Sacred Service-Great Recording, July 6, 2010

I first heard this work performed by the NY Philharmonic over the radio in 1960 when the NY Philharmonic concerts were broadcast live. I was blown away, and then got it in LP, which I played to destruction, and finally this CD. The performances are first-rate and still move me almost 50 years later. If you have any interest, you can't go wrong. The other works with this are OK, but not my cup of tea.

Memorable music performed by first-rate musicians and orchestra, November 2, 2007

The impact upon hearing the Ernest Bloch Scred Service over 25 years ago has never left me and I had to search long and hard to get this CD. You don't need a drop of Jewish blood to recognize this as soul-stirring, second to none listening experience. The universal magic of music....Leonard Bernstein, the NY Philharmonic and Robert Merrill will stir you and leave an indelible impression.
Wish I could be as enthused about the Lukas Foss... not my cup of tea.
