The Ouch Factor,
This review is from: Bliss-Philips Bikini Perfect Deluxe HP6378 Spa-At-Home Grooming System (Health and Beauty)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Years ago, I read a French feminist writer who asked: "Why aren't women allowed to keep their natural body hair, as men are?" Now, after many years of shaving, plucking, using depilatories, etc., I wonder if maybe our (slightly) hairy French sisters know something we don't.
But I digress. I tried out (with some trepidation) the various attachments on this grooming system yesterday. (I strongly encourage anyone who is using it to CAREFULLY FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE.) Here's what I found: --The unit takes almost the full ten hours (stated in the instructions) to charge. Once charged, you have the option of cordless grooming. --The eyebrow trimmer gives a nice, neat trim. Truthfully, my brows are sort of well-shaped and tame to begin with, but for those with unruly brows, this might be just what's needed for a neater look. --The micro trimmer does a nice job with that peach-fuzzy stuff between the eyebrows, and can also be used to contour the brows. (Be CAREFUL! It removes EVERY hair it touches.) --The micro shaver cleanly removes stubble along the bikini line, and it's painless. --The epilator. Ouch. Ladies, this hurts, period. The instructions say you'll experience "discomfort" that will "lessen with subsequent uses." (I doubt it.) The ouch factor of the epilator kept me from giving this appliance 5 stars. That, and the fact that though I'm well groomed, I'm not so compulsive about hair-removal that I'd use all the attachments. For example, I didn't use the precision comb to "style" the bikini line. As in (from the instructions) a "template in a heart-shape." However, for those who are into this kind of personal style, you have the tool you need with this device. The final item included with this system is Bliss body butter. This smelled good, was non-greasy, and left a smooth finish to the skin. So that's how it worked for me, ladies. Bikini season is almost here, so if you're looking for a good four-star hair removal system, I think this is it. If you don't mind a considerable ouch factor, then you've got a five-star product.

Philips has come up with a nice all in one product. It has a precision trimmer head, a micro trimmer, a mini shaver and a mini epilator.
However, I think that the only tool I will use the most is the precision trimmer head which is why the product gets 3 stars for price-value factor. It had a comb like attachment that fits over it and gives you 5 lengths of hair to choose from. However, its hard to actually trim the hair neatly to precisely the same length using the comb attachment. Although the shaver is very ergonomic in shape, it still does a job no better than my older battery operated Panasonic ES246AC Bikini Shaper and Trimmer. I also prefer the convenience of batteries when traveling, as it is small and compact and does not need a charger. The smaller length of the Panasonic trimmer makes it easier for me to control while using it in the bikini area. I found the micro trimmer for eyebrows to be only moderately useful as I have very light eyebrows and can use a mini-scissor with more precision. I couldn't find the comb attachment for this trimmer in my box and ended up taking off more eyebrow than I wanted to, so read the instructions more carefully. As for the epilator, it's the older design of epilator that has rotating metal discs that pinch or tweeze out individual hairs by the roots. It's too painful for facial or bikini hair and too tiny to use on your legs and arms as you'll take forever with a lot more pain. My Braun 5270 Silk-épil X'elle Body System Epilator has a different design and is far less painful than this epilator. This one is good for use on a few stray hairs here and there. Again if you're removing facial hair, tweezers will do the job more precisely for 1-2 hairs and facial waxing strips like are far more efficient and painless for any other facial hair removal. The shaver head did not get all the hair but is ok if you need to get into "tighter" spots. I don't expect to use this attachment too much, when I need a closer shave the precision trimmer without the comb attachment works better for me. Overall, the Bliss Philips Bikini System has many attachments but if you are basically looking for only a bikini trimmer you may want to spend less and go with Panasonic ES246AC Bikini Shaper and Trimmer or Remington BKT-1000 Trim & Shape Bikini Trimmer.

Good at trimming, not shaving,

Every woman I know wants an easier way to keep her bikini area trimmed and/or shaved. When I saw the new Bikini Perfect Deluxe by Bliss-Philips, I had to give it a try.
I am very pleased with the fact that this device is cordless and rechargeable. The first charge takes some time to complete, so don't expect to use this the same day or night that you bring it home. You'll need to let it charge uninterrupted for at least ten hours, according to the directions, but no more than 24 hours. Once charged, I settled down to use my Grooming System. I had hoped that perhaps the eyebrow attachment would be handy for shaping my eyebrows, so I could forgo continued plucking via tweezers. Alas, that was not to be. While the unit does boast an eyebrow attachment, it apparently is for trimming eyebrows, not for shaping them. No problem, my main purpose for wanting this device was for the bikini area, so that was disappointing, but not a deal breaker for me. Then I began to do a little landscaping in the bikini area. The trimmer attachments are great - they work very well to clip the hair at an even length, with little risk of accidentally cutting oneself (although I still advise caution when using in sensitive areas). This is something I've always used a pair of small hair-cutting scissors for, which is a much scarier procedure since it is hard to see that area when trimming oneself. To have a device that measures a distance from the skin as it cuts is very reassuring. Next I attached the micro shaver and began to shave the areas that need shaving. This is where I am majorly disappointed. Although my hair is soft and fine, the micro shaver did not handle shaving well at all. I finally gave up, determining that simply shaving manually with a razor is much easier than using the micro shaver for the Bikini Perfect Deluxe system. I will continue to use this gadget for trimming, but not for shaving. Do I recommend it? Difficult question. If all you want out of this device is to trim, then you may want it. If, however, you were relying on it for actual shaving of the pubic area, you will want to pass this one over.

