I heard about this product from a magazine and wanted to try it. I bought it and had it for sometime before trying it as I have had little success with other products. Boy was I amazed when I first tried it as it was easy to use and worked great! I love that it comes with a skin cleaner and oil to use before and after waxing. The only difficulty we (my sister and I) had was we tried using it on our lip and eyebrows while sitting in a chair - it wax had a tendency to drip. The second time we used it we laid down on the sofa and it was much easier to use. This was simple, easy to use, cost effective and worked well.

I have used Poetic waxing for many years in their original "melt in double boiler method." Now they have finally come up with a faster microwave way of melting the wax and it is just as fabulous as the original but softens in about 1 minute. I have sensitive skin and find this product extremely gentle. I can wax, put on the post wax lotion and leave the house without irritation, and the slight redness disappears within minutes. There's a slight learning curve in using the wax, getting to the right consistency and not having it drip getting it from the cup to your face but once you get it---you'll never use another product again! I use it on eyebrows, upper lip, and unfortunately on those stray hairs on my neck. Try this...you'll love it!

After much hesitation, I tried this product and boy, am I glad I did. Having had no success whatsoever with sugaring, other waxing products in the past, other than extremely painful sugar/wax removals, I finally screwed up my courage and ordered it. I just tried it this past weekend on a leg and tiny hairs at the side of the mouth. After carefully reading the instructions and adhering strictly to them, this was no more painful to me than having your eyebrows tweezed. It is going to be somewhat time consuming as to be expected vs a salon treatment but my heavens, the difference in price and the luxury of doing this whenever you decide is fantastic. I too had a bit of a 'dribble effect' on my face, but I did not use the tiny spatula and did not twist the wax long enough to eliminate 'running down my face." I know I will learn how to do this extremely well, love that I can reuse and reuse the wax (it is up to you in that regard - depending on where you are waxing and whether you want that re-heated hairy wax on you, so to speak). Also be advised that I may be heating the wax too long even tho it was not remotely too hot on my skin, as I tended the get wax strings (like dribble strings at the dentist - gross but true) and tiny little blobs on me or the sink from the cup to the area being waxed. Will work on this every time I use and hopefully get much better at this (strings and blobs), however, I just scraped or peeled up the blobs and put them right back in the cup so no wastage in that regard. Unless you are extremely pain sensitive, I think you will like this. Just remember to follow the instructions, pull the skin as taut as possible before peeling the wax off (in the opposite direction of hair growth) and be patient.

Great product!!I first had this used on me in a salon but it seemed so easy to use, I just bought it to do myself.
I love it!! The only thing that I could complain about is, if the wax gets on the sides of the cup above the wax it's really hard to get it off. You have to keep reheating it to get it loose so the wax in the bottom gets really hot so I recommend doing this once you are done waxing.

Love the new microwave prep vs. a double boiler on the stove. Product was on-time and in good shape, service was good - no problems

Not for me,
This review is from: Bliss - Poetic Waxing At-Home Hair Removal Kit (Misc.)
I'm an experienced waxer, but this 'hard' wax was new for me. I didn't like it. I feel that you have to use way too much product to get the consistency correct so that you can then pull it off.
I much prefer the 'soft' wax that you have to use cloth strips to remove. For $45 you really don't get a lot of wax. This wax is pretty - shiny blue. That makes it easy to see the tiny spots you may have missed. It heated up exactly like the instructions said it would in my microwave. But, I returned this to Sephora (which has an excellent return policy!!) after my attempt. It's just not for me. Instead, I got the 'Satin Smooth' electric wax heater and I LOVE that.

I usually pay $25 here in Alaska for waxing my eyebrows and lip. This is a great product that is easy to use and does a great job. Highly recommend it.

messy & not a solo job,

I get my brows waxed on a regular basis, and turned to this kit as a time-saver. Unfortunately, despite several attempts, I found this kit to be messy and not very effective. The sugar paste/syrup that is the wax substitute is difficult to apply with precision. You need just the right amount - too little, and the hairs will not come out. Too much, and the syrup smears everywhere and the hairs still do not come out. Even if the right amount is applied, quite a few stragglers are left behind, so the overall effect is not as clean as I'd like. It is ok in an emergency - but despite positive reviews I would not strongly recommend this. I think I'll go back to tweezing as a quick fix. The soothing balm that comes with this kit works pretty well, though - I use it after having my brows waxed.

New Microwave Kit is Poorly Designed and Not Worth the Money,

I terribly miss the old Poetic Waxing kit that came in a metal mug. Yes, it took longer to warm on the stove. Yes, I needed a dedicated saucepan that I used only to warm my wax, since wax got on the saucepan and was hard/impossible to clean. HOWEVER, I feel the microwave kit takes extra time too, and takes more attention/effort in the warming period, and results in waste of wax, and, as others have mentioned is smaller so is even MORE expensive per use than the original, which is sort of amazing given how much these have always cost.In the microwave cup, the wax melts inconsistently and so I need to microwave, try to stir half-melted-half-hard wax, again microwave, again try to stir half-melted-half-hard wax, repeat six or seven times total. Also, I DISLIKE microwaving plastic. Yes, all sorts of industries tell us that microwaving plastic is safe. Girl, please. But my main beef with the microwave kit is that in the actual process of waxing, as I dip the applicator into the wax and the scrape the excess off before applying it to my hairy person, most of the wax transfers to the inside walls of the microwave cup and hardens there. So that the next time I get out the wax kit, I have somehow scrape or chip the wax off the sides and into the bottom. I find that I can't get it all off, and it doesn't melt down, and so that's wax that gets wasted. And yes, as other comments have mentioned, the whole kit seems smaller and even MORE expensive. Every time I've used the microwave version of the kit, I felt insulted. It's poor design, and for the high price, I expect better. One thing that remains excellent about the kit: the wax itself. It takes hair off. I've tried the inexpensive Parissa kit, and the wax in that kit is very ineffective compared to the Bliss wax. (On a related note, there's a vendor here on Amazon who sells dead stock of the original waxing kit. I don't recommend that you buy one of those. They are six years old and for some reason, the wax doesn't perform like the Poetic wax we love. Perhaps this is due to the age of the kits, or perhaps the kits are defective, which is how the seller got a hold of the kits in the first place.) Here's the silver lining! By brutally discontinuing my favorite waxing kit that I faithfully bought for years, Bliss has ultimately done me a favor. I'm now setting out to recreate the Original Poetic Waxing Kit experience on my own. I'm going to buy a wide, deep, and inexpensive enamel cup. I already have a set of 100 Gigi wooden applicators (way cheap here on Amazon, and in a wider range of useful sizes than is provided in the Bliss kit). And I WILL find a nice blue wax that performs as well as the Poetic Waxing wax. I'm going to try Starpil blue wax cubes (also available here on Amazon). If I can get it to work well, I will save so much money. Hmph. So there. |
