This review is from: Blod (Audio CD)
Im 2003 Pantokrator released their fullength-album Blod at Bobfest. It containes ten songs of brutal and progressive metal with lots of scandinavian beauty. This progressive/meliodic deathmetal band has absolutely blown me away. Playing time: 51:0601 - Eden 5/5 Pantokrator hails from Sweden with a blend of melodic/doom based death metal. Some have said that they resemble In Flames and Candlemass, but that's unfair considering Pantokrator is better than those 2 bands. The guitars are very thick sounding on this album contributing to a doom feel on some of the tracks. A good example of that slow meaty sound would be "Forbannad Mark" which means Accursed Ground in English. The majority of the songs start of slow and increase in speed as they progress. One thing that really comes to mind when I listen to this album is that Pantokrator has far exceeded bands like Immortal Souls who play a similar style. Coupled with the strong musical ability that Pantokrator possesses comes some outstanding vocals as well. They also share the same lable that Blackmetal masters Crimson Moonlight lives. Pantokrator is one of, if not the best CD of 2003. I strongly recomend purchasing this CD, and while you're here check out Crimson Moonlight and Extol. |