When I started looking for a product to tame the bikini area I was really torn between this one and the Braun 5270 Silk-épil X'elle Body System Epilator. The Braun got slightly better reviews so I went for it. HUGE MISTAKE. First of all, it is awful for the bikini area. I lost skin and hair. Talk about pain! That item was returned ASAP. I personally bought this for the epilator feature. I am tired of the cost of waxing and the nair stuff just doesn't work all that well (for the record, I am a female and I like it ALL GONE). So, the trimmer/shaver is ok. Doesn't work all that great in the shower. The microtrimmer didn't work at all for me. The epiating feature is great though, much less pain than the braun. Does it hurt - yes, I mean, let's face it. You are ripping hair out by the root. If you have a low threshold for pain, then you need to start off slow. If you are used to the pain of waxing - I don't think you will find it is much more than what you had gotten using that process. The best tip I have is to do it after you bathe. I make the mistake of not doing that and did have some minor discomfort (like a sunburn) for a day or so.

Is the Bliss-Philips bikini perfect deluxe, really bliss?,

This review is from: Bliss-Philips Bikini Perfect Deluxe HP6378 Spa-At-Home Grooming System (Health and Beauty)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I was quite excited to finally get a multi-purpose grooming tool for women. After all, most of the electric groomers out their are aimed toward men. What a nice change. Once I got the item I couldn't wait to try it. Well most of it, anyway. The looks of the epilator scared me. After spending about 5 minutes getting the packaging open I took it all out, gave it a good once over, and plugged it in to charge. That was when I had a problem with the item. For some reason the plug just would not stay in the groomer. There is only one way to put the plug into this item, and it just kept falling out. I finally was able to get it to stay after about a 20 minute fight with it, but I had to make sure it was where it would not get bumped since the cord would have fallen out yet again.
After the 10 hour charge time I decided to give it a try in the shower, to see if it would really hold up to the water. To my surprise it did. I tried the precision trimmer with the precision comb attachment first and I was pleasantly surprised with the results. It was so much easier than the razors that I am accustomed to. Plus, no nicks or cuts, which was great. Then I decided to use the micro shaver which was a little disappointing. If you are going to use this attachment I would recommend that the precision trimmer is used with no comb attached to it. The shaver just does not work very well if the hairs are too long, even if the comb was set to the lowest setting. Because of my apprehensiveness about the epilator I decided to use it on my legs instead of a more tender area, and came to find out it was a good choice to have tried on my legs since I found it to be quite painful. For women who are accustomed to waxing I am sure it would be no problem, but for me it was more then a little discomfort. I don't think I will be using that attachment again. The eyebrow comb and the micro trimmer work great. It was so nice to get my eyebrows just how I wanted them without the pain of plucking out hair by hair. Just make sure you have a steady hand when using the micro trimmer. The lemon/sage body butter smelled wonderful and was a great moisturizer. I would definitely be willing to buy more of that. I had to skip on the ingrown hair eliminating pad since it does have alpha and glycolic acid in it, which is a big no no for sensitive skin. Overall, I would say the Bliss/Philips Bikini Perfect Deluxe is a solid product, but just a little overpriced for my liking.

