline of the story leads the reader to believe that this is a rauchy book, however, it lacked spice, the love scenes were too mild. After reading it I felt I knew alot about wedding planning etc, however, was it a love story or a book on planning weddings?
That's the question you have to ask yourself after reading it.

Bliss, Inc. by Chamein Canton
I completed this book in one sitting. It was about 480 pages, and is the first book I've read from this author. If you want to learn about wedding planners you will definitely need to read this book. The character of Paige was that by profession, she went to undergrad at Harvard, and Harvard Law School, and went on an academic scholarship. She was on the tennis team and was a legend in her own time. Paige is full-figured with no issues at all about her size, conservative by nature she steps out of her box one evening and has a romantic interlude with Mathew, blue blood history teacher who lives and works in Harlem. The one night of bliss turns into more when Paige is hired as his brother's fiancée wedding planner and the story begins. It is more of a old fashioned romance, with lots of family moments, and no explicit love scenes everything is tastefully written. The crux of the story for me was whether or not the issue of children was going to be a bone of contention. Paige a successful woman in her own right has found the perfect job that feeds her passion planning weddings, and has a son off to Cornell she's done it all. Now divorced and dating a much younger man (nine years)...truly the year of older women and younger men they face the usual obstacles of class and somewhat racism, which they discuss openly but it isn't the main issue. Though Paige seemed to base her decision on having children in two parts, one she didn't want anymore and I think she was open to the idea somewhat for Mathews sake, --- I think I would of liked it if they had discussed this matter before they moved forward to the next level, then again the angst of it would be gone. I liked Mathew he was essentially his own man, and he adored Paige and very sweet as you watched him fall deeply in love, but I did have a hard time getting started with the story, but I stuck with it because the secondary characters were interesting. As for Paige and Mathew I'm glad they got to a point in the story where they were honest with each other about their future, but for some reason I felt like Ms. T as if a certain something was missing. On the other hand it was well edited, and I could had some soft moments when Paige sent her son Max off to college, and she and her ex-husband Joshua really had a good and healthy relationship, and the drama came mostly from the `Country Club Set' against Paige because she was black and took the crème of the crème in bachelors and Jennifer who took his brother and she was Jewish. I'd say it was a nice contemporary romance, with a full-figured heroine who had it all going on. She knew her business, was a fantastic mother, friend, and sister and had no underlying issues with her self or her self-worth. Mathew was handsome and well drawn...I guess it was a case of meeting the right person at the right time, and age became just a number. One thing that stood out and was made clear, Paige was perfect at her job, and she utilized her resources well, and as she moved up she took her eclectic group of friends/associates with her........that I liked also...

This is wonderful book it is the story of a 42 years old woman who has been divorce for a while, although Paige has not given up on dating she has not been really looking. Her best friend set her up on a date which ended badly. Paige decide to stop at the bar in the restaurant to have a drink along she puts on this glasses hoping that will turn the men off, but in walk in Matthew how is coming from a party who in turn just wants to get away. Across the room Matthew & Paige see each other. Matthew goes over and start to talk to Paige and the next thing you know that are in his room. The fact that neither Matthew or Paige thought they would ever see each other again because this was a one night stand, but low a behold Paige is pick to be the Wedding Planner for Michael & Jennifer wedding.
Paige is 43 years old, full figure and a very confident woman this book will have your cheering, laughing & crying. There is a lot of elements going on in this book and it is woman. I related to this book on so many level. Ms. Canton has done a great job. Ms. Canton if you read this please send me your email address. Louise

Thoroughly disappointing,

Although the title of the book is the name of her wedding business, this book has one focus: Bliss, Inc. The characters are secondary, the story was lackluster, and it was a less than blissful ending. There are two good points about this book:
1. I like the idea of a full figured character 2. It sheds light on interracial relationships. Other than that, this was a long, boring read.

Finding Bliss,
This review is from: Bliss, Inc. (Indigo Love Spectrum) (Mass Market Paperback)
We have Black 40 something Paige that has a one night stand with white 30 something Matthew. They then meet again when Paige is planning his brothers high society wedding.
The book was a pretty good read. The novel flowed extremely well that I did not know that it was over 400 pages. The love between Matt and Paige was so adorable and HOT at some times. I just wished that it touched more on weight and race issues that were clearly there in the high society she was thrust into. But overall, it was a good read. |