Surprisingly Effective,

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I have to admit I was a bit skeptical about the effectiveness of this system, as the last electric shaver I had gave less than a close shave. OK, so it was 35 years ago.
I have really sensitive skin and shaving the upper leg/bikini area always leaves me with razor burn. I tried waxing at a few spas and I wound up with red bumps that lasted as long and looked as bad as the razor burn. I was afraid to hope this might be a solution. The device comes with various razor heads and combs and can apparently also be used for eyebrows (would someone buy one for Donald Trump and Andy Rooney, please?). Also included is a nice, cloth bag for storage or travel. With the number of attachments and razor heads, good illustrations and instructions matching the quality of the product itself would provide a polished presentation. Unfortunately, the instructions were printed on a huge piece of low grade paper that folded up somewhat similar to a map. If that wasn't bad enough, the pictures of the various parts were very small and labeled A-Z, which meant you had to check the list to see what A, B, C, etc. was. You then had to access a different section of the instructions to see how to use each. I think it would have been a lot easier to use the product for the first time had the instructions been better organized and if larger pictures had accompanied the text. For an overall better presentation, a nice booklet on glossy paper would have been more consistent with the nice quality and appearance of the product. That said, I wouldn't let that prevent you from purchasing this well made product. Just plan to spend a little bit of time getting through the instructions for your first use. Once you get past that hurdle, I think you'll be pleased with the results. The precision trimmer did a fantastic job, leaving no razor burn and providing a close shave. The precision trimmer alone would be worth the purchase of this product. The device is somewhat small and fits nicely in your hand, making it easy to use and is cute. I can't yet give a testimonial of the eyebrow trimmer, as I've had electrolysis on them - and I have to get my courage up for the epilator and don't want to use it on any areas that will be visible during these summer months, as I tend toward extreme reactions. I'll update this when I've used either or both. All in all, I think this is a very nice product that has good results and I recommend it.

Bliss-ful Grooming System!,

This review is from: Bliss-Philips Bikini Perfect Deluxe HP6378 Spa-At-Home Grooming System (Health and Beauty)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I normally don't review these types of personal products, but I received this in advance for the specific purpose of reviewing. I'm so glad I did, though, because I love this product! It's a versatile system and can be used for legs, eyebrows and just about anywhere you would want to use this-- in addition to the bikini area.
This is rechargeable and runs for quite a while before needing recharging. The ONLY drawback I've found with this is that as soon as it's plugged in, the light is green. And, when it is done charging, the light is still green. You cannot tell if it's fully charged or not, and the directions state to charge it fully. However, even though this isn't ideal, I don't think it's a huge drawback, since it probably only takes a few hours at most to fully charge. Now, to the product itself! This comes with several different attachments. One is a full-size shaver. You can use this alone or add the comb attachment over this. If you use the comb attachment over this, you have five length adjustment choices. There is also a micro shaver which you can also use alone or add a comb attachment. This comb attachment has 3 length adjustments. There is a micro trimmer for very difficult spots. And, there is an epilator attachment which pulls the hair out from the root. In the past, these types of epilators were painful, because they grabbed several hairs at a time. This one isn't too bad, though, as long as you hold your skin taught. To be sure, I didn't use this one in an area that I thought might be painful, though-- I was too much of a p_____(excuse the pun). Still, I tried this on my lower legs. I had just shaved a day or two prior, so the hair was too short to catch with each pass-- but when the hairs did catch, it pulled them right out without any discomfort at all. The shavers and combs worked fantastically. Very quick and easy. You are really done in no time at all-- within just a few minutes, you're as bare as you choose! Ready to try everything, I used the eyebrow comb and trimmed my brows to a uniform length. Very fast. It was so fun, in fact, that I was sorry that I had no more hair to do-- I thought of enlisting my husband and use the Bliss-Philips Bikini Perfect Deluxe Spa At Home Grooming System on him, but I decided talking him into it wouldn't be worth the effort. Plus, I like his hair. So, I do think this is a five-star product. Mine came fully charged, with a small drawstring bag, and with some sample products.

Half the Attachments Work, but Probably Not the Most Useful Half.,

This review is from: Bliss-Philips Bikini Perfect Deluxe HP6378 Spa-At-Home Grooming System (Health and Beauty)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Bliss, the spa people, and Philips, the electric grooming gadget people, have teamed up to create this Bikini Perfect Deluxe Spa-at-Home grooming system that should, theoretically, meet the needs of just about any woman, no matter what her taste in bikini coiffure. There are a lot of options. The groomer has 6 attachments: a precision trimmer, a micro shaver, a micro trimmer, an epilator, and two combs, one for bikini area and one for eyebrows, that fit over the trimmers, allowing you to trim hair to a uniform length. The apparatus is rechargeable using the included adapter and cord. Ten hours of charge gets you 35 minutes of use, but no batteries required. With an attachment on it, the groomer is about 6 ¼ inches (16 cm) long and 1 ½ inches (4 cm) wide, with a comfortable grip.
I don't normally shave. I wax. I was hoping that this grooming system would provide a convenient way to touch up between waxes and an easy method for cropping hair to the desired length. The precision trimmer is for shaping the bikini line. It trims hair very short but not flush with skin. You're supposed to clean up the stubble with the micro shaver, which has a foil, like a tiny electronic razor. Unfortunately, the precision trimmer works very poorly. It catches only a minority of hairs, so I had to go back over the area umpteen times and never did get most hairs. The micro trimmer is even worse. It does nothing for stubble at all. You'll have to break out a conventional razor to finish the job. I was concerned that these implements might irritate my sensitive skin, but they don't do much of anything. The trimmer does work when coupled with the precision comb, however. This is a clear plastic piece that fits over the precision trimmer and can be set to 5 positions for the desired length of hair. Each position trims a little longer than the instructions say, so play around with it to find the length you want. It doesn't catch every hair, but does get most of them. You may have to go over an area more than once. This works fine for cropping pubic hair, and, although I didn't find it easier than using scissors, it may be safer. It's impossible to catch your flesh in the trimmer with the comb attached. To my surprise, the microtrimmer, which is intended for shaping eyebrows, works efficiently. It whacks off every hair with which it comes in contact, so don't mess around with it while you're in a morning stupor. You could lose an eyebrow. Since it was working so well, I decided to try it on my bikini area, where the larger precision trimmer had failed so spectacularly. Bad idea. It pinches when used on the bikini area. There is an eyebrow comb attachment for the microtrimmer, which is supposed to trim your eyebrow hairs to a uniform length of your choosing. I didn't try this, as I like the natural length of my eyebrows just fine. There is also an epilator attachment. This is one of those things that spins round and round and plucks hairs from their follicles. I am very comfortable with waxing, but I won't go near an epilator. I hadn't tried one since the early days of epilators, when I found them painful and inefficient. This epilator is less painful and more efficient that the old models that I remember. It's not horrible. But you still have to go over the area multiple times to remove all the hairs, and it doesn't work as well on coarse pubic hair as on other parts of the body. I can't compare it to other epilators since I haven't used the latest models, but I can't recommend epilators in general. The groomer with all its attachments is supposed to be suitable for use in the shower. I didn't use it in the shower, as I'd rather have better light to see by when taking sharp instruments to my body parts. So I just held it under the shower. Nothing bad happened to the groomer, but I nearly dropped it a couple of times. Philips needs to put some grippers on it if they seriously intend this thing to be used in the shower. The instructions are on an enormous fold-out of flimsy pulp paper that would disintegrate if wet, with illustrations no where near the description that they illustrate. Bliss or Philips should have made a slick instruction booklet with a page dedicated to each attachment, including illustrations. The fold-out is a nuisance, and it's difficult to find the information that I'm looking for. The groomer comes with an aqua-colored bag to house it and all its parts, a small 1 fl oz tube of Bliss Lemon-Sage Body Butter, and one sample of Ingrown Hair Eliminating Peeling Pads. The Body Butter is a moderately heavy moisturizer, and Lemon-Sage is one of Bliss' nicest scents. The groomer has a 2-year warranty on materials and workmanship.

Having plenty of dark coarse hair, I feel I have tried every hair removal method (bar laser) available. Last Spring, I became a waxing addict - it was the best thing for me yet. The only problem is the bothersome little stubble that comes up between waxings. It's not enough to wax and shaving it messes up the whole process. I've had other "groomers" that were great for just that - trimming and "neatening" up a bit, but none of those provided a close shave. I actually didn't not hold out much hope on this one, but ordered it anyway thinking I had nothing to lose. How very pleased I am that I made that choice. I love it and unlike many of the reviewers, I've already used every attachment. I love that the eyebrow groomer is separate from the bikini area groomer (unlike some past kits). The main piece provides an unbelievably close shave and the mini shaver gets anything that might be left behind. I can see how the depilator might hurt some, but being a waxer, it wasn't really that different (somewhat mental really). It stung a bit more in the tender, hard to reach spots, but the results were so worth it (and not being cut/nicked - all the better). It's also great on the legs. This Bliss-Philips bikini perfect deluxe is the best I've found.

To be honest, I'm not very hairy, not really anywhere - but bikini-wise, yep, I could use a little help esp. now that summer draws nigh. Cleaning up my bikini area has always been a dicey proposition at best (like it hurts, it itches, etc., etc.)
It really was just easier to get a more conservative bathing suit than to remove the excess follicles in the nether area. The Bliss-Philips Bikini Perfect has a ton of extra implements to remove hair just about everywhere (kind of like one would have done at a spa, and that's no coincidence.) My issue is that since I'm not too hairy, most of those add-ons are just a waste. But I figured it couldn't hurt to try the bikini-perfect device. If it didn't work, well, I still had enough time to regrow what was removed (and I still have the conservative bathing suit!) Well, surprisingly, I got a very smooth shave with no razor burn, no itching, and no stubble. Maybe I'm not the best test case because I'm not very hirsute, but then I am very prone to bad side effects of bikini hair removal. For the first time since I started "neatening" up that area, I suffered absolutely no problems. Just smooth, soft skin, and no pain. That's an excellent result. If you're hairier than me - which would pretty much be everybody - you'll love this device. You'll also get a lot of use out of the eyebrow hair remover, the trimmer, etc. I'd just lay off the epilator, bikini-wise or eyebrow-wise. That is more pain than anyone wants to suffer for the sake of hairlessness! |
